Mary Smith Campground Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience in the scenic Lewiston, California area? Mary Smith Campground, located on Trinity Dam Blvd, Lewiston, CA 96052, offers a beautiful and peaceful setting for your next outdoor adventure. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground is praised for its natural beauty, cleanliness, and friendly camp host. However, potential visitors should also be aware of certain site-specific characteristics and amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Beautiful and Well-Kept Environment:
One of the most consistently highlighted features of Mary Smith Campground is its natural beauty. Reviewers describe the campground as "beautiful" and "very peaceful," indicating a serene and aesthetically pleasing environment. The campground is also noted for being "well kept," suggesting that the grounds are maintained to a high standard, contributing to a pleasant camping experience. This focus on the environment makes Mary Smith Campground an attractive option for those seeking a tranquil escape into nature.
Friendly and Helpful Camp Host:
The presence of a "very friendly" camp host is another positive aspect frequently mentioned by visitors. A welcoming and helpful host can significantly enhance the camping experience by providing assistance, information, and ensuring a smooth stay for all campers. This personal touch adds to the overall positive atmosphere of Mary Smith Campground.
Site-Specific Considerations: Campsite Size and Lake Access:
While the overall campground receives high marks for its beauty and upkeep, potential campers should be aware of some site-specific limitations. One reviewer in site #10 noted that it was located "up 2 flights of stairs carved into the hill," making it potentially challenging to access, especially with gear. The same reviewer also described the site as "very small," with part of their tent "hanging off the hill." This suggests that some campsites may be uneven, limited in size, and potentially require navigating steep terrain. Another crucial point raised by this reviewer is the lack of "lake access at all" from their specific site. While the campground is near a lake, direct access may vary significantly depending on the campsite.
Lake Access via Trails:
In contrast to the experience of the camper in site #10, another reviewer mentioned, "There are a couple trails down to the lake." This indicates that lake access is indeed available from the campground, but it might require a walk via designated trails. The condition and length of these trails are not specified, so potential visitors who prioritize immediate lake access from their campsite should inquire about site locations relative to these trails.
Clean and Well-Maintained Bathrooms:
Hygiene is an important factor for any campground, and Mary Smith Campground appears to excel in this area. Reviewers specifically mention that "the bathrooms are nice and clean and even smelt good." This attention to cleanliness in the restroom facilities contributes significantly to the comfort and overall satisfaction of campers.
Non-Potable Running Water Access:
The campground provides access to running water, as noted by one reviewer: "There was running water access points it's just non-potable." This is a valuable amenity for tasks such as washing dishes and other non-drinking water needs. However, campers should be aware that this water is not safe for consumption and must bring their own potable water for drinking and cooking or have a method for purifying the available water.
Campsite Size Limitations:
Another important consideration for groups or those with larger tents is the size of the campsites. One review states, "Camp sites will only fit 2 small tents or 1 large one, so keep that in mind." This limitation could impact the number of people or the size of the camping setup that can be accommodated on a single site. Groups traveling together may need to reserve multiple sites to ensure adequate space.
Outdated Website and Recommendation for Reservations:
One reviewer pointed out that "The website is a little outdated and should be updated." This suggests that information available online might not be entirely accurate or current. Therefore, it is crucial to contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date details on site availability, amenities, and regulations. Furthermore, the same reviewer strongly recommends, "Reservations are definitely recommended," indicating that the campground can be popular and that securing a site in advance is advisable, especially during peak season.
Contacting Mary Smith Campground:

You can reach them by phone at (530) 275-8113 or their mobile number +1 530-275-8113. The campground is beautiful and the camp host was very friendly. But I stayed in site #10 and it was up 2 flights of stairs carved into the hill , it was very small part of our tent was hanging off the hill, and there was no lake access at all. But the campground it's self is very beautiful and well kept the bathrooms are nice and clean and even smelt good.

Aug 13, 2024 · Justin BiseGreat experience at Mary Smith!! We had a spot right on the lake with a beautiful view. Campground was quiet and bathrooms were well-kept and clean. Best part was the very friendly host who came around to say hi and make sure we had everything we needed, and she even recommended local swimming spots and other nearby affordable kayak rentals. Definitely recommend!
Aug 21, 2024 · Rachael SnodgrassThis place is great! Preferably a tent cabin or one of the tent spots near them. Even when it's full it's low volume! Loved it and even adopted the resident friendly cat Willie!! And the place right down the road Pine Cove Marina rents canoes, kayaks, and party barges! Stay at the lake at dusk and dawn for the bats!!
Jul 18, 2019 · Rob SnowBeautiful place! Really enjoyed the easy lake access. Sites are very small, can fit 1-2 tents. Lots of delicious blackberries in late July/August. There's also a wonderful trail along the lake. The host was helpful and restrooms were clean. The only downside was lots of wasps around most of the camp. It was totally fine until the last day when my friend got stung. Still it's the wasps home too so I can't be mad.
