Cabin Colony Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Laurens, New York area? Consider Cabin Colony, situated within the beautiful Gilbert Lake State Park in Laurens, NY 13796, USA. Based on customer reviews, Cabin Colony offers a unique camping cabin experience nestled in a gorgeous natural environment. For local users seeking a woodsy retreat with the added comfort of cabin accommodation, this could be an ideal choice.
The environment surrounding Cabin Colony is consistently praised. One reviewer describes the nature and woodsy areas as "just gorgeous!" highlighting them as "little slices of heaven." Many cabins are located beside or behind creeks, offering a tranquil and picturesque setting. The area features a mix of trees, providing ample shade, perfect for a relaxing getaway immersed in nature. If you appreciate a serene, wooded environment with the soothing sounds of a nearby creek, Cabin Colony might be the "camping near me" you've been searching for.
In terms of the cabins themselves, reviews indicate a range in their condition. As Gilbert Lake State Park is in the process of refurbishing the cabins, you can expect some to be "fine for a state park" while others are described as "really nice for a state park!" This suggests that the level of comfort and modernity may vary depending on the specific cabin you choose. A significant advantage noted by a reviewer is that some, if not all, of the cabins feature "bathrooms inside," which is considered a "huge plus" for many campers seeking more convenience than traditional camping facilities offer.
Regarding services and features, one reviewer mentions a "reasonable walk down to the beach (and concession stand!) and the trail around Gilbert Lake, too!" This indicates that staying at Cabin Colony provides easy access to the recreational amenities of Gilbert Lake State Park, such as swimming at the beach, enjoying refreshments at the concession stand, and exploring the scenic trail around the lake. This accessibility adds value to the cabin stay, offering opportunities for outdoor activities and relaxation beyond the cabin itself.
Another important piece of information from a review is that the cabins are described as "very rustic." This suggests that while they provide shelter, they may have a more basic and traditional feel. The same reviewer also advises, "remember to bring your own sheets and cook ware." This implies that bedding and cooking utensils are not typically provided within the cabins, so campers should come prepared with these essentials. Understanding the rustic nature of the cabins and the need to bring your own supplies is crucial for planning your stay at Cabin Colony.
A potential consideration mentioned in a review is the limited cell phone service. Specifically, it's noted that there is "no service (or next to none) for Verizon cell phones" in the Cabin Colony area. While one reviewer didn't mind being disconnected during vacation, they did express a desire to occasionally check in with family without having to leave the area to find service. If reliable cell phone connectivity is important to you, this is something to be aware of when considering Cabin Colony for your "camping near me" experience.
The ongoing refurbishment of more cabins suggests that the facilities at Cabin Colony are being upgraded, which could lead to an even more enjoyable experience for future visitors. For local users interested in a cabin stay that combines a beautiful natural setting with varying levels of cabin comfort (some including indoor bathrooms) and access to Gilbert Lake State Park's amenities, Cabin Colony is worth considering.
To get the most accurate and up-to-date information, including details about specific cabin amenities, availability, and any potential promotional offers, it would be best to contact Gilbert Lake State Park directly. You can inquire about the different types of cabins, whether they have indoor bathrooms, and what is included with your rental. Asking about the current status of cabin renovations might also help you choose a cabin that best suits your preferences.
In conclusion, Cabin Colony at Gilbert Lake State Park near Laurens, NY, offers a "camping near me" option that blends the charm of cabin living with the beauty of a natural, wooded environment. With some cabins offering the convenience of indoor bathrooms and easy access to the lake, beach, and trails, it's a compelling choice for those seeking a rustic yet comfortable outdoor getaway. Just remember to bring your own sheets and cookware, and be aware of potential limitations with Verizon cell phone service. Contact Gilbert Lake State Park for more details and to book your stay at Cabin Colony.

Cabin Colony Reviews
We love the cabin area at Gilbert Lake State Park! The cabins themselves are varying degrees of "nice", as they are getting them refurbished, ranging from "fine for a state park" to really nice for a state park! Having bathrooms inside the cabins is a huge plus for most anyone! And the nature and woodsy areas around these cabins is just gorgeous! Little slices of heaven, many with creeks running behind or beside them, mix of trees, lots of shade, etc. Only downside I can think of for the Cabin Colony is no service (or next to none) for Verizon cell phones. I don't care to be on my phone much at all over vacation BUT I do like to be able to check in with folks back home without driving somewhere for service. Overall, we love this area and it looks like a lot more cabins are in the process of being redone now! Reasonable walk down to the beach (and concession stand!) and the trail around Gilbert Lake, too!
