Falcon Nest Family Campground Introduce
For local residents in South Carolina and those near Shaw Air Force Base (AFB), the search for convenient "camping near me" might lead you to Falcon Nest Family Campground, located on base at Shaw AFB, SC 29152, USA. This campground, reachable by phone at (803) 895-0450 or mobile at +1 803-895-0450, appears to serve as a supplementary base housing area while also accommodating transient campers. Based on available customer reviews, Falcon Nest Family Campground offers a functional camping experience with a peaceful, wooded environment.
The environment of Falcon Nest Family Campground is described by a reviewer as "nice peaceful wooded," suggesting a setting that offers shade and a connection with nature. This could be particularly appealing for local users seeking a respite from the more developed areas and a chance to relax in a natural environment. The presence of trees contributes to a sense of tranquility and can provide a more comfortable camping experience, especially during the warmer months in South Carolina.
In terms of services, the campground provides essential amenities for campers. One reviewer noted "good lighting throughout the park," which is a significant safety and convenience feature, allowing for easier navigation and movement around the campground at night. The presence of a "small laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers" is another valuable service, especially for longer stays, enabling campers to take care of their laundry needs on-site. However, the same reviewer mentioned that the laundry room "could use some cleaning up," indicating a potential area for improvement in terms of maintenance.
The availability of a "change machine" in the laundry room is a thoughtful feature, but one reviewer experienced it being "out of quarters on a Sunday afternoon," highlighting the importance of ensuring such facilities are regularly maintained and stocked, especially during peak usage times. This suggests that while the service is provided, its reliability might be inconsistent.
Based on the reviews, the camping spaces at Falcon Nest Family Campground are "a little close" for one reviewer's preference for a winter residence, implying that while functional, the sites might not offer extensive privacy or separation between camping units. However, the same reviewer found it "especially good for a short respite from the highway," suggesting its suitability for overnight or short-term stays for those passing through the area or local users seeking a quick getaway.
A significant feature mentioned in one of the reviews is the unfortunate incident of an "RV that caught fire and burned up." While this is an isolated event, the reviewer's observation that "a week and a half later when we left it was still sitting there with the terrible smell of burnt metal and plastic etc." raises concerns about the speed of incident response and site cleanup. The reviewer noted that the burnt RV was "2 sites down from us," indicating a potential impact on the immediate camping environment for other guests.
Despite this serious incident, the reviewer also commented on the overall positive aspects of the location, mentioning "Nice base and surrounding town." This suggests that while there might be areas needing attention within the campground itself, the broader location near Shaw AFB and the surrounding community of Sumter offer potential attractions and conveniences for local users.
Considering the "camping near me" platform category, Falcon Nest Family Campground offers a geographically convenient option for those in the vicinity of Shaw AFB and Sumter, South Carolina. Its accessibility and basic amenities like laundry facilities and lighting make it a practical choice for short-term stays or for individuals with ties to the military base.
However, based on the provided reviews, local users should be aware of potential drawbacks such as the proximity of camping spaces, the cleanliness of the laundry facilities, and the responsiveness to incidents requiring cleanup. It would be prudent for prospective campers to inquire about the current status of the campground and any recent improvements or changes in management practices.
Given that the information is based on a limited number of reviews, it is challenging to provide a comprehensive overview of all services and features. Local users considering Falcon Nest Family Campground might want to inquire about specific amenities such as water and electrical hookups for RVs, restroom and shower facilities, picnic tables, fire pits, and any recreational areas that might be available. Information regarding pet policies and any rules or regulations for campers would also be essential for a smooth stay.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided text. Local users interested in potential discounts for military personnel, extended stays, or seasonal offers should contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers. It's also advisable to check online camping platforms or review sites for any updated information or recent reviews that might provide a more current perspective on the campground's condition and services.
In conclusion, Falcon Nest Family Campground offers a potentially convenient "camping near me" option for local users, particularly those affiliated with or located near Shaw AFB. Its wooded environment and basic amenities like laundry facilities and lighting are positives. However, potential drawbacks such as close camping spaces and reported maintenance issues should be considered. Local users are encouraged to contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information on services, features, and any current promotions to make an informed decision about their camping plans.

Falcon Nest Family Campground Reviews
Just passing through for 2 nights. Good little camp. Seems to be used as a supplemental base housing area. Spaces are a little close for me to make this a winter residence. But, I could see myself doing it if the situation called for it. Especially good for a short respite from the highway as I return north (to Maine). Would definitely stay here again if I could get reservations
Mar 25, 2025 · Wesley GodwinNice peaceful wooded campground. Good lighting throughout the park. Small laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers. Could use some cleaning up. There is a change machine but it was out of quarters on a Sunday afternoon so I had to go across base to the commissary for quarters. While we were there back in April there was an RV that caught fire and burned up. But a week and a half later when we left it was still sitting there with the terrible smell of burnt metal and plastic etc. It was 2 sites down from us but they didn’t seem in any big hurry to get it out of there. Site #21 was ours. Nice base and surrounding town.
Jul 13, 2024 · Char HargroveWe have stayed here for several years. It is good stop on our route to Florida. Although the camp sites need work, and each time we stay it has never quite been completed, ie.the restrooms, other projects on agenda are held up from one reason or another. We have enjoyed staying here because of Tron (host in office) and any issues we have encountered , he can usually resolve to the best of his ability. Very pleasant, knowledgeable and easy going. We find surroundings quite relaxing and base very clean.Wayne &Bev Bowie (lot#20)
Jan 18, 2020 · Beverley BowieIf you are on the waiting list for an RV site, it's not a list, it's a lottery. If you miss the call, you are out of luck and you don't move on the list.Nice campground on the base. A couple small points that they could improve on:1) no spot number was given to us for our long term stay and so when we showed up during the weekend, we had to pick a random site. Now we have to move to another spot 24 hours after arriving. Packing up to move 100 ft is a lot of work believe it or not. Would be nice to have that info ahead of time or posted on the door when we arrived.2) washers and dryers are not free like some bases and they are small and there are only two. Would be nice to have a larger washer dryer for the cost. Also TLF has free laundry.....3) we requested to stay in the site we had picked when the office was closed and the staff member said they couldn't move us. I don't understand why. Swapping spots in the computer should be easy. We ran into this at another base famcamp before too and we got moved 4 times in a month there because they let short stays have preferences. I used to work at an RV resort as a registration manager for 1500 sites. So I find this all very confusing, but it seems to be the normal operating procedure at famcamps. As for the park, very scenic. No wifi at the rigs, but appears that they have wifi in the office and a nice area to sit. The bathrooms were nice with good size shower heads and lots of water pressure. It is plenty quiet in the evenings too.
May 02, 2022 · Amanda RA nice campground at Shaw AFB. The morning are a little noisy since the F-16 work and play here but they have a nice exchange, great golf course and nice displays of aircraft at the entrance. The campground set up is a little odd since the water is next to the grill and the black/grey water dump is sits high above the ground. Overall the price is right, there is a gym within a 5 minute drive, and you can rent all of your outdoor adventures plus more.
