Cantrall Buckley Campground Introduce
For local users in Oregon and those searching for "camping near me" near Jacksonville, Cantrall Buckley Campground, located at 154 Cantrall Rd, Jacksonville, OR 97530, USA, offers a camping and recreational area with a notable feature: a popular swimming spot on the river. Based on the available customer reviews, the campground presents a mixed perspective, with one reviewer focusing on the cost of tent camping and another highlighting the excellent swimming opportunities and cleanliness of the area.
Environment: Riverside Setting with Swimming Access
Cantrall Buckley Campground is situated along a river, as indicated by one reviewer's comment about it being a "safe spot on the river to play" and a "great place to swim." This suggests that the primary environmental feature is the river access, likely offering opportunities for various water-based activities. The other reviewer mentions the area looked "nice for some hammock setups," implying the presence of trees suitable for hanging hammocks, which often indicates a wooded or at least partially shaded environment. The campground is located near Jacksonville, a historic town in southern Oregon, suggesting it is within the broader natural landscape of the region, which includes forests, hills, and the Rogue River Valley.
The fact that the swimming area is "always busy with ppl" indicates that the river access is a significant draw and a popular local spot, especially during warmer months. This popularity might influence the overall atmosphere of the campground, potentially being more lively and family-oriented, particularly near the swimming area. The cleanliness mentioned by the reviewer ("It's always clean") suggests that the area is maintained, which is a positive aspect of the environment.
Services and Amenities: Tent Camping and Basic Facilities
One reviewer specifically mentions being quoted $56 for a "couple nights" of tent camping with "no hookups." This provides some insight into the camping options available, indicating that tent camping is permitted. The lack of mention of hookups suggests that the campground may primarily cater to tent campers and possibly those with RVs or trailers that do not require hookups (water, electricity, sewer). The price point mentioned by the reviewer was a point of contention for them, as they felt it was high for basic tent camping without hookups.
Beyond tent camping, the reviews do not explicitly detail other services or amenities. However, based on the information provided, we can infer a few possibilities:
- River Access: The primary amenity seems to be the direct and safe access to the river for swimming and potentially other recreational activities.
- Potential for Hammock Camping: The mention of suitable trees for hammocks suggests that this form of camping might be possible in certain areas of the campground.
- Cleanliness: The positive comment about the area being "always clean" implies some level of maintenance and upkeep.
The absence of mentions of facilities like restrooms (other than the lack of hookups implying no RV restrooms), picnic tables, fire rings, or water sources makes it difficult to ascertain the full range of amenities. It is possible that basic facilities are available but were not specifically mentioned in these brief reviews. For a comprehensive understanding of the services, potential users would need to seek additional information from official sources or other reviews.
Features: Swimming Hole and Riverside Recreation
The standout feature of Cantrall Buckley Campground, according to the reviews, is its excellent swimming area on the river. This makes it a potentially attractive destination for families and individuals looking to cool off and enjoy water-based recreation. Other potential features include:
- Riverside Location: Offering the ambiance and potential activities associated with being situated along a river.
- Suitability for Hammock Camping: The presence of trees may appeal to those who prefer hammock camping.
- Clean Environment: The positive feedback on cleanliness suggests a well-maintained area.
- Popular Local Spot: Being "always busy with ppl" indicates it's a known and frequented recreational area, which can be a positive sign of its appeal and safety.
However, the negative feedback regarding the cost of basic tent camping is also a significant feature that potential users should be aware of. The perception of value can vary greatly, and for some, the price may be a deterrent, especially when compared to free or very low-cost primitive camping options.
It is important to note that the reviews provide limited information about the overall size of the campground, the number of campsites, reservation policies (if any), or rules and regulations. Local users would need to investigate further to obtain a complete picture of what Cantrall Buckley Campground offers.

Cantrall Buckley Campground Reviews
Wanna charge me 56$ just for me and my Gf to camp couple nights, no hookups just Tent camping. Area looked nice for some hammock setups, but im not paying motel prices for what should be free living. And we wonder why there so many homeless in the city well cause they charge just as much even on the outskirts of town. What happen to 5$ stays, pack out what you pack in.
