Chisholm Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a "camping near me" experience that combines the tranquility of nature with the convenience of lakeside access, Chisholm Campground, located at 18M S R, Hyalite Canyon Rd, Bozeman, MT 59718, USA, offers an appealing destination. Situated in the scenic Hyalite Canyon, this campground is praised for its quiet atmosphere, spacious and well-separated campsites, and abundant tree cover. While access to the lake might have some slightly swampy areas, the overall experience is highly regarded, especially for those who enjoy fishing and a peaceful camping environment.
The Environment: Lakeside Serenity in Hyalite Canyon
Chisholm Campground is nestled within the stunning Hyalite Canyon, a popular recreational area near Bozeman known for its natural beauty, including a picturesque lake and surrounding mountains. The environment of the campground is characterized by a significant amount of tree cover, which is a notable advantage for providing shade, enhancing privacy between campsites, and contributing to a more immersive natural experience. The presence of "lots of trees" suggests a setting that feels secluded and offers a welcome respite from the sun, especially during warmer months.
A key feature of Chisholm Campground is its location "right on the lake," providing many campsites with direct or very close access to the water. This lakeside setting offers opportunities for enjoying the scenic beauty of the lake, with potential for reflections of the surrounding trees and mountains on the water's surface. The quiet atmosphere of the campground, as highlighted by a reviewer, further enhances the sense of tranquility and makes it an ideal spot for those looking to escape the noise of more crowded areas.
However, one review mentions that access to the lake can be "a little swampy" in some areas. This suggests that while the campground is on the lake, certain entry points to the water might have softer, more marshy ground. Local users planning to access the lake for fishing or other activities should be aware of this potential condition and consider bringing appropriate footwear.
The spaciousness of the campsites, with sites being "really spaced out," is another significant environmental benefit. This layout provides campers with more privacy and a greater sense of being in nature without feeling crowded by neighboring sites. The combination of tree cover, lake proximity, and spaciousness contributes to a memorable camping experience that many users seem to appreciate.

Chisholm Campground Reviews
Great campground. Quiet and sites are really spaced out. Lots of trees. Access to the lake is okay, but can be a little swampy. Really nice stay.
Jul 25, 2020 · Tara CrosbyGreat campground if you can get in, right on lake with great fishing and tree cover. Memorable camping everytime!!
Jun 21, 2022 · Chris VanBockelThis is a beautiful campground. Bathrooms are spotless and always toilet paper in them. Camp Host are awesome and very accommodating. They try very hard to get everyone to abide by the rules and regulations. This does not make them a camp host from hell as they are only following their orders to keep dogs on leashes and kids out of other people's campsites. She hands out glow bracelets for all the children. They want everyone to experience a great time in the campground and everything that is around it We hope they will be back next year as they made us have a great experience camping.
Sep 01, 2022 · DeborahVery rude camp host. I was born and raised in Bozeman area and this lady doesn't represent who we are. Maybe cleaning out houses and taking care of a campground isnt for her. It's time you go find another job. Know it is super busy so even tried a little small talk about it's a beautiful day, nice to see the water level up and etc and she still acted as if I was just some pain in the rear problem. Well hope she stops and looks around Montana is beautiful.
Jul 10, 2022 · Jeff SkeltonSmall campground with easy access to the south side of the reservoir. In the early part of the year the water will be close but after that you have to walk a ways to get to the water. Nice creek flowing on one side of the campground. Like any campground you are dependent upon your neighbors to make it pleasant. It may not be unusual to have a group of college kids show up at three after the bars close and whoop it up for a while.
