The camp operates throughout the summer with various programs, starting with a Christian Family Camp and extending to camps designed for young children through to retirees. This inclusive atmosphere suggests a community-oriented environment where individuals and families can connect and enjoy their time together. The physical setting in the Finger Lakes region implies access to the natural beauty of upstate New York, known for its rolling hills, lakes, and scenic landscapes. The mention of nearby attractions like Watkins Glen and numerous waterfalls further highlights the natural appeal of the location.
One of the standout features of Chambers Camp is the diverse range of lodging options available. According to a reviewer, "You can be as rustic as you want with primitive tent camping; or just a few steps down from a hotel with our Canadagua building and Missions Retreat building." This indicates that whether you prefer a traditional, back-to-nature camping experience in a tent or the comfort and convenience of hotel-style accommodations, Chambers Camp has options to suit your needs. The Canadagua building and Missions Retreat building offer a step up from rustic camping, providing hotel-like rooms with essential amenities, although daily maid service is not included. This variety makes Chambers Camp appealing to different comfort levels and group types.
Beyond lodging, Chambers Camp boasts an impressive array of recreational facilities and activities. The reviewer lists a "pool, basketball court, tetherball, 2 playgrounds one for toddlers and the other for older children, volleyball and gaga ball pit, an archery range and more." This extensive list suggests that there are ample opportunities for fun and engagement for all ages. Families with children will appreciate the dedicated playgrounds, while sports enthusiasts can enjoy basketball and volleyball. The inclusion of a pool offers a refreshing way to cool off during the summer months, and the archery range and gaga ball pit provide unique and entertaining activities. The "and more" hints at the possibility of even more amenities and programs available at the camp.
For dining options, Chambers Camp features a "Snack Shack" that is open multiple times a day during camps, as well as a "dining hall." The reviewer advises purchasing a ticket at the office to use the dining hall, ensuring proper arrangements are made. This indicates that meal services are available on-site, providing convenience for campers and retreat attendees. Additionally, the location of Chambers Camp offers easy access to a variety of off-site dining options. The reviewer notes that "The restaurants in the area are great they range from fine dining to fast food withing 15 minutes." This provides flexibility for those who wish to explore local culinary offerings.
The surrounding area of Chambers Camp also offers a wealth of attractions and activities beyond the camp itself. The mention of "Walkins Glen Race Way and Gorge to all the beautiful waterfalls that this area has to offer" highlights the natural and recreational opportunities nearby. Watkins Glen State Park is renowned for its stunning gorge and waterfalls, making it a must-visit for nature lovers. For rainy days, the reviewer suggests indoor attractions such as the "Corning Museum of Glass to the Rockwell Museum, Soaring museum and the Glen Curtis Museum all with 45 min or less." This ensures that even if the weather doesn't cooperate, there are plenty of interesting and educational things to do within a short drive. Furthermore, being situated in the Finger Lakes region, Chambers Camp is near some of the "finest cheese tasting" opportunities, appealing to those with a culinary interest in local specialties.
One potential drawback mentioned in the reviews is the "wi-fi." The reviewer notes, "It isn't the best, but if your there and your not competing with 100 teenagers for it you should be ok." This suggests that while Wi-Fi is available, its performance might be limited, especially during peak times when many people are using it. For those who rely heavily on internet connectivity, this is a factor to consider. However, the reviewer also implies that for less intensive use or during quieter periods, the Wi-Fi might be adequate.
The positive testimonials from past visitors underscore the welcoming and impactful nature of Chambers Camp. One reviewer, who attended as a teen and now sends their own children, highlights the camp's long-standing presence and positive influence. The construction of a "new tabernacle" is mentioned as a significant addition. The reviewer also praises the "counselors, pastors, staff, and everyone involved" as "wonderful," emphasizing the positive and supportive community at the camp. The hope that the camp will continue to serve future generations speaks to its lasting impact and value.
In conclusion, Chambers Camp and Retreat Center, easily found within the "camping near me" category in Beaver Dams, NY, offers a diverse and family-friendly experience. With options ranging from primitive tent camping to hotel-style lodging, an array of recreational facilities including a pool and sports courts, on-site dining, and proximity to the natural beauty and attractions of the Finger Lakes region, it caters to a wide range of interests. Jul 29, 2021 · Michele HerrNeckarThis is a great Christian camp that has been around for a long time. I remember when I went there as a teen. Now, our kids have gone there for the past 10 years or so. They just built a new tabernacle there, which is a great addition. The counselors, pastors, staff, and everyone involved are wonderful. We hope that this camp is there for future generations to appreciate and learn about God's word.
