Cooperstown Family Campground Introduce
For local residents in New York State and visitors drawn to the Cooperstown area, known for its rich history and attractions, Cooperstown Family Campground, located at 230 Petkewec Rd, Cooperstown, NY, presents a welcoming option under the "camping near me" category. This campground stands out for its natural setting, the friendliness of its owners, and unique offerings that cater to families.
The environment of Cooperstown Family Campground is characterized by its natural beauty, featuring at least two ponds that contribute to the scenic landscape. One reviewer specifically enjoyed a tent site situated "up on a higher bank between the two ponds," indicating that some campsites offer elevated views and a sense of being integrated into the natural topography. The presence of ponds not only enhances the visual appeal but also creates a unique auditory environment. The reviewer fondly recalled the "magic" of the night, filled with the "happy low level noises" of various types of frogs all around, suggesting an immersive experience in nature's sounds.
The location of the tent site on a higher bank also provided a practical advantage during hot and humid weather, as it allowed for catching a "slight breeze," enhancing comfort during the setup process. This detail suggests that the campground's layout takes advantage of natural airflow, potentially making even warm days more bearable. Furthermore, the reviewer noted that their loop had only one other tent on the opposite side, contributing to a feeling of significant privacy during their stay. This aspect of spaciousness and privacy can be a major draw for campers seeking a more secluded experience within a campground setting.
A notable feature of Cooperstown Family Campground, as highlighted by one reviewer, is the exceptional friendliness of the owners, Dwayne and Julie. Described as "the friendliest owners of a campground I’ve met," their hospitality seems to create a welcoming and positive atmosphere for guests. This personal touch can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, making visitors feel more like welcomed guests than just occupants of a campsite.
Adding to the unique appeal of the campground is "Dwayne’s baseball camp," mentioned by the same reviewer. This suggests a special offering that combines the traditional camping experience with the opportunity for baseball instruction, potentially creating a memorable family experience for those interested in the sport. The reviewer notes that it provides a "family experience with top notch instruction," indicating a high quality of coaching within a family-oriented context. This feature could be a significant draw for families visiting the Cooperstown area, particularly those with children involved in baseball.
However, one important consideration raised by a reviewer concerns the quality of the water at the campground. While the office states that the water is potable, the reviewer found it to be "really gross," describing it as "a bit discolored and highly chlorinated." Consequently, they strongly recommend that campers plan to bring their own water for drinking and cooking. The reviewer did note that the water was acceptable for hand washing, indicating that while it meets basic safety standards, the aesthetic and taste might be less than desirable. This is a crucial piece of information for prospective campers to consider when planning their stay.
The reviews provide limited information about other services and amenities typically found at campgrounds. There is no mention of RV sites, cabin rentals, restroom facilities (beyond the availability of water for hand washing), showers, laundry facilities, or recreational areas such as playgrounds or communal spaces. The focus of the reviews is primarily on the tent camping experience, the natural environment, the friendliness of the owners, and the unique baseball camp offering.
Given the lack of comprehensive information about all available services, local users considering Cooperstown Family Campground should be prepared to inquire directly about specific amenities relevant to their needs. This might include questions about the types of campsites available, the presence and quality of restroom and shower facilities, the availability of hookups for RVs (if applicable), and any other services that are important for their camping style.
Similarly, the provided reviews do not contain any specific promotional information, such as discounts for longer stays, seasonal rates, or packages that might include the baseball camp. Local users interested in potential deals or special offers should contact the campground directly to inquire about current promotions or any bundled options that might be available, especially for families interested in Dwayne's baseball camp.
In conclusion, Cooperstown Family Campground offers a unique and welcoming "camping near me" experience characterized by its scenic environment with ponds, spacious and private tent sites, the exceptional friendliness of its owners, and the distinctive offering of Dwayne's baseball camp. The natural sounds of the frogs and the potential for a gentle breeze on elevated sites add to the charm. However, prospective campers should be aware of the reported issues with the drinking water and plan accordingly by bringing their own supply. For those seeking a family-oriented campground with a personal touch and potential for baseball-related activities in the Cooperstown area, Cooperstown Family Campground is worth considering. Contacting them directly at (607) 293-7766 or +1 607-293-7766 would be advisable to gather more details about amenities and to make reservations.

Cooperstown Family Campground Reviews
We loved our stay! Our tent site was up on a higher bank between the two ponds. We found a flat spot that would drain if there was rain. Our setup day was very hot and humid and so we loved the slight breeze we could catch from our site. At night it was magic - the sounds of many types of frogs making happy low level noises all around us. There was only one other tent at the other side of the loop so our stay felt very private. One note - the water is really gross - I recommend planning for that by bringing in your own for drinking/cooking. The office says it's potable and I believe it, but it's a bit discolored and highly chlorinated. Good for hand washing! Thanks so much!
Jun 25, 2024 · oh maThe friendliest owners of a campground I’ve met. Dwayne and Julie are the best. And Dwayne’s baseball camp provides a family experience wit top notch instruction.
Jul 02, 2024 · Alan RogersWe stayed here on a quick mini trip to Cooperstown NY. Location was great. It was off season so we had our pick of multiple sites. Lots of trees, 2 smaller ponds, and very clean, well-kept property. Appears to be a section in the back that may be seasonal stays. Did not checkout bathhouse or showers so can’t rate them. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. We paid $55/night and stayed two nights. Check-in was at 2 pm and check-out is 11 am. We had an excursion planned on our last morning that we needed a 1 pm check-out and the management was very agreeable (especially I think since it was off season and a week day and few campers). We had W/E/S. They have some gorgeous tent sites for those of you who prefer tent camping. Definitely would stay again. Close to activities in Milford, Cooperstown, and brew pubs.
Sep 15, 2022 · Debbie CashmareckMy family and I stayed here in our camper for over a month while I was working in the area. The camp is very quiet, clean and well kept which is exactly what we were hoping for. The owners are very pleasant and take great pride in the cleanliness of their camp along with making visitors feel welcome and comfortable. There’s a nice pool across from the office which is kept locked until requested ( safety measure ) The owners are never far away. They are very nice people. If we are in the area again we would stay again. Thank you
Sep 02, 2022 · Gregory McnameeMy wife is a travel nurse and we stayed here with our dog for the full season (May-October). We absolutely loved it. Chris, Tamara and their family are outstanding hosts and wonderful people. They were extremely accommodating and made us feel right at home immediately. The property is beautiful and the accommodations often exceeded our needs. just under a 15 min drive to town, even less for groceries. This really is a family friendly park, and it was a welcome change to our standard long term stay parking lot parks that we have run into across the US. If we come back through Cooperstown, this is without a doubt our first choice.
