Dirks Resort Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around Madison, South Dakota (57042) searching for "camping near me," Dirks Resort Campground, located at 452A Ave, Madison, SD 57042, presents a local option with contrasting feedback from recent visitors. You can contact them at (605) 270-2151 or +1 605-270-2151 for inquiries. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of Dirks Resort Campground based on the available reviews, highlighting both the positive and negative aspects for prospective local campers.
As a potential choice within the "camping near me" category in the Madison area, Dirks Resort Campground offers a small, intimate setting, as noted by one reviewer. However, it's crucial for local users to consider the differing experiences reported, particularly regarding the campground owner and management practices, to form a balanced expectation.
Environment:
The reviews provide limited information about the specific natural environment of Dirks Resort Campground. One reviewer describes it as a "small campground," suggesting a potentially more intimate and less sprawling layout compared to larger campgrounds. The mention of a "family feel" might imply a close-knit community atmosphere among some residents or long-term stayers. However, there are no details regarding the presence of trees, water bodies, or the overall landscape of the campground.
Local users interested in specific environmental features, such as shade, proximity to lakes or rivers, or the general scenic quality, would need to seek additional information, possibly by contacting the campground directly or looking for other online mentions or resources that might provide a more detailed description of the surroundings.
Services and Amenities:
The two available reviews offer contrasting perspectives on the management and rules at Dirks Resort Campground, which can be considered aspects of the services provided.
- Owner Interaction: One reviewer praises the owner, Krissa, as "amazing," particularly for those in a "first campground permanent residence experience." This suggests that for some, the owner is supportive and helpful, contributing to a positive living situation.
- Inconsistent Rules and Communication: Conversely, another reviewer expresses significant dissatisfaction, claiming that the owner enforces rules inconsistently, applying them to campers but not to her own children or friends. This reviewer also criticizes the communication as "horrible" and alleges being unfairly evicted ("kicked you out for absolutely no reason") based on a personal dislike from the owner. The issue of not being allowed to improve one's spot with a "little gravel" further suggests potentially strict and perhaps inconsistently applied rules regarding campsite modifications.
Beyond these comments on management, the reviews do not provide details about other standard campground amenities such as:
- Types of campsites (tent, RV, hookups).
- Restroom and shower facilities.
- Laundry facilities.
- Wi-Fi access.
- Recreational areas (playground, picnic areas, etc.).
- Waste disposal.
Local users will need to inquire specifically about these amenities if they are important for their camping experience.
Features and Activities:
The limited reviews do not explicitly mention any specific features or activities available at Dirks Resort Campground. The "family feel" mentioned by one reviewer might suggest a community-oriented atmosphere where residents or long-term campers interact socially. However, there is no information about organized activities, recreational facilities, or nearby attractions that might be accessible to campers.
Given the lack of information, local users interested in specific activities (e.g., hiking, fishing, swimming) would need to determine if the campground itself offers these or if they are available in the surrounding Madison area and easily accessible from the campground.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal:
With such limited and conflicting feedback, it is difficult to discern a clear promotional message for Dirks Resort Campground. The appeal to local users searching for "camping near me" might primarily be its location in the Madison area, offering a nearby option for those seeking a campground, potentially for short-term stays or even as a "permanent residence experience" as mentioned by one reviewer.
The "small campground with a family feel" could be a positive selling point for those who prefer a more intimate and community-oriented environment over larger, more impersonal campgrounds. However, the serious allegations of inconsistent rule enforcement, poor communication, and arbitrary evictions raise significant red flags that potential local users must consider.
The fact that one person had a positive experience as a "first campground permanent residence" suggests that for some, Dirks Resort Campground can be a suitable long-term living option. However, the strongly negative experience of another camper indicates that this positive outcome is not universal and might depend heavily on the individual's interactions with the owner and their adherence to potentially subjective or inconsistently applied rules.
Considerations Based on the Reviews:
The stark contrast between the two reviews is the most critical aspect for local users to consider:
- Positive Review: Highlights a "family feel" and an "amazing" owner, particularly for permanent residents.
- Negative Review: Alleges inconsistent rule enforcement, poor communication, unfair eviction, and restrictions on improving one's campsite.
This discrepancy suggests a highly variable experience depending on individual circumstances and interactions with the management. Potential campers should be aware that their experience could fall anywhere along this spectrum.
The negative review is particularly concerning as it raises issues of fairness, communication, and the security of one's stay. Local users who value clear rules, consistent enforcement, and open communication might be hesitant to choose this campground based on this feedback.
Recommendations for Local Users:
For local individuals and families considering Dirks Resort Campground for their "camping near me" needs, it is strongly recommended to:
- Contact the campground directly at (605) 270-2151 or +1 605-270-2151 to inquire about their rules, policies (especially regarding long-term stays and campsite modifications), and communication protocols.
- Seek clarification on the owner's management style and how rules are enforced for different types of campers (short-term vs. long-term).
- Ask for details about the specific amenities available (restrooms, showers, hookups, etc.).
- If possible, try to find additional reviews or testimonials from other campers to get a broader sense of the typical experience at Dirks Resort Campground.
- Consider the potential risks highlighted in the negative review regarding inconsistent treatment and communication.
In conclusion, Dirks Resort Campground near Madison, SD, presents a mixed picture for local users seeking "camping near me." While one reviewer praises the "family feel" and the owner, another reports significant issues with rule enforcement, communication, and fairness. Prospective local campers should approach this campground with caution, conduct thorough inquiries about policies and management practices, and weigh the potential benefits of a small, community-oriented setting against the risks of inconsistent treatment and poor communication as reported by one dissatisfied visitor. The contrasting reviews suggest that the experience at Dirks Resort Campground can be highly subjective.

Dirks Resort Campground Reviews
I would find a different campground. As soon as Krissa doesn’t like you anymore, she will kick you out for absolutely no reason. Also do not even think about putting a little gravel in to make your spot look good! The communication is horrible as well. The rules are only for the campers but DO NOT apply to her kids or her friends.
Jan 12, 2025 · Nicole ObergSmall campground with a family feel. Krissa the owner has been amazing. This is our first campground permanent residence experience and I have no complaints other than it needs to stop raining lol.
Jun 21, 2024 · Crystal lea MarinerThis was our 3rd summer at Dirks and we couldn’t love it more! Amazing people, nice sized sites, pool and community room and a great beach area. We count down the days until camping season begins! Thank you for creating this wonderful resort!!
Sep 12, 2020 · Amanda AllisonI have been camping here for a year. It is a wonderful place to spend your summers. I enjoy everyone at Dirks. The family that owns the resort are amazing people. They make you feel like family.
Oct 06, 2023 · Nate HarryVery cramped spaces. Communicating with Krissa is difficult to put it nicely. You cannot trust her word. Glad to be out of there!
