Fireside Retreat on the Thunder Bay River Introduce
For local users in search of "camping near me" with the added comfort of a cabin, Fireside Retreat on the Thunder Bay River located at 13015 M-32, Atlanta, MI 49709, presents a lodging option to consider. While the name evokes a cozy riverside escape, it’s crucial to approach this choice with a balanced perspective based on recent guest feedback available online. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the property's environment, potential services, and features, drawing directly from the experiences shared by previous visitors.
The environment surrounding Fireside Retreat on the Thunder Bay River appears to be conveniently located near the town of Atlanta. One reviewer noted its proximity to town as a positive aspect, suggesting easy access to local amenities, events, or supplies that might be needed during a stay. However, the initial impression of the exterior seems to be a point of concern for some guests. One review described the outside as "a little sketchy looking" and suggested that more decor or landscaping could enhance its curb appeal and make it feel more inviting. Local users who prioritize a visually appealing exterior upon arrival might want to keep this in mind.
Inside the cabins, the feedback is more positive regarding spaciousness and furniture. Guests have described the rooms as "really nice inside" with "nice looking" furniture and a "very spacious" feel. This could be a significant advantage for families or groups looking for comfortable indoor living areas during their "camping near me" cabin experience, especially during potentially cooler northern Michigan evenings. The mention of heaters indicates that the cabins are equipped for colder weather, although one reviewer noted that they were "very loud," which might be a consideration for light sleepers.
However, it's essential to acknowledge the cleanliness and maintenance issues raised by some guests. Multiple reviews detail concerns about the tidiness of the rooms, including complaints of rooms not being as "clean or tidy," "cobwebs everywhere," and "dead bugs all over." One particularly concerning comment mentioned "signs of bedbugs" in one of the rooms, although the reviewer wasn't certain if they were currently present. These remarks highlight the importance of verifying the current cleanliness standards and pest control measures with the property management before booking, especially for local users with specific hygiene expectations.
Further negative feedback points to several maintenance and amenity shortcomings. Guests reported a beveled and sticky floor, a sticky bathroom sink and toilet, rust in the shower, and a broken and noisy bed frame that caused concern for pet safety. Additionally, there were complaints about malfunctioning air conditioning and inconsistent heating, windows lacking screens, and a very small bathroom with an inconvenient sink placement. These issues could significantly impact the comfort and overall experience for local users seeking a relaxing cabin stay.
In terms of provided amenities, several discrepancies were noted between expectations and reality. Guests reported the absence of plates, utensils, smoke alarms, a carbon monoxide detector, curtains to block out light, propane for the grill, grilling utensils, an iron, real outdoor furniture, cooking basics, a patio/balcony, and a first aid kit. The fire pit also lacked wood and a way to light it. The lack of essential items like smoke and carbon monoxide detectors raises significant safety concerns that local users should address directly with the management before considering a stay.
One reviewer clarified that the property is "not beach front," which might be relevant for local users specifically looking for waterfront access as part of their "camping near me" experience. The grill was described as not being very close to the cabin, which could influence meal planning for those intending to cook outdoors.
On a more positive note, one reviewer mentioned that "the rate was good though," suggesting that Fireside Retreat on the Thunder Bay River might be a budget-friendly option for local users. However, it's crucial to weigh the cost savings against the potential compromises in cleanliness, maintenance, and provided amenities based on the detailed feedback from other guests.
It's important to note the "update response" from one reviewer who stated that after posting their initial review, the owner mentioned a lack of communication regarding missing plates and silverware. The reviewer's point was that these items should be stocked as stated without the need for a guest to request them. This highlights a potential gap in service or communication that local users might want to consider.
In conclusion, Fireside Retreat on the Thunder Bay River offers a potentially affordable "camping near me" cabin option in a location convenient to Atlanta, MI. The spacious interiors and furniture have been noted as positives. However, numerous concerns have been raised regarding cleanliness, maintenance, the functionality of essential amenities like heating and cooling, and the absence of expected items such as safety devices and cooking provisions. Local users considering this cabin should carefully weigh the budget-friendly aspect against the reported shortcomings and are strongly advised to contact the property management directly at (435) 459-1189 or +1 435-459-1189 to inquire about the current condition of the cabins, the availability of essential amenities, and the measures taken to address the issues raised in the reviews. A thorough discussion with the management will be crucial for local users to determine if Fireside Retreat aligns with their expectations for a comfortable and safe cabin getaway.

Fireside Retreat on the Thunder Bay River Reviews
We stayed here for a night while attending a local event. The outside is a little sketchy looking. It could use more decor or landscaping to make it seem more inviting. It very close to town though, which is nice. However, the rooms are really nice inside. The furniture looks nice and the rooms are very spacious. The heaters were very loud but you're in northern Michigan in a small town. Our room was fine but some of the others we were traveling with complained their rooms weren't as clean or tidy and one room showing signs of bedbugs. However I don't think there were any, just possiblity at some point in the past. The rate was good though.
Feb 12, 2023 · Joseph Sanchez**update response** yes this is the place, maybe it has changed since we were here but no doubt about it the right place. Once we posted our review on vrbo the owner also said we didn't let them know we didn't have plates/silverware, ect. I shouldn't have to let them know I don't have what they state are stocked for the rooms...*The floor was beveled up from the flooring placed, it was also sticky and so was the bathroom sink and toilet as well. Not very clean, cobwebs everywhere and dead bugs all over.Rust in shower, the bed frame was busted and made a lot of noises. Worried it would break and my dogs would be under the bed and get hurt. The air conditioner didn't work, nor the heat. The heat had one setting pretty much and that was just hot.No screens in the windows. The bathroom is super small, so if you're a bigger person you would not be able to sit down to use the facilities. Because the sink is in the way. There were no plates, utensils, smoke alarms, and a carbon monoxide detector. No curtains to block out light, just white blinds and the light in the lot a night comes in a lot.No propane for the grill, no utensils to use that either. Not beach frontNo ironNo real outdoor furnitureNo cooking basics as statedNo patio/balconyNo first aid as statedThe fire pit had no wood or way to light. If planning to use the grill it's not far but not close, so plan to eat outside.
