East Weaver Campground Introduce
For local residents searching for "camping near me," understanding the available options is key to planning a successful outdoor adventure. East Weaver Campground, situated on E Weaver Creek Rd in Weaverville, CA, presents a location that has garnered attention from local campers. Based on recent feedback, it's important for those considering this area to be aware of its current operational status and characteristics.
Historically, East Weaver Campground was appreciated for its convenient location near town and its picturesque setting alongside a creek. This proximity to Weaverville made it an accessible option for locals seeking a quick camping getaway without venturing too far. The presence of a creek often enhances the camping experience, providing soothing sounds and potential opportunities for water-related activities, although specific details about such activities at East Weaver Creek are not mentioned in the provided reviews.
One of the reviews highlights that the campground is located adjacent to a neighborhood, which in the past might have offered a sense of accessibility and perhaps even a degree of security. The reviewer also noted its potential as a parking spot for those looking to access hiking trails in the basin area, suggesting that the location serves not only as a camping site but also as a gateway to other outdoor recreational activities. The mention of "basin trails" implies that the area around East Weaver Campground is conducive to hiking and exploring the natural landscape.
However, the reviews also indicate a significant change in the operational status and environment of East Weaver Campground. One reviewer stated that the campground was "closed" due to issues such as drug-related activities and homeless individuals setting up camp. This led to the Forest Service reportedly shutting it down, likely due to safety and community concerns arising from its proximity to a residential area. This information is crucial for anyone considering camping at or near this location, suggesting that traditional individual campsite camping might not currently be available.
Adding to this, another local user mentioned that East Weaver Campground is now operating solely as a "group camping campground" and is available by reservation only. This signifies a shift from potentially being open to individual campers on a first-come, first-served basis or with individual reservations, to now catering exclusively to larger groups who book in advance. The reviewer also noted that the campground seems to be "empty all the time," which could be a consequence of this change in operational policy or perhaps lingering perceptions from its earlier closure.
Despite these changes, the sentiment that it is a "nice spot though, on a creek" and a "beautiful spot" persists in the reviews, indicating that the inherent natural appeal of the location remains. The creek-side setting likely offers a tranquil ambiance, and the proximity to town could still be seen as a benefit for groups looking for a balance between nature and accessibility to amenities.
For local users searching for "camping near me" and coming across information about East Weaver Campground, it is essential to understand the current situation: it is reportedly now a group camping area, available by reservation only, and there have been past issues leading to a temporary closure. Therefore, if you are an individual or a small group looking for a spontaneous camping trip, East Weaver Campground might not be a suitable option at this time unless you are part of a larger, organized group with a reservation.
To summarize the current understanding of East Weaver Campground based on the provided reviews:
- Location: Situated on E Weaver Creek Rd, Weaverville, CA 96093, near the town of Weaverville.
- Environment: Located on a creek, described as a "nice" and "beautiful spot." Adjacent to a neighborhood. Offers potential access to basin hiking trails.
- Current Status: Reportedly operating as a "group camping campground" only, by reservation only.
- Past Issues: Previously faced problems with drug-related activities and homelessness, leading to a reported closure at some point.
- Accessibility: Close to town, potentially offering convenience. Serves as a possible parking area for hikers.
Given the transition to group camping by reservation only, individuals or small families looking for "camping near me" might need to explore other campgrounds in the Weaverville area that cater to individual or smaller group bookings. It would be advisable to contact the US Forest Service or local authorities directly using the provided phone numbers, (530) 623-2121 or +1 530-623-2121, to get the most accurate and up-to-date information on the availability, reservation process, and any current conditions at East Weaver Campground.
While the natural charm of East Weaver Campground seems to endure, its current operational model as a group camping site by reservation only significantly alters its accessibility for the general local camping community searching for "camping near me." Those interested in group camping might find this location appealing due to its creek-side setting and proximity to town and hiking trails, provided they make reservations in advance.
In conclusion, for locals seeking "camping near me," East Weaver Campground in Weaverville is currently presented as a group camping facility available by reservation. Its location on a creek and near hiking trails offers inherent appeal, but potential campers should be aware of its operational change and the reasons behind its earlier reported closure. For individual or small group camping, exploring other options in the vicinity might be more fruitful, while larger groups should inquire about reservations through the provided contact information.

East Weaver Campground Reviews
Closed - too many drug deals going down and homeless folks setting up camp so the forest service shut it down. It's located adjacent to a neighborhood and no one wants that in their backyard. Nice spot though, on a creek close to town. Good place to park for a hike on the basin trails.
Feb 10, 2021 · Charlotte SwabWhen I first moved up here it was nice having a campground so close to town. I'm not sure what happened but now it's only a "group camping campground" , by reservation only. Basically it's empty all the time. Such a waste of a beautiful spot.

Jan 17, 2021 · Myranda WolfeClean, open, safe feeling, restrooms were tidy. Felt welcoming and FYI there appears to be a public pool about a mile away from the campground that I would definitely check out if I had more time.
May 15, 2021 · MJWe had our family reunion there. It was great we rented the whole campground. Which is wonderful, because we can get a bit loud sometimes. We'll definitely be reserving it for next year.
