Crooked Creek Recreation Area Introduce
Looking for 'camping near me' that offers more than just a place to pitch a tent or park your RV? Crooked Creek Recreation Area, situated at 1300 Sandy Beach Dr, Ville Platte, LA 70586, presents itself as a local option with a variety of features centered around a lake environment. This recreation area aims to provide a space for families and outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy nature and engage in different activities.
According to one positive review, Crooked Creek Recreation Area is a beloved destination for family camping trips. The presence of a loading dock suggests that the lake is a significant feature, allowing visitors to bring and use their boats or jet skis. This would be a major draw for those interested in watersports and exploring the lake. The review also mentions the existence of a few playgrounds, indicating that the area caters to families with children. However, it's noted that some of the playground equipment is broken, which is something to be aware of for families planning to utilize these facilities.
Regarding essential amenities, the reviewer mentioned the presence of working bathrooms, although they were not described as the cleanest. This suggests that while basic sanitation needs are met, visitors might expect a more rustic experience in terms of restroom facilities. On a more positive note, the beach area was described as being a nice size and well-maintained, with daily cleaning being observed. A beach would offer opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing by the water, enhancing the recreational appeal of the area.
However, it is crucial to acknowledge a severely negative review detailing an alleged incident of racism. This review describes a deeply disturbing experience where the visitor, a young Black female, claims she and her family were "banned for life" following an escalated situation with the manager. The reviewer alleges being unfairly accused of speeding, yelled at, and having the police called on her while waiting for her family to arrive for her birthday. She also states that she was denied a refund and never got to spend any time in the park. This is a serious accusation that potential visitors should consider. It is important to recognize that this review presents one individual's experience and perspective.
Considering these contrasting reviews, local users exploring 'camping near me' will need to weigh the potential benefits of the lake access, playgrounds, and beach against the reported issues with facility cleanliness and the very serious allegation of racist behavior by the management. It is essential to approach this information with caution and consider that individual experiences can vary significantly.
The provided information does not offer specific details about the types of campsites available (e.g., tent-only, RV sites with hookups), the availability of other amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, or laundry facilities. Information about potential hiking trails, swimming areas beyond the beach, or other recreational activities within the recreation area is also absent. Furthermore, there are no details regarding reservation procedures, pet policies, or specific rules and regulations for Crooked Creek Recreation Area.
Similarly, there is no mention of any promotional offers, seasonal rates, or group camping options that might be available. Details about accessibility for individuals with disabilities are also not provided in the given text. To obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the services and features currently offered, as well as to inquire about the management's response to the serious allegations raised in the negative review, it would be advisable to contact Crooked Creek Recreation Area directly using the provided phone number: (337) 599-2661 or the mobile number: +1 337-599-2661.
In conclusion, Crooked Creek Recreation Area offers a lake-centered environment with potential for boating, swimming at a maintained beach, and family activities with playgrounds. However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported issues concerning the cleanliness of bathrooms and, most importantly, the serious allegation of racist behavior by the management. Local users searching for 'camping near me' are strongly encouraged to seek further information, potentially by contacting the recreation area directly and looking for additional reviews or information online, to make a well-informed decision about whether this location meets their needs and values.

Crooked Creek Recreation Area Reviews
We LOVE crooked creek. We just recently went on our annual family camping trip there and had so much fun. There's a loading dock for you to bring your boats or jetskis. There's a few playgrounds, but some of them have broken equipment. The bathrooms aren't the cleanest, but HEY, THEY HAVE WORKING BATHROOMS! The beach is a nice size, and I noticed they've been keeping it very well taken care of and being cleaned daily. Highly recommend this place!
Aug 27, 2024 · Destiny LeJeunethis place is so incredibly racist. my family and i were "banned for life" in a horribly escalated situation that absolutely did not need to happen. the manager is a bully, a racist, he refused to give us our money back (25$ while every other lake was free). he called the police on me alone, a young black female as he YELLED in my face about outrageous accusations of "speeding", telling me to leave while i was waiting for my family to arrive for my birthday party and i never got to spend a single minute in the park before this manager and those racist police officers ganged up on me and my family.
Apr 20, 2025 · Aniyah JonesTried this place out after going to Indian Creek for 7 years. Very poor! Super messy. No grills. Bathroom was is 1/4 mile from the public beach which was tiny and full of people and others driving around blaring music in their cars and not at all peaceful. Misbehaving kids starting fights at the beach and near the bathrooms too. Plus we had to pay $5 per person instead of $5 a car at the other place that is so much nicer. No thanks !
Apr 19, 2025 · MYKLE ANNE MThe only thing bad was that the shower was out of order. I hope they fix the small things that are wrong. It's a very nice place.
Dec 13, 2024 · Ronnie CollinsWe like the campground. But beware that the roads getting there are bad. We have stayed there several times and had good experiences. On our resent trip we did have issues. First the 50 amp plug was installed upside down which gave issues with our EMS. They promptly came and fixed it when we asked. But our main issue was when we came back late one night and they had changed the gate code without letting us know. Thankfully our son in law knew someone to call and was able to get the new code for us. Hopefully person who changed the code without making campers aware will not do that again!
