Horseshoe Holler Horse Camp Introduce
For local users searching for 'camping near me' in the Eminence, Missouri area, Horseshoe Holler Horse Camp, located at 19164 MO-19, 65466, USA, presents a unique option, particularly for those traveling with horses. Combining the convenience of a campground with facilities tailored for equestrian needs, Horseshoe Holler offers a distinctive camping experience. However, recent reviews provide a somewhat mixed perspective that local users should carefully consider when planning their visit.
On the positive side, Horseshoe Holler Horse Camp offers several appealing features. For those with larger vehicles, one reviewer notes the ease of "easy in and out with big rigs," suggesting good accessibility for RVs and trailers. A significant advantage for horse owners is the availability of "very nice stalls," indicating well-maintained accommodations for equine companions. The campground also boasts "full hook up" campsites, a desirable amenity for RV travelers seeking water, electricity, and sewer connections. Furthermore, the convenience of having "trails out of camp" directly accessible allows for immediate immersion in horseback riding or hiking adventures. The proximity to "river access" is another significant draw for those wishing to enjoy water-based activities in the area.
For pet owners, it's noted that "dogs on leash allowed," which is a welcoming policy for many travelers. Additionally, the availability of "sells shavings and pellets" on-site is a practical convenience for those traveling with horses. The owners are described as "very nice and accommodating" by one reviewer, suggesting a positive and helpful management team. Another significant benefit highlighted is the location's proximity to local amenities, being "within walking distance of J&L tack" (a presumably well-regarded store) and also "walking distance to all the cute shops and restaurants in Eminence." This blend of a natural camping setting with easy access to town conveniences can be quite appealing to many local campers.
However, a more critical review from a long-time visitor of at least twelve years presents a contrasting perspective on the recent evolution of Horseshoe Holler Horse Camp. While acknowledging the "really nice and large" stalls, "spacious" campsites, and "friendly" owners, this reviewer expresses significant concerns about a perceived decline in the campground's atmosphere and management of certain aspects.
A major issue raised is the apparent lack of enforcement regarding pet policies. Despite the website stating that dogs must be leashed at all times, the reviewer reports that "most people just let their dogs run loose," leading to problems such as "dog waste everywhere you walk" and dogs entering campsites unattended. This behavior has resulted in instances of dogs urinating on personal belongings like coolers, hay, and mats, and even an off-leash dog snapping at the reviewer's leashed dog. For local users who are particular about pet etiquette and the safety of their own animals, this reported lack of enforcement could be a significant deterrent.
Another significant concern is the prevalence of off-road vehicles. The reviewer states that the campground has been "overrun with atv's and side by sides while you're trying to saddle and ride your horse." This presents a potential safety issue and detracts from the peaceful enjoyment of the campground for those primarily there for horseback riding. Furthermore, the noise from these vehicles is a major point of contention, with side-by-sides reportedly starting as early as 6 am and continuing until as late as 10:30 pm. This prolonged noise disrupts any opportunity for "peaceful quiet time for relaxing," which is often a primary motivation for local residents seeking a camping escape.
The stark contrast between the two reviews highlights a potential shift in the campground's environment over time. While it initially offered a pleasant and organized experience, the more recent feedback suggests a decline in the management of pet control and noise levels. Local users who value a quiet and orderly camping experience, particularly those with their own leashed pets or those seeking a peaceful environment for horseback riding, should carefully weigh these concerns.
Information regarding specific services beyond full hookups and horse stalls is limited. It's unclear from the reviews whether the campground offers amenities such as shower facilities, laundry, or organized activities. Local users with specific needs should inquire directly about the availability of these services.
Similarly, details about specific features of the campground layout, such as the number of campsites, the spacing between them, or the presence of communal areas, are not extensively covered in the provided reviews. The mention of trails out of camp suggests direct access to riding or hiking paths, which is a significant feature for outdoor enthusiasts.
No specific promotional information is available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in learning about rates, availability, or any special offers should contact Horseshoe Holler Horse Camp directly using the provided phone numbers: (573) 226-3291 or the mobile number +1 573-226-3291.
In conclusion, Horseshoe Holler Horse Camp offers a unique combination of amenities for both RV campers and those traveling with horses, along with a convenient location near local attractions in Eminence, MO. However, recent feedback indicates potential issues with the enforcement of pet leash rules and significant noise from off-road vehicles, which may detract from the experience for some local users. While the stalls and hookups are praised, and the owners are described as friendly, the changing atmosphere and lack of quiet time are important factors to consider. Local residents seeking 'camping near me' should weigh the benefits of the horse-friendly facilities and proximity to town against the reported concerns about noise and pet management before making a decision. Direct communication with the campground owners is recommended to obtain the most current information and address any specific concerns.

Oct 18, 2022 · Marcia VoorheesWe've been going to this campground for at least the last 12 years. Over that time, it has grown and each year it gets more chaotic than the year before. We used to really enjoy coming here each year and looked forward to it. The stalls are really nice and large, the camp sites are spacious, and the owners are friendly. However, over the last few years, it's gotten crazy. Most people just let their dogs run loose (even though the website states they have to be leashed at all times) resulting in dog waste everywhere you walk and dogs coming into your camp and the dogowners don't even pay attention to what their dogs are doing. Dogs are peeing on your cooler, hay, mat and whatever else you leave laying in your campsite. We even had a dog that was off leash snap at our dog in the face. It has also been overrun with atv's and side by sides while you're trying to saddle and ride your horse. There's no peaceful quiet time for relaxing as the side by sides start running as early as 6am and keep going to sometimes 1030pm. We really are sad to see this going on when it was such a nice place to go to get away from all that chaos. If you're someone who likes unruly crowds, craziness, and dogs running all over, this place will suit you just fine!
Oct 31, 2024 · Laurie HrpchaRecently stayed there with a group of 7. I can not say enough about how accommodating the staff was. The stalls were every nice, and camp ground was clean. Camp sites were easy to back into and fairly level. Again the staff was extremely friendly and helped any way they could.
Jul 21, 2023 · Garrett RoseLovely, quiet camping area; full hookups with proper electric, water and sewer at each site. Big trailers accommodated without issue. If you need a larger stall (draft or draft x) they can accommodate that too, with proper planning. Staff were pleasant and very helpful. Looking forward to returning with our horses.
Jun 29, 2022 · Cindy HollandI traveled with 6 people and we all enjoyed our stay! Grounds were tidy and plenty of room at each campsite. We had many employee interactions and each one was wonderful. Great place!
