While the specific details of the environment surrounding Camp Shabbona Woods aren't extensively described, the positive reviews offer some insights. One reviewer mentioned enjoying hikes, suggesting the presence of trails or natural areas suitable for walking and exploring. Another reviewer described the "park as a whole" as "pretty," indicating that the campground is likely situated within or near a larger park or natural setting, offering scenic beauty and opportunities to connect with nature. The mention of fishing "across the way" implies proximity to a body of water, which could be a lake or river, providing an additional recreational activity for campers.
In terms of services, the reviews provide some valuable information. One family who rented all the cabins had a "blast," indicating that cabin rentals are likely an available accommodation option at Camp Shabbona Woods. This caters to those who prefer a more structured shelter compared to traditional tent camping. The second reviewer, who utilized a tent site, mentioned that the "bathrooms are well maintained," which is a significant positive aspect for any camper, highlighting the campground's attention to hygiene and comfort. The same reviewer also noted that the "staff was helpful," suggesting a positive and supportive service orientation at Camp Shabbona Woods.
The features of Camp Shabbona Woods, gleaned from the customer experiences, point towards a family-friendly and activity-oriented campground. The family celebrating the 4th of July weekend enjoyed a range of activities, including watching movies on a big screen projector, enjoying campfires with s'mores, going on hikes, and fishing nearby. This suggests that the campground might offer or allow for various forms of entertainment and recreation. The availability of cabins is itself a significant feature, providing a different type of camping experience. While not explicitly stated, it's reasonable to assume the presence of campsites suitable for tents, as mentioned by one reviewer. Basic amenities such as campfire areas are also implied by the s'mores activity. The proximity to a fishing location is another notable feature for those who enjoy angling.
It's important to address a point raised by one reviewer regarding the pricing for tent sites for non-county residents arriving by bicycle. They felt that the $49 fee was high for a tent site without a vehicle. This feedback suggests that pricing might vary based on residency and mode of transportation. Local users interested in tent camping, especially those arriving without a vehicle, should inquire specifically about the rates and any potential discounts available to local residents or those using alternative transportation.

Camp Shabbona Woods Reviews
My family and I wanted to do something different rather than just going to the park and celebrating the 4th of July. So we decided to celebrate the entire 4th of July weekend camping at Camp Shabbona Woods!! We had the most awesome time and it was a wonderful camping experience for the young and old!! We rented out all the cabins and had a blast!! We watch movies on our big screen projector, ate smores by the camp fires. We went on hikes, and even went fishing across the way. It was an experience we'll never forget!! We will be camping at Camp Shabbona Woods again!!
Mar 25, 2025 · Yvonne BrownI'll start by saying my three stars has nothing to do with the quality of the campsite. Camping was really nice and the staff was helpful. The park as a whole is pretty and bathrooms are well maintained. However, I paid $49 for a tent site arriving on my bicycle (as a non-county resident). Midwest parks need to do better to cater to tenters arriving under their own power... nearly $50 for a tent site with no vehicle is borderline ridiculous.
Oct 14, 2024 · Tyler DiedrickHeart of the Lamb Christian Academy youth group enjoyed three days at Camp Shabbona. The campground was well maintained. The staff was superior. We look forward to returning next year. Thanks for a fantastic experience.
Aug 09, 2021 · Michelle HarrisExcellent camping ground not far from the city and in close proximity to coffee shops or fast food places whilst giving the feel of camping in the woods and nature preserve. Good for folks getting introduced to camping.Very helpful staff, the only issue we faced was that the lack of water in the rest rooms and some frantic calls were made by the staff to get the water going again. Please call ahead and ensure that the water issues have been taken care of before you camp.Sand Ridge nature preserve has hiking trails that can be accessed between 8 AM to 4 PM from the camp grounds. You can also sign up for activities and nature preserve tours like the Frog Watch tour etc led by naturalists.Dogs are allowed on the camp sites but must be kept on a leash at all times.Overall, we enjoyed the camping but for the water issues in the rest rooms. I hope FPDCC and the camp site management take care of resolving this immediately.
Jun 02, 2021 · Prabhuram SivaprakasamVery nice little park, well maintained and facilities all clean. Camping is mainly cabins or tents as there is no hookup, but we enjoyed staying over night in our camper van on our #AcumaticaRoadtrip
