Carlyle Village Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around Carlyle, Illinois, seeking a "camping near me" experience with a unique aspect of ongoing development and a strong sense of community, Carlyle Village Campground, located at 14700 Lake Rd, Carlyle, IL 62231, USA, presents an interesting option. Customer reviews suggest a welcoming and evolving campground with a focus on affordability, particularly for longer stays, and a dedicated ownership committed to continuous improvement.
Carlyle Village Campground appears to be a project born from transforming an "overrun forest" into a functional and enjoyable camping destination. This suggests a natural setting with the potential for increasing amenities and an evolving landscape as the owners continue their development efforts. The fact that improvements are made each year indicates a dynamic environment where local users can expect to see ongoing enhancements to the facilities and overall camping experience. The owners' dedication, with rotating weekly upkeep, highlights a personal investment in the campground's success and the satisfaction of its guests.
Environment and Atmosphere:
The description of Carlyle Village Campground originating from an "overrun forest" implies a setting rich in natural vegetation, likely featuring trees and possibly a more rustic and wooded environment compared to campgrounds situated on open fields. This could appeal to local users who appreciate camping in a more natural and potentially shaded area. As the campground is being developed, the atmosphere might blend the raw beauty of a forest with the gradual introduction of more structured camping amenities.
Given its address on Lake Rd in Carlyle, it is highly probable that Carlyle Village Campground is located in proximity to Carlyle Lake, a major recreational draw in the region. This suggests that campers might have convenient access to lake-related activities, scenic views of the water, and the overall environment associated with a large reservoir. The atmosphere could therefore be influenced by the lake's presence, offering a blend of woodland camping with the potential for lakeside recreation.
The review stating "It's a fun place. Love it here" suggests a positive and enjoyable atmosphere that resonates with at least one camper. This could be attributed to the community feel, the ongoing improvements, or the natural setting itself. The affordability for longer stays might also contribute to a more relaxed and less transient atmosphere, fostering a sense of community among longer-term guests.
Services and Amenities:
While specific services and amenities are not detailed in the provided reviews, we can infer some possibilities based on the nature of a developing campground and the positive feedback received:
- RV Sites: The mention of affordable monthly rates suggests that the campground caters to RV campers, likely offering sites with some level of hookups (electricity and possibly water/sewer), although the specifics are not provided.
- Tent Camping Areas: As a developing forest area, there would likely be designated or informal areas suitable for tent camping, potentially offering a more rustic experience.
- Basic Facilities: As a work in progress, basic amenities such as restroom facilities (possibly porta-potties or more permanent structures), water sources, and trash disposal would likely be available. The level of these facilities might improve over time with the ongoing development.
- Potential for Future Amenities: The yearly improvements suggest that the campground is likely to add more amenities over time, which could include showers, laundry facilities, recreational areas, and more developed campsites.
Local users should be prepared for potentially more basic amenities compared to fully established campgrounds, but the trade-off appears to be affordability and the charm of a developing natural space.
Features and Unique Aspects:
Carlyle Village Campground offers several unique aspects that might appeal to local campers:
- Ongoing Development and Improvement: The fact that the campground is actively being developed means that the experience can evolve and improve each year, offering something new for returning visitors.
- Affordable Monthly Rates: The significantly lower cost compared to short holiday stays at other campgrounds makes it an attractive option for local users seeking longer-term camping solutions, such as seasonal stays or those who wish to leave their camper in place for more frequent visits.
- Proximity to Carlyle Lake: The Lake Rd address strongly suggests easy access to Carlyle Lake and its recreational opportunities.
- Transformation of a Natural Space: The origin as an "overrun forest" could appeal to those who appreciate a more natural and less manicured camping environment.
- Dedicated Ownership: The active involvement and weekly upkeep by the owners indicate a commitment to the campground and its guests.

Carlyle Village Campground Reviews
It's a fun place. Love it here.
Oct 22, 2022 · John GivensThe owners took an overrun forest and have been developing it. Improvements are made each year. The owners rotate and devote their time each week for upkeep. The cost per month is less than I used to spend for one holiday weekend at Hazlet. It is also so nice not to have to haul our camper back and forth so this allows us to be at the camper more often.
Feb 10, 2022 · Lisa FreyPrivate Campground, Annual rental fee starting at $1400.00, Plan to rv camp Alot to get your hard-earned dollors spent. 🏕 Four property owners to deal with. Not maintained the greatest. Floods Horribly. Gravel lots & roads. Private beach on a cove & Shower house, No laundry facility. I don't feel it is worth the price, zero amenities besides the showers and a ragly and tiny put put couse you have to aupply for, you pay all winter as well so basically an expensive storage for Nov-Apr. I highly suggest you look it up to view photos of flooding. Mostly Fun & Friendly 'Neighborhood' also, All the owners have their favorite people and if your not one of them they bully your Children and nitpick everything.
May 30, 2022 · D. FortNice park with a bathhouse. Roads and sites are gravel. This is a new park so it is still being developed with sites being added and another loop in the future. This park seems to be geared towards wards leaving your camper there year round. The sites don’t have sewer but there is a dump site on property. Nice alternative to the state park and the COE parks nearby.
