Looking for a convenient and budget-friendly camping option near you along the US-395 corridor in California? Diaz Lake Campground, located in Lone Pine at US-395, CA 93545, offers an accessible stopover or a destination for those seeking basic RV and tent camping. As you explore options under the category 'Camping Near Me,' Diaz Lake presents itself as an affordable choice with scenic views and a friendly atmosphere. You can reach them at (760) 876-5656 or +1 760-876-5656 for inquiries.
The environment surrounding Diaz Lake Campground is characterized by its convenient location directly off the US-395 highway. This accessibility makes it an ideal stop for travelers en route to other destinations, as one reviewer noted using it for an overnight stay on their way to Tahoe. The campground also boasts "great views," suggesting a picturesque setting that campers can enjoy. For those with an interest in aviation, its proximity to China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station offers a unique feature: occasional "great flyovers" by military aircraft, which one Naval Aviation enthusiast particularly appreciated. This adds an element of unexpected interest to the environment of Diaz Lake Campground.
Diaz Lake Campground caters to both RV and tent campers. It explicitly offers "RV (no hookup) and tent sites," indicating that while it provides parking or designated areas for recreational vehicles, it does not offer full utility hookups such as electricity, water, and sewer connections at the individual RV sites. Tent sites are also available for those preferring a more traditional camping experience. This dual offering makes it suitable for a range of camping preferences, from those traveling in self-contained RVs to those setting up tents.
One of the most attractive features of Diaz Lake Campground is its affordability. The nightly rate mentioned in a review is "$14/night." This price point makes it a significantly more budget-friendly option compared to a nearby campground located within one mile that charges "$75 or 85/night" for full hookup RV sites. This stark contrast highlights Diaz Lake as an excellent choice for campers who do not require full hookups and are looking for a cost-effective place to stay. The value for money was explicitly acknowledged by a visitor who stated, "We'll worth the 14 bucks."
The staff at Diaz Lake Campground are described as "super friendly" by a reviewer. Positive interactions with campground staff can greatly enhance the overall camping experience, contributing to a welcoming and helpful atmosphere. This aspect suggests that visitors can expect a pleasant reception and assistance during their stay.
However, there is a noted drawback regarding the spacing of the campsites. One reviewer mentioned that "Sites too close together." This could potentially impact the sense of privacy and spaciousness for campers, especially if the campground is fully occupied. However, the same reviewer also noted that during their Thursday and Friday night stay, they had "no neighbors," suggesting that during less busy times, this might not be an issue. It's advisable for potential visitors to be aware of the possibility of close proximity to other campers, especially during peak seasons or weekends.
Considering the information available, Diaz Lake Campground offers a convenient location right off a major highway (US-395), making it easily accessible for travelers. Its affordability, particularly at $14 per night, is a significant advantage for budget-conscious campers. The availability of both RV (without hookups) and tent sites caters to different camping styles. The scenic views and the potential for unique flyovers due to the proximity of China Lake add to its appeal. Furthermore, the friendly staff contribute to a positive camping experience.
On the other hand, potential drawbacks include the lack of RV hookups for those who require them and the possibility of campsites being close together, which might affect privacy when the campground is busy. For RVers needing full hookups, the review points to another campground within a mile, albeit at a significantly higher cost. Tent campers and RVers who do not require hookups will find Diaz Lake to be a much more economical option.
In terms of promotional information, the most compelling aspect is the price point of $14 per night, which is explicitly mentioned as being significantly lower than a nearby full-hookup campground. This affordability, combined with the convenient location and scenic views, serves as a strong incentive for budget-minded travelers and those looking for a simple and accessible camping spot. The mention of friendly staff also adds to the positive image of the campground.
It is important to note that the reviews do not provide details about other potential amenities at Diaz Lake Campground, such as restrooms, water sources, fire pits, or picnic tables. Campers should be prepared for potentially basic facilities given the low cost. If such amenities are crucial to your camping experience, it might be wise to inquire about them directly when contacting the campground.
In conclusion, for local users searching for 'Camping Near Me' along US-395 near Lone Pine, Diaz Lake Campground offers a convenient and highly affordable option for both RV (no hookup) and tent camping. The scenic views and friendly staff are additional positives. While the campsites might be close together and full RV hookups are not available, the $14 nightly rate presents a compelling value proposition. The occasional flyovers from nearby China Lake offer a unique and interesting environmental feature for aviation enthusiasts. If you are looking for a budget-friendly stopover or a simple camping experience with great views in the Lone Pine area, Diaz Lake Campground is worth considering. Contact them at (760) 876-5656 to learn more or to plan your stay.

Diaz Lake Reviews
We stopped here on the way to Tohoe for one night. Very convenient location, off 395.They have RV (no hookup) and tent sites.$14/night.If you want a full hookup, there is another campground within one mile. But you need to pay $75 or 85/night.
Aug 04, 2024 · asobouyocaGreat views. As a Naval Aviation buff, got some great flyover due to proximity of China Lake. Super friendly staff. Sites too close together, but we spent Thurs & Fri nights with no neighbors. We'll worth the 14 bucks.
Sep 09, 2023 · Bob HarkerWe were on a long 5 hr road trip with no air conditioning and it was very windy the whole way. We saw this lake on the way to Lone Pine, and flipped a u turn to go check it out. Glad we did! Nice little lake/camping ground. We all put on our bathing suits and jumped in! The water was perfect. It cooled us down so we weren't all grumpy any more! This lake had nice picnic benches, a small swimming beach, I didn't see a bathroom..but I didn't look too hard. There is a playground, and the views of the mountains are amazing.
May 05, 2021 · Sarah LouiseWhen camping there April 22nd through 28th 2019. The campground is very rustic and I had made reservations at a random site not knowing where I was going to Camp. After getting up there and looking around I found the gem of all campsites there it's number 44. There are numerous trees plenty of shade as well as your own Cove to fish from whenever you want as well as Wade In The Water. Now you do have to park about 30 feet from where you set up camp but it is well worth the walk. When we went the water was supposed to be on but the entire part did not have water due to maintenance. The bathrooms are about a hundred and fifty yard walk from where we were camping although the trade-off for the site we were at was well worth it.
May 22, 2020 · Damian PulidoThe staff is so nice.. Loved the moonrise from the mountains, water and toilet scattred all over the campground! Cheapest in the area as well! Would love to come back!
