Cottonwood Patch Campground (Horse Camp) Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" and looking for a unique and tranquil outdoor experience? Look no further than Cottonwood Patch Campground (Horse Camp), nestled at 5000 Old Hwy 2, Cisco, GA 30708, USA. This campground offers a distinctive opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, particularly if you are an equestrian enthusiast. Based on feedback from fellow campers, Cottonwood Patch Campground provides a serene and relatively uncrowded environment, making it an ideal escape for those seeking peace and quiet.
The natural scenery surrounding Cottonwood Patch Campground is described as beautiful, offering a picturesque backdrop for your camping adventure. However, it's important to note that this campground is primarily oriented towards horsemen. This focus shapes the facilities and the overall atmosphere of the location. If you are traveling with horses, you will find this campground particularly well-suited to your needs.
In terms of amenities, Cottonwood Patch Campground offers a more primitive camping experience. According to visitor reviews, there is no cell service available, nor are there provisions for power or running water. This aspect contributes to the campground's quiet and secluded ambiance, allowing for a true disconnect from the hustle and bustle of modern life. If you appreciate a more rustic and back-to-nature style of camping, Cottonwood Patch Campground might be exactly what you're looking for.
While the campground itself doesn't offer specific attractions or organized activities, the surrounding natural environment provides opportunities for exploration. One reviewer mentioned an ankle-deep river, suggesting a place to cool off and enjoy the water. The primary draw of Cottonwood Patch Campground appears to be its peaceful setting and its suitability for those camping with horses, providing direct access to trails and a supportive environment for equestrian activities.
Considering the "camping near me" category, Cottonwood Patch Campground stands out as a unique option for local users, especially those who own horses. It offers a different kind of camping experience compared to more developed campgrounds. If your priority is tranquility, beautiful natural surroundings, and the ability to camp with your horses, then this campground warrants your attention. The ease of access, as noted by one reviewer ("Easy come and go"), adds to the convenience for those traveling with animals and equipment.
For those without horses, the experience might be different. One reviewer explicitly stated, "...this place is definitely not for people without horses." This suggests that the primary appeal and the available facilities are geared towards equestrian campers. While the quiet and pretty environment might still be attractive to some seeking a very basic and off-grid camping experience, the lack of amenities like cell service, power, and running water, coupled with the focus on horse-related activities, makes it less suitable for general campers looking for more conventional facilities or recreational activities beyond enjoying the natural scenery.
In summary, Cottonwood Patch Campground (Horse Camp) offers a peaceful and scenic camping experience in Cisco, Georgia. Its key features include a non-crowded atmosphere, beautiful nature, and a specific focus on accommodating horsemen. Campers should be aware that it operates as a primitive campground with no cell service, power, or running water. The primary activity appears to be enjoying the natural surroundings and, for those with horses, utilizing the campground as a base for riding and exploring. If you are a local user in the "camping near me" category, and particularly if you are involved in equestrian activities, Cottonwood Patch Campground provides a unique opportunity for a quiet and nature-filled getaway. It's a place to disconnect and immerse yourself in the tranquility of the Georgia landscape with your equine companions.

It provides a basic yet beautiful setting for those who value peace, natural beauty, and the company of their horses. While it may not offer the amenities of more developed campgrounds, its unique focus and serene environment make it a noteworthy option for a specific segment of the camping community.
We encourage local users who are horse owners and seeking a quiet camping experience close to nature to consider Cottonwood Patch Campground. Cottonwood Patch Campground (Horse Camp) Reviews
Great place to camp, not very crowded. Easy come and go. Really all we were looking for!
Dec 02, 2024 · Eric LippertBeautiful nature scenery. This camp ground is more for horseman . No cell service, no power or running water. However it was very quiet and pretty. No attractions or activity’s to do other than go to the ankle deep river. I enjoyed my stay but this place is definitely not for people without horses.

Apr 11, 2025 · Muddy RoadsUnless you own horses, like biting flies, and enjoy anything but the peaceful getaway you wanted, avoid this campground.Seriously, I don't understand why they don't just call this "Cottonwood Patch Horse Camp" and stop misleading people. The flies here are some of the worst I've experienced and I've been in alpine areas when large flies are biting and buzzing. This was something else. The creek that runs through here is sluggish and and pools in many areas which provides perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes and other lovely insects. The campground itself is overgrown and lacking facilities. It is in no way characteristic of the north GA mountains - it looks like it would be more fitting behind a dollar general in rural south GA.The Forest Service has practically abandoned this entire area, as evidenced by the poorly maintained roads, dilapidated and/or missing facilities, overgrown campsites, and overall sad look of the place. If you're looking to camp in the area, don't. The Forest Service has turned it over to the hunters and horse riders to use and abuse. There are signs for another FS campground just north of this one in Tennessee, don't bother, though the signs remain, the campground has been blocked off by boulders and is totally overgrown and abandoned. My guess is they leave the signs up because they don't care - it's sadly characteristic of the whole area.
Apr 23, 2018 · Joseph CrawleyI saw plenty of people use this camp with horses and have yet seen any litter or horse manure about. Well maintained by everyone it seems! Beautiful scenery, outstanding river access and fishing! Never saw so many fireflies!! Miss Susie approves!! Toilet is chancy, I figure that's more due to heavy use and abuse and service truck accessible. Been there a few times and will camp rhere again soon! Lots of trials for horse or foot.
