We do not camp here but mainly drive up to swim and fish for the afternoon. There are multiple swim holes and fish are stocked through early summer. You can enjoy a picnic here or hike a ways to find your own secluded hole. Keep in mind this place is popular in summer but if you arrive early you have a pick of spots. The fishing can be fair to incredible depending on the time of year. I have caught some rather large brook trout in here as well as brown trout and rainbow trout are the main stay. I suggest bringing lifejackets because some holes are rather deep. - Fishing Paradise California

Dinkey Creek Campground Introduce

For those seeking an immersive escape into the natural splendor of California’s Sierra National Forest, Dinkey Creek Campground stands as a prime choice among "Camping Near Me" destinations. Located at 53001 Dinkey Creek Rd, Shaver Lake, CA 93664, this popular campground offers a perfect blend of rustic charm and essential amenities, making it a beloved spot for families, anglers, hikers, and anyone looking to reconnect with the great outdoors.

Environment: A Forested Riverside Retreat

Dinkey Creek Campground is a true gem, spread out along the scenic banks of its namesake, Dinkey Creek. The campground is enveloped by a thick, mature forest of majestic Ponderosa pines and cedars, providing abundant shade and a classic high-country setting. This dense tree cover not only offers a refreshing canopy but also contributes to the tranquil atmosphere that campers cherish.

The star attraction of the environment is undoubtedly Dinkey Creek itself. The creek is known for its multiple swim holes, including popular spots like "The Slicks" and "Honeymoon Pool," both of which feature natural pools carved out of granite. These inviting waters are perfect for a refreshing dip on a warm summer day, as highlighted by visitors who frequent the area just for swimming. The presence of the creek also means excellent opportunities for fishing, with the water being regularly stocked with trout, particularly through early summer. Anglers report catching various species, including brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout, with some even boasting "rather large brook trout."

While the campground is popular, especially during the summer, its layout ensures that campsites are "distributed in a way where you are not on top of each other," providing a sense of privacy and space. Early arrival during peak season is advised to secure a preferred spot. The surrounding Sierra National Forest, situated on the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada, is famous for its breathtaking mountain scenery, diverse terrain, and rich natural resources, making Dinkey Creek a gateway to extensive wilderness exploration.
