Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Williamsburg, Kentucky area searching for "camping near me," Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground, located at 1901 River Rd, Williamsburg, KY 40769, USA, offers a riverside camping experience with various accommodation options. Based on recent user reviews available online, this campground presents a mix of features and considerations for potential visitors.
One detailed review from June 2024 provides a comprehensive overview of the campground's layout and amenities, which is valuable for local users exploring "camping near me." The campground appears to be divided into upper and lower (riverfront) campsites, each with distinct characteristics.
The upper campsites offer room for approximately five campers or RVs with hookups. However, it's noted that these sites lack significant shade for campers. The Birdsong Cabin is also situated on this level. Additionally, there are two tent sites located to the right upon entry, before the driveway divides. One of these tent sites benefits from a cluster of trees providing shade. For waste disposal, one of the tent sites has a large trash barrel, and campers are advised to bring their own large black garbage bags. Three large community garbage cans are available at the driveway intersection upon arrival.
Adding a touch of local charm, the review mentions two resident cats, affectionately named Kitty & Boy, who are friendly and enjoy attention from campers. This could be a pleasant feature for animal lovers searching for a relaxed "camping near me" experience.
The lower, riverfront campsites are accessed via a road described as "rough and bumpy with ruts," suggesting that caution and possibly higher clearance vehicles are recommended for navigating this area. In contrast to the upper sites, the riverfront area is noted as being very shaded with a direct view of the river. This section offers at least eight or more potential tent sites, catering to those seeking a more immersive natural setting for their "camping near me" adventure.
Regarding campground amenities, Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground offers a toilet and shower in a grey building located next to "The Groomer" building. Additionally, there are standalone toilet and shower rooms situated next to each other in a corner of the property, described as looking like sheds. A vending machine is available in a shed near the bath facilities. It's important to note that the riverfront camping area only has a port-a-potty and no showers, which is a crucial consideration for those planning an extended stay in this section and searching for "camping near me" with specific hygiene needs.
For convenience, firewood can be purchased by the wheelbarrow for $15, with delivery to the campsite. Farm-fresh eggs are also available for purchase at $3-$4 by texting the host, offering a local touch for campers looking for fresh food options during their "camping near me" getaway.
The location of Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground provides easy access to the town of Williamsburg, which is beneficial for local users needing supplies or wanting to explore nearby conveniences. The review highlights the availability of fast food restaurants, shopping options (including IGA, Walmart, and Dollar Tree), a coffee shop ("The Coffee Spot"), and a visitor center. A local produce stand is also mentioned on the road towards Williamsburg. For recreational activities beyond the campground itself, a waterpark is located just a few minutes away.
The overall atmosphere of the campground is described as quiet and peaceful. In the evenings, campers can expect to hear the sounds of rural living, such as dogs barking and roosters crowing, which contributes to the local ambiance for those seeking an authentic "camping near me" experience. Furthermore, the campground offers easy access to nearby state parks, and the Tennessee state line is not far, potentially opening up additional exploration opportunities for local campers.
However, it's important to consider a less positive review from a camper who rented the whole side of the river for a large group. This reviewer found that only two of the six sites were usable, suggesting potential issues with site maintenance or suitability for large groups, especially in unfavorable weather conditions. They recommended the installation of tent platforms, noting that rain within seven days could turn the entire campground into a mud pit. This group ultimately had to find another camping location and could not recommend Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground for large groups or if rain was expected within two weeks of their trip. They also mentioned that the sites were not well-kept and that the host was unwilling to work with them on more suitable accommodations.
Considering these contrasting reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh the positive aspects of the campground, such as the riverfront location, available amenities (though limited in the lower area), and proximity to town, against the potential drawbacks related to site conditions, especially for large groups or during wet weather. The availability of RV hookups in the upper area is a plus for those traveling with recreational vehicles.
For local campers planning a trip to Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground, it would be advisable to inquire directly with the host about the current condition of the campsites, particularly if traveling with a large group or if there has been recent rainfall. Clarifying the suitability of the riverfront sites for larger groups and the potential for muddy conditions would be prudent. Additionally, confirming the availability and functionality of all listed amenities, especially the showers and restrooms, is recommended.
In conclusion, Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground near Williamsburg, KY, offers a riverside camping experience with a mix of RV and tent sites, along with cabin rentals. Its proximity to town and nearby attractions like a waterpark adds to its appeal for local users searching for "camping near me." However, potential campers should be aware of the reported issues with site conditions, especially in the lower riverfront area during or after rain, and the potential limitations for large groups. Direct communication with the host is recommended to ensure the campground meets individual needs and expectations for a local camping getaway.

Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground Reviews
This site looks great for small groups in only favorable weather, but we rented the whole side of the river for a large group and only 2 of the 6 sites were usable. I would suggest putting in some tent platforms if rain within 7 days turns the entire campground into a mud pit. We ended up finding another place to camp in the area thankfully, but I can’t recommend this campsite to large groups or if there is rain in the radar within 2 weeks of your camping trip. The sites were not kept up and the host was unwilling to work with us on more suitable accommodations for our group size.

Jun 19, 2024 · Egg Queen WanabeeIf you’re in need of a place to camp, give this wonderful lady your money lolI had been to 10 different camp sites because none of them would answer the phone. I found Clayton on accident trying to go to another camp and I’m so glad I did. She was so nice and caring, she answered the phone right away even though it was 6am. And actually got out of bed to come let me stay, which is beyond kind given the time. The place is beautiful and peaceful down on the river. I will definitely be coming back again soon!

May 17, 2024 · Orlando S HidalgoAmber and her cabins are amazing! I personally have stayed there several times over the last year. I am not a fan of primitive camping so I don’t. The Birdsong cabin is my favorite. Super clean, super comfy and super relaxing. We stayed in the covered wagon this weekend and that was also a great adventure! Looking forward to going back!
