Environment: A Haven of Natural Beauty
Echo Lake Campground is lauded for its peaceful and natural environment. Imagine waking up to the sounds of nature, surrounded by lush forests and the tranquil waters of Echo Lake. According to visitor feedback, the campground offers a sense of being "in the middle of nowhere," which many find to be a significant part of its charm. This secluded location allows for a truly immersive outdoor experience, far from crowded tourist spots. The drive to the campground itself, especially via the Echo Trail (a dirt road), is described as "cool" and scenic, setting the tone for the natural beauty that awaits.
Recent maintenance efforts, such as freshly graded roads and cut grass, indicate a commitment to providing a well-kept environment for campers. The decent privacy between most campsites ensures a more intimate connection with nature and a sense of personal space, enhancing the overall camping experience.
Services and Amenities: Comfort in the Wilderness
While Echo Lake Campground emphasizes a more rustic camping experience, it still offers essential services to ensure a comfortable stay. One notable aspect highlighted by visitors is the cleanliness of the outhouses. Although one review mentioned the absence of toilet paper, the overall cleanliness is a significant plus for any camper. The presence of a camp host who is attentive and helpful further enhances the experience. One reviewer specifically praised the host for going "above and beyond," even delivering firewood to their site upon a late arrival.
It's important to note that the reviews also mention the occasional use of generators by other campers, which, in one instance, was reported to have detracted from the peaceful ambiance. While this might not be a consistent issue, it's something to be aware of when considering the soundscape of your camping trip.
Features and Activities: Your Gateway to Adventure
Echo Lake Campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding natural attractions. Its proximity to Voyageurs National Park makes it an ideal choice for those planning day trips to this stunning national treasure. The Echo Trail, easily accessible from the campground, offers a scenic route for exploration, whether you're heading towards the North Shore or simply enjoying a leisurely drive through the wilderness.
The presence of Echo Lake itself suggests opportunities for water-based activities, although specific details about boat launches, fishing, or swimming areas within the campground are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. However, camping near a lake often implies access to such recreational pursuits. The surrounding forests likely offer opportunities for hiking and nature observation.
One of the appealing features, as noted by a visitor, was the availability of open campsites even on a Saturday night in September. This suggests that finding a spot, particularly during the shoulder seasons, might be relatively easy, offering flexibility for those last-minute camping plans.

Echo Lake Campground Reviews
Freshly graded road and cut grass. Decent privacy between most sites. Outhouses were super clean, but no TP. One generator running for hours killed the vibe. Lots of open stops to choose from on a Saturday night in Sept.
Sep 09, 2024 · Benjamin FriesenEcho Lake is in the middle of nowhere, but that is one of the things I loved about it. We camped in the middle of August and only 4 other sites were occupied. The camp host went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay and even delivered firewood to our site when we arrived late Sunday afternoon so we didn't have to drive back to town. We stayed here as a base for our day trip to Voyageurs National Park and took the Echo Trail out as we headed to the North Shore. Such a cool drive (dirt road). Perfect location and scenery and would love to make it back here!
Feb 04, 2024 · Lauren BierbachRemote location, but that is part of the draw. A couple of campers did run their generator during the day, but we were on the lake Canoeing Beautiful sunsets.
Jul 09, 2022 · Matt FaughnSome sites are first come, first serve - yet even on Fourth of July weekend we were able to snag one. Very clean and such an amazing camp host.Do NOT forget bug spray, the mosquitoes eventually died down at night (with help from the spray a neighbor gave us & smoke from the campfire).
Jul 09, 2024 · Rusted RoseVery buggy. Nice beach and campsite. Middle of the week quiet but as you near the weekend, sites fill up with campers - unfortunately, generators are not regulated and we heard one running all day and all night.
