Cedar Park Campground Introduce
Looking for an exciting "camping near me" adventure in the Vassar, Kansas area? Cedar Park Campground, located at the approximate coordinates M9VQ+MX, Vassar, KS 66451, USA, appears to be a noteworthy option based on recent customer reviews. Described as a "hidden gem," this campground seems to offer a unique blend of amenities and natural attractions, including hiking trails and water access. Let's delve into what makes Cedar Park Campground a potentially fantastic local camping destination.
Location and Environment: Situated near Vassar, Kansas, Cedar Park Campground seems to be nestled in a "really nice area." One reviewer specifically mentioned the east side having a parking lot and access to the Blackhawk trail. This trail, while "technically for horses," is also enjoyable for hiking, as experienced by a visitor on April 26, 2025. The hike, which involved following the orange trail down and the blue trail back for approximately 7 miles, suggests a diverse terrain with creek crossings. The reviewer noted conditions such as "lots of ticks, poison ivy, overgrown and muddy," indicating a relatively natural and perhaps less manicured trail experience. Despite these challenges, they still "had a great time."
Another reviewer mentioned "water access" and seeing "white bass chasing bait often," strongly suggesting the campground is located near a body of water suitable for fishing. The overall environment appears to be one where outdoor activities like hiking and fishing can be enjoyed, with the Blackhawk trail offering a more rugged, natural experience and the water access providing opportunities for angling.
Services and Amenities: Cedar Park Campground, despite being described as a "hidden gem" and potentially "FREE," offers some notable amenities:
- Toilets: The presence of toilets is explicitly mentioned, which is a significant convenience for campers.
- Concrete Pads for RVs: This indicates that the campground caters to RV campers, providing level and stable pads for parking.
- Water Access: As noted earlier, there is access to water, which is likely a lake or river, given the mention of white bass fishing.
- Great Campsites: One reviewer simply stated that the "campsite was great," suggesting that the individual camping spots are well-regarded.
- Potentially Free: Perhaps one of the most striking features mentioned is that the campground might be "FREE!" This would undoubtedly make it an incredibly attractive option for budget-conscious local campers.
- Parking Lot and Trail Access: The east side of the campground has a parking lot providing access to the Blackhawk trail, making it convenient for hikers.
The combination of these amenities, especially if the camping is indeed free, makes Cedar Park Campground a very appealing option for a variety of campers, from tent enthusiasts looking to hike to RVers seeking a no-cost stop with essential facilities.
Features and Appeal: Cedar Park Campground's appeal lies in several key features:
- Free Camping (Potentially): If the "FREE!" comment is accurate, this is a major draw for local campers.
- Access to the Blackhawk Trail: Hikers will appreciate the direct access to this approximately 7-mile trail, offering a more adventurous hiking experience through potentially overgrown and muddy areas with creek crossings.
- Water Access and Fishing: Anglers will be interested in the water access and the opportunity to catch white bass.
- RV Friendly: The concrete pads cater specifically to RV campers.
- Basic Amenities Provided: The presence of toilets and water access offers essential conveniences.
For those searching within the "camping near me" category, Cedar Park Campground presents a unique opportunity for a potentially free camping experience with access to hiking and fishing, along with basic but appreciated amenities like toilets and RV pads. The "hidden gem" moniker suggests it might be a less crowded and more local favorite.

Cedar Park Campground Reviews
Really nice area - east side has a parking lot and access to the Blackhawk trail. Technically for horses, but we hiked it on 4/26/25 and had a great time. Lots of ticks, poison ivy, overgrown and muddy but we were able to cross all the creeks. Had a great time! Followed the orange trail down and the blue trail back, approximately 7 miles.
