Chesaning Showboat Camping Introduce
For those in Michigan and the surrounding areas searching for an exceptional "camping near me" experience, Chesaning Showboat Camping, located at 805 S Front St, Chesaning, MI 48616, USA, offers a delightful riverside retreat with a range of appealing amenities and a convenient location. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground stands out for its cleanliness, scenic environment, and diverse recreational opportunities, making it an attractive destination for various types of campers.
One recent visitor highlighted the remarkable cleanliness of the sites and grounds, which is a significant factor for a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. This attention to maintenance suggests that Chesaning Showboat Camping prioritizes the comfort and satisfaction of its guests by ensuring a well-kept environment.
The campground's location along a "beautiful river" is another major draw, with the reviewer noting that it looked "great to kayak down and fish in." This provides excellent opportunities for water-based recreation, allowing campers to enjoy leisurely paddles or try their luck at fishing right from the campground. The presence of a calm river, as indicated in the photos mentioned by one reviewer, further enhances its appeal for these activities.
Beyond the river, Chesaning Showboat Camping offers several other recreational facilities. The presence of "nice pavilions" suggests communal spaces where groups can gather for picnics, social events, or simply to enjoy the outdoors under shelter. Families with children will appreciate the "play structures," providing a safe and fun area for kids to burn off energy. A standout feature is the "awesome Disc golf course," catering to enthusiasts of this popular outdoor activity and offering a unique form of recreation within the campground itself.
The campground also boasts an "incredible draining system," which proved its effectiveness during a "HUGE overnight rainstorm." The reviewer was "very impressed" that once the rain cleared, there were only "small little puddles here and there on the road," indicating excellent water management that prevents sites and pathways from becoming waterlogged and muddy, ensuring better usability and comfort for campers, even after significant rainfall.
Convenience is another advantage of Chesaning Showboat Camping, as it offers an "easy bike ride into town." This allows campers to explore the local area, access amenities, and experience the charm of Chesaning without having to drive. The reviewer specifically recommended trying out the "Malt shop" in town, suggesting a local gem worth visiting.
While the overall experience seems highly positive, one reviewer noted a couple of minor drawbacks. They mentioned that "some of the sites are pretty close together" and that "there is not a picnic table on each site." However, they also qualified this by stating that if the campground is "never full, you wouldn't have to worry about space." This suggests that while site density might be a concern during peak times, it may not be an issue during less crowded periods. The absence of a picnic table at every site is a minor inconvenience that some campers might want to consider, perhaps bringing their own portable table if desired.
A local resident who lives nearby also described Chesaning Showboat Camping as a "great park and sweet little campground," further reinforcing its positive reputation within the community. Their anecdotal mention of finding a kitten there, possibly having wandered from a camper, also subtly hints at the friendly and community-oriented atmosphere that might be present.
Based on the information available, Chesaning Showboat Camping offers a clean and well-maintained environment with a beautiful riverside location ideal for kayaking and fishing. The presence of pavilions, play structures, and an awesome disc golf course provides a variety of recreational activities for guests of all ages. Its convenient location allows for easy bike rides into the town of Chesaning, where local attractions like a malt shop can be enjoyed. The impressive drainage system ensures that the grounds remain usable even after heavy rain.
While some campsites might be close together and not all have picnic tables, these appear to be minor points compared to the overall positive experience reported by visitors. For those searching for "camping near me" in the Chesaning, MI area, particularly those who appreciate river access, recreational facilities, and a clean environment, Chesaning Showboat Camping is definitely worth considering.

Chesaning Showboat Camping Reviews
We just stayed here and the sites and grounds were very clean. Beautiful river that looked great to kayak down and fish in, plus nice pavillions, play structures and awesome Disc golf course. They also have an incredible draining system. We were part of Saturday's HUGE overnight rainstorm and once it cleared up in the a.m. there were only small little puddles here and there on the road (very impressed). Easy bike ride into town (need to try out the Malt shop). The only reason I took 1 star off was, even though there was hardly anyone there and we had plenty of space, some of the sites are pretty close together and there is not a picnic table on each site. However, with that said, if they are never full, you wouldn' thave to worry about space.Photos 1-4 are in town and photos 5-6 are in the campground just a little down from our campsite (very calm river).
Jul 25, 2022 · Sharon CookI live a few blocks from here. This is a great park and sweet little campground. I found this kitten there, thought maybe ske got out of a camper
Jul 28, 2024 · lee DetwilerWe stayed for a few days leading up to the Fourth of July.Showboat Park Campground is a nice park, too bad they don't want anyone to camp here! The bathhouse is clean and well cared for. The lawns are mowed every day. The trash cans are emptied every day. The sites are large and level. There are plenty of shade trees. There are pavilions, picnic tables, fire pits, grills, a Disk Golf course, Baseball diamonds, and a canoe launch for the Shiawassee River. The place really has a lot to offer. Here are the reasons I get the impression they don't want people to stay here. The dump pit is locked, they don’t trust you to use it properly. You can never get a hold of anyone for help when you need it.The water stinks real bad.You can’t even make reservations.Nobody knows who's in charge of the place. And worst of all nobody even cares. What a shame!
Jul 04, 2018 · Tim EnrightCampsites aren’t great but the experience is awesome! The Shiawasee River is right here, disc golf is right here, town is a bike ride away, there’s a beautiful variety of trees and nice play parks. The showers are decent also. Also, a fair price!!
