Clearwater Lake campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience immersed in the natural beauty of Central Florida, Clearwater Lake Campground, located at 24511 Co Rd 42, Paisley, FL 32767, USA, offers a peaceful retreat within the renowned Ocala National Forest. With phone numbers (352) 669-0078 and +1 352-669-0078 available for local inquiries, this federal campground provides a range of amenities and recreational opportunities centered around a picturesque lake and the surrounding forest. Reviews from recent visitors offer valuable insights into the environment, services, and features of this local camping destination.
The environment of Clearwater Lake Campground is consistently described as "peaceful," characteristic of its setting within the expansive Ocala National Forest. This location offers local campers a chance to escape the urban bustle and immerse themselves in a natural landscape of pine forests, diverse wildlife, and the serene waters of Clearwater Lake. For those searching for "camping near me" with a focus on tranquility and natural beauty, this campground appears to be an excellent option. The well-maintained grounds further enhance the appeal of the environment, ensuring a pleasant and organized camping experience.
In terms of services and features, Clearwater Lake Campground offers a range of amenities designed for a comfortable and convenient stay. Each of the "large" campsites is equipped with essential items such as a bear box for secure food storage, a fire ring for campfires, a lamp post for lighting, and a picnic table for outdoor dining. While the sites do not offer individual utility hookups (no electricity, water, or sewer at the individual sites), the campground provides communal water spigots and a dump station for RV users. This setup caters to both tent campers and RVers seeking a "camping near me" experience with basic necessities covered.
For restroom and shower facilities, Clearwater Lake Campground boasts "two clean and well maintained" buildings. This is a significant plus for campers who appreciate clean and accessible hygiene facilities during their outdoor stay. The availability of these amenities enhances the overall comfort and convenience for local users choosing this campground for their "camping near me" adventure.
A central feature of Clearwater Lake Campground is the small lake itself, which offers a variety of recreational opportunities. There is a designated beach and swimming area, perfect for cooling off on warm Florida days. Additionally, the campground provides paddle craft rentals, allowing visitors to explore the lake at their own pace. For local campers interested in water-based activities such as swimming and paddling, Clearwater Lake is a significant draw.
For added convenience, the entry station at Clearwater Lake Campground offers the sale of essential camping supplies, including bags of ice and firewood. One reviewer specifically mentioned purchasing firewood for $7 plus tax and appreciated the kind host who delivered it directly to their campsite. This service adds to the ease of the camping experience, allowing local users to acquire necessary items without leaving the campground.
Clearwater Lake Campground also caters to outdoor enthusiasts with its access to hiking trails. A "beautiful trail" encircles the lake, offering a scenic 1.2-mile loop for walking and enjoying the natural surroundings. Furthermore, the campground provides access points to the renowned Florida Trail, opening up opportunities for longer and more immersive hiking experiences within Ocala National Forest. For local hikers searching for "camping near me" with trail access, this is a significant advantage.
While the natural environment and amenities are generally well-received, one reviewer noted that the "cost is pretty steep for no hook ups," mentioning a price of $63.50 for two nights excluding taxes and reservation fees. Local users on a budget might find this pricing a consideration when comparing "camping near me" options. It's important to weigh the cost against the value of the location, amenities, and overall experience offered.
Connectivity is another factor to consider. One visitor reported "hit or miss" cell service with a T-Mobile hotspot but "good" service with Verizon phones. Local campers who rely on cellular communication or internet access during their stay should be aware of potential variations in service depending on their provider.
A notable suggestion from a reviewer was to designate one of the campground loops as "generator free." The reviewer appreciated the peaceful evenings around the campfire but was disturbed by the noise of generators starting up nearby. This highlights a potential issue for local campers seeking a truly quiet and natural experience. The intermingling of tent and RV spots might lead to noise from RV generators, which could detract from the peaceful ambiance.
Another point of caution raised by a visitor was the prevalence of ticks, particularly during April. They described it as "the most ticks I’ve ever seen while camping." Local users planning to visit Clearwater Lake Campground, especially during warmer months, should take precautions against ticks, such as using insect repellent and wearing appropriate clothing.
