Based on the positive feedback from recent visitors, Dolliver State Park Campground is characterized by its quiet atmosphere, cleanliness, and friendly staff, making it a desirable local camping destination.
The environment of Dolliver State Park Campground is consistently described as "very quiet," making it an ideal retreat for those seeking a peaceful escape from the noise of everyday life. One reviewer specifically mentioned the tranquility of the campground during their two-night stay. The park is also noted for its beauty, particularly during certain times of the year, suggesting a scenic natural setting that enhances the camping experience. While the specific natural features of Dolliver State Park are not detailed in the reviews, state parks in Iowa often offer a variety of landscapes, including woodlands, trails, and possibly water features, contributing to a pleasant and relaxing environment for campers.
Cleanliness appears to be a high priority at Dolliver State Park Campground. Both reviewers specifically praised the cleanliness of the facilities. One camper noted that "both bathrooms were very clean," which is a significant factor for overall comfort and satisfaction. This attention to hygiene suggests that the campground is well-maintained and that guests can expect a clean and pleasant environment during their stay. The availability of "Fire ring and picnic table at every site" is also a standard and appreciated feature, providing convenience for campfires and outdoor dining.
The hospitality at Dolliver State Park Campground is also highly regarded. One reviewer mentioned a "very friendly host and DNR too," indicating positive interactions with both the campground staff and park officials. Another visitor described the campground as "very nice and monitored," noting the frequent presence of the ranger who ensures quiet hours are observed and potentially addresses any issues. This level of monitoring can contribute to a safe and peaceful environment for all campers, deterring potential disturbances and ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone.
The campground is described as not being "huge," which one reviewer considers a benefit as it prevents overcrowding, even when the campground is full. This smaller size could contribute to the quiet and more intimate atmosphere of Dolliver State Park Campground. While most campsites are reported to have a "decent amount of space," a few are noted as being "a little small," so local users with larger tents or RVs might want to inquire about site sizes when making reservations.
A unique feature of Dolliver State Park Campground is the availability of "2 cabins" for rent, as mentioned by one reviewer, and "a couple cabins" according to another. These cabins offer an alternative to traditional tent or RV camping, providing a more sheltered and potentially more comfortable option, especially during inclement weather or for those who prefer not to sleep directly outdoors. The availability of cabins expands the types of accommodations offered at the campground, catering to a broader range of visitors.
For those concerned about connectivity, one reviewer with Verizon service reported "absolutely no service at all" at the campground, which they personally found to be a positive aspect, describing it as "so nice!!" This lack of cell service could be a significant consideration for some local users who need to stay connected, but a welcome opportunity to disconnect and fully immerse in nature for others. The reviews do not mention the availability of Wi-Fi at the campground, so it is likely that internet access is limited or non-existent.
Check-in is described as "easy," with a simple process of stopping at the check-in area and following the provided directions. This streamlined process contributes to a hassle-free start to the camping experience. The location of Dolliver State Park is also highlighted as having "lots to do in this area," making it a "perfect area to camp and spend a few days." While the specific attractions in the vicinity are not detailed, this suggests that local users can combine their camping trip with exploring other points of interest in the Otho, Iowa, region.
There is no specific promotional information mentioned in the reviews. Local users interested in seasonal rates, discounts for longer stays, or details about cabin rentals should contact Dolliver State Park Campground directly using the provided phone numbers. It would also be beneficial to inquire about the specific amenities offered at the campsites (e.g., electric hookups, water access), the availability and features of the rental cabins, and any information about nearby attractions or activities.
In summary, Dolliver State Park Campground in Otho, IA, offers a quiet and clean camping environment with friendly hosts and a visible park ranger presence ensuring a peaceful stay. The well-maintained facilities, including clean bathrooms with enjoyable shower temperatures and fire rings and picnic tables at each site, contribute to a comfortable experience. The availability of cabins for rent provides an alternative accommodation option. While cell service may be limited, this could be a benefit for those seeking a digital detox. With easy check-in and a location offering plenty to do in the surrounding area, Dolliver State Park Campground appears to be an excellent choice for local users looking for a serene and well-managed "camping near me" getaway.

Dolliver State Park Campground Reviews
Very quiet and clean campground. Very friendly host and DNR too. Was beautiful this time of the year. We rent camped for 2 night. Had such a good time and we will be comin back to stay. Both bathrooms were very clean and the shower water was the perfect temperature. Fire ring and picnic table at every site. Easy check in just stop at the check in area and follow directions. Lots to do in this area. Perfect area to camp and spend a few days. They also have 2 cabins there as well. FYI I have Verizon and absolutely no service at all…was so nice!!
Dec 21, 2024 · Liveoutdoors85This is probably my favorite campground. Its not huge so the crowds aren't too bad even when full. Most of the sites have a decent amount of space, a few are a little small. The ranger comes thru often which keeps some the troublemakers away and has always come around at quiet hours to remind you. Very nice and monitored. Also has a couple cabins to rent as well.
May 18, 2023 · Jason ClementsGood place for hiking and a nice small, almost private campground. If they had free wifi (or any reception really), walk-in primitive camping or marked trails, I'd give 5 stars.
Jun 09, 2024 · A ParksThe whole state park is beautiful and very clean. There was almost always DNR employees working on the area and the grass/landscaping was well maintained. The hiking trails are some of the best you can find. The campsites were organized, monitored and clean. The only thing the park was lacking was a place to purchase ice, firewood, and maybe a vending machine/snack spot. Lehigh has ice but it's inside a bar. The store in Otho is pretty run down and the last time we went by a sign reading "closed till the boss pays us" was on the door. We didn't let the minor inconvenience hamper the fun. It was a much needed family get away to get everyone's mind back in a good space.
