Lake Dorr Campground Introduce
Seeking a camping destination in the 'camping near me' category within the Altoona, Florida area? Lake Dorr Campground, located at 5024 Lake Dorr Road, offers a local option for those looking to enjoy the outdoors. Situated near the scenic Lake Dorr, this campground presents a natural environment that may appeal to various camping enthusiasts. However, recent reviews provide important perspectives on the campground's conditions that local users should consider.
The environment surrounding Lake Dorr Campground is likely a significant draw for visitors. Lake Dorr itself is known for its natural beauty and opportunities for water-based activities, although the reviews do not explicitly mention direct access or amenities related to the lake from the campground. The campground's location in Altoona places it within proximity to the Ocala National Forest, a vast and diverse natural area renowned for its springs, hiking trails, and abundant wildlife. This suggests that campers at Lake Dorr Campground may have opportunities for exploring the broader natural attractions of the region.
One positive aspect mentioned in a review is that the campground is a "good lil campground" and that the bathroom had showers. This indicates that basic facilities for personal hygiene are available for campers. However, this positive note is contrasted by another review that raises significant concerns about the cleanliness of the bathrooms. This reviewer, who stayed for 14 days, reported that the bathrooms were consistently dirty and that the cleaning method observed was simply flooding the floor with water, leaving the toilets filthy. This discrepancy in the perception of bathroom cleanliness is something potential visitors should be aware of.
Another crucial point raised in one of the reviews is the presence of a significant tick problem at Lake Dorr Campground. The reviewer explicitly advises bringing "off repellent" and notes encountering ticks crawling on them even without venturing into the woods, but staying within their tent site. This suggests that ticks may be prevalent throughout the campground area, posing a potential health concern for campers. Local users planning a visit should take this feedback seriously and come prepared with effective tick repellent and appropriate protective measures.
Given the limited information beyond these two reviews, details about other services and features of Lake Dorr Campground are not readily available. Typically, campgrounds offer a range of amenities that can include: designated tent sites and/or RV sites, water hookups, electrical hookups (for RVs), picnic tables, fire rings, and potentially communal areas. However, the provided reviews do not confirm the presence or condition of these additional features at Lake Dorr Campground. Local users interested in specific amenities should consider contacting the campground directly for more information.
The reviews do not contain any explicit promotional information or special offers for Lake Dorr Campground. Therefore, local users searching for deals or discounts would need to check with the campground directly or look for listings on camping reservation websites. It's possible that the campground offers seasonal rates or discounts for longer stays, but this cannot be confirmed based on the provided text.
Considering the feedback from the reviews, local users considering Lake Dorr Campground should weigh the potential benefits of its location near natural attractions against the reported issues with bathroom cleanliness and the presence of ticks. The proximity to Lake Dorr and the Ocala National Forest could offer opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the natural landscapes of Central Florida. However, the negative comments regarding the facilities and the tick problem are significant factors that should influence a decision to camp here.
For local residents looking for 'camping near me' in the Altoona area, Lake Dorr Campground might be an option to consider, especially if proximity to Lake Dorr or the Ocala National Forest is a priority. However, it is strongly recommended that potential visitors come prepared for a potentially high tick population by bringing and using effective tick repellent. Additionally, given the concerns raised about bathroom cleanliness, it might be prudent to inquire about the current status of these facilities before making a reservation or to be prepared with personal hygiene supplies.
In conclusion, Lake Dorr Campground offers a location near natural attractions in Altoona, Florida, making it a potential option for local camping enthusiasts. While one review noted clean showers, another provided a contrasting view of overall bathroom cleanliness. Furthermore, the reported significant tick problem is a serious consideration for all potential visitors. Local users should carefully weigh these factors and consider seeking additional information about the campground's current conditions and amenities before planning their camping trip to Lake Dorr Campground.

Lake Dorr Campground Reviews
Good lil campground. Bathroom very clean and showers. Only bad thing is lots of ticks, caught a few crawling on me and I didn't go walking through the woods, just right there at tent site, so definitely include off repellent in supplies other than that it's a great camping spot.
Mar 05, 2025 · Leila PhillipsThe campground itself is nice. The bathrooms are dirty. We were here for 14 days and they didn’t clean the bathrooms. They turned the faucet on in the bathroom to flood the floor with water. That’s how they cleaned. Toilets were filthy. The people that take care of this campground should either be fired or go through a training course.
Jan 16, 2024 · Denise VanceSites were a good size. We were able to get 2 right next to each other. Campsite was clean and bathrooms were as well. Good alternative to the springs in the area if you can't get a site there.
May 21, 2024 · Scott DwyerThis is a nice, clean and well maintained campground. The price is great. There were two issues. First and most importantly the road throughout the campground is full of pot holes. Be very careful if you walk on the road as you can badly twist your ankle. Second there is a lot of noise from the nearby highway and trailer park.
Mar 06, 2024 · Scott MooreThe Campground is great. The directions/address is incorrect 5024 Dorrwood Lane is correct but there are two Dorrwood Lane's one of them is a trailer parkBoth roads run parallel to each other
