Wasatch Cache National Forest, Forest Rd 145, Heber City, UT 84032, USA

4.0
Great host and nice and spacious campsites. I expected pit toilets but they were fully functional plumbing and very clean. The host at the time had firewood for sale which was nice since there aren’t any amenities this far out.I didn’t book a reservation but saw that there were a lot of first come first serve sites we took a chance on coming out on a Saturday and had a few to choose from. The dirt road was a little rough getting out to the area but paved at the actual campground. An easy walk over to the water but not right next to the water. - Sam Brown

Currant Creek Campground Introduce

For local users in the Heber City, Utah, area and those searching for “camping near me” within a natural setting, Currant Creek Campground, located in Wasatch Cache National Forest off Forest Rd 145, Heber City, UT 84032, USA, offers a camping experience amidst the beauty of the national forest. They can be contacted at (385) 273-1100 or via mobile phone at +1 385-273-1100.

Based on the available customer reviews, Currant Creek Campground presents a mix of positive aspects and some considerations for potential visitors. One reviewer highlights the “great host” and the “nice and spacious campsites,” which are significant factors contributing to a pleasant camping experience. A notable surprise for this reviewer was the presence of “fully functional plumbing” in the toilets, which were also described as “very clean,” exceeding the expectation of pit toilets often found in more remote campgrounds. The availability of firewood for sale by the host at the time of their visit was also appreciated, especially given the campground's location “this far out” from other amenities.

Another reviewer points out the availability of “a lot of first come first serve sites,” which can be advantageous for those who prefer not to make reservations or who decide to camp on short notice. They shared their experience of finding a few sites to choose from even when arriving on a Saturday, suggesting that while the campground may be popular, the first-come-first-served system can still provide opportunities for spontaneous camping trips.

Regarding the journey to the campground, one reviewer mentions that the “dirt road was a little rough getting out to the area but paved at the actual campground.” This is practical information for visitors, advising caution on the approach road while assuring a smoother experience within the campground itself. The same reviewer also notes that the water (presumably Currant Creek Reservoir) is an “easy walk over” but not directly adjacent to the campsites.

However, another reviewer shares some concerns based on their family camping trip, which included non-camping relatives and children. While they found the sites to be “okay,” they noted a potentially problematic layout with the “fire pits so close to the tables that we could not put up a canopy without risk of sparks creating holes in it.” This suggests that the placement of these amenities might require careful consideration when setting up camp, especially if using a canopy for shade or weather protection. This reviewer also mentions that “the sites did not provide much shade,” which could be a significant factor during hot summer months. Additionally, they felt that the pictures they had seen gave a misleading impression of proximity to the reservoir, stating that “in reality isn't true” and that while walking is possible, “most people would probably drive so that they could fish,” indicating that direct access to the water from the campsites might be limited or less convenient than perceived.

Considering these reviews, Currant Creek Campground offers spacious campsites and clean, plumbed toilets, which are definite advantages. The availability of first-come-first-served sites provides flexibility for campers. The host appears to be helpful, and firewood might be available for purchase on-site. However, potential visitors should be prepared for a potentially rough dirt road leading to the paved campground. Shade at the campsites might be limited, and the proximity to Currant Creek Reservoir might not be as close as some images suggest, potentially requiring a short walk or drive to access the water for fishing or other activities.

In terms of environment, Currant Creek Campground is located within the Wasatch Cache National Forest, suggesting a natural and potentially scenic setting. The proximity to Currant Creek Reservoir offers opportunities for fishing and other water-related activities, although direct access from all campsites might not be immediate. The mention of a dirt road leading to the campground indicates a more rustic and potentially remote environment, which might appeal to those seeking a more secluded camping experience away from urban areas.

The services mentioned include a helpful camp host, the availability of firewood for sale (at least at the time of one review), and clean, plumbed toilet facilities. The first-come-first-served site availability can also be considered a service that provides flexibility for campers. However, the lack of other amenities “this far out” suggests that campers should be self-sufficient in terms of supplies and other needs.

Features of the campground include spacious campsites, clean toilets with plumbing, fire pits (though their proximity to tables might be a concern), and access to Currant Creek Reservoir (via a walk or short drive). The natural environment of the Wasatch Cache National Forest is a primary feature, offering opportunities for outdoor recreation. The availability of first-come-first-served sites is a notable feature for those without reservations.

No promotional information is provided in the available reviews. Campgrounds within national forests often have standard fees per night, and discounts might be available for longer stays or with certain passes (e.g., America the Beautiful Pass). Local users interested in Currant Creek Campground should check the official website of the Wasatch Cache National Forest or contact the relevant ranger district for information on camping fees, reservations (if any are available in addition to first-come-first-served sites), rules and regulations, and any potential discounts or special offers.

For local users searching for “camping near me” who appreciate spacious sites, cleaner-than-expected toilet facilities, and the flexibility of first-come-first-served options within a national forest setting, Currant Creek Campground is worth considering. However, they should also be aware of the potential limitations regarding shade at the campsites, the possible layout issue with fire pits and tables, and the need to walk or drive to access Currant Creek Reservoir. Checking the current conditions of the access road and bringing necessary supplies due to the remote location is also advisable. Contacting the Wasatch Cache National Forest or the campground management directly for the most up-to-date information on fees, reservations, amenities, and any specific guidelines is recommended to ensure a well-prepared and enjoyable camping trip.