In summary, Clearwater Lake Campground in Ocala National Forest offers a peaceful and well-maintained "camping near me" option with large campsites, clean facilities, lake access with swimming and paddle craft, and access to hiking trails. Essential camping supplies like firewood and ice are available for purchase. However, potential drawbacks include a relatively higher cost for sites without hookups, variable cell service depending on the provider, potential noise from RV generators, and a noted prevalence of ticks during certain times of the year. Local campers seeking a natural retreat with lake and trail access should weigh these factors when considering Clearwater Lake Campground for their next outdoor adventure.

Clearwater Lake campground Reviews
Peaceful federal campground in Ocala National Forest. We stayed two nights here in February, the sites were large with bear box, fire ring, lamp post and picnic table. No utilities at the sites but water and a dump station are available as are two clean and well maintained shower/restroom facilities. There is a small lake with a beach, swimming area and paddle craft for rent. Bags of ice and firewood can be purchased at the entry station.Grounds are well maintained and bear safety and site parking rules (vehicles must be on the pavement) are enforced. We purchased firewood for $7 plus tax and the host was kind enough to deliver it directly to our site. We spent time paddling the lake, swimming and hiking. There is a beautiful trail the encircles the lake, about 1.2 miles, and there are means of access to the Florida Trail from the campground as well.Cost is pretty steep for no hook ups, we paid $63.50 for the two nights excluding taxes and reservation fees.Cell service was hit or miss with our T-Mobile hot spot and good with our Verizon phones. My only complaint/suggestion would be to designate one of the two loops as generator free. It was so peaceful sitting around the fire in the evenings but I would have to resort to playing some quiet music as the generators around us started up.
Feb 25, 2022 · Eric PritchardOverall pretty good camping and day use spot. Pros: Camp sites have grill, table, and bear box. Bear proof trash cans and bathroom/shower also close by. Easy lake access with both walking and biking trails. Cons: Kind of expensive and the most ticks I’ve ever seen while camping (April ‘23). Tent camping and RV spots intermingled so you’ll likely hear RV or generator humming all night.

Jun 07, 2024 · Leona SchmitFrom the start of the camping stay it was one thing after another the camp site rented for 3 days fri till Monday. For 2 cars up to 5 people to stay over night and visitors to get a day pass. The couple we went with left for the day and we arrived at the camp site before I could even get my jeep unloaded the camp host whistling at me from the golf cart to tell me I can't park on the sand to unload the kayak. So moved the jeep up besides my daughter's car with 2 wheels on asphalt and 2 wheels on rock soon camp host back to state can't have wheels on rock. So moved jeep again. Then he kept circling the site, checking on if my service dog was on a 6 foot leash. Finally I decided I would just rent the campsite next to the couple site so maybe he would just leave us alone. Rented the campsite online, after the lecture of the rules returned to the newly rented camp site to find a truck someone in the site, drive back up to make the gate person aware but nope I had to tell the person I rented it. So now thinking all is good we start cooking after several checks from the host, his wife totally took any enjoyment out of the stay. Then the couple we were with got lectured about a lock that locks the gate at night and apparently not locking it correctly, then go yo take trash to trash container the host yells from his spot for me to just leave the garbage he will put it in the trash, we put it in the trash and he immediately came to check it out. Made it through the night...go to take a shower none of the women showers work dribbling water, dirty. My daughter comes to spend the day as now we have 2 sites can have 4 cars 10 stay over people and they were stopped at the gate by the camp host wife giving them a hard time claiming that we were given out site passes. Finally today people not registered to a site able to drive around camp sites asking other campers about the place.Well we spent $87.00 and some odd cents to stay there as well as the e other couple and it was the most uncomfortable, non stop hassle ever we are in our late 50's non parties and was treated poorly. Not only do I want a refund but the place and the staff needs an overhaul. It was the most terrible Father's Day.William HowellLori Linscott
Jun 17, 2024 · Lori LinscottWe rented a site for 3 days non stop harassment by camp hosts, gate attendant. Women's bathroom showers do not work, bathroom dirty. The non stop circling and counseling by the host was too much... Ruined the whole camping experience. Don't camp here as it is policed by the staff to make you feel so uncomfortable when we were not doing anything wrong
