Very cool place good amount of campgrounds. It's a campground mostly for RVs... Campsite are very flat and lack shade. Bathrooms are some of the cleanest I've seen. The old bunkers can be very cool for all ages in my opinion. Can be a lot of traffic coming and going with the day use right next to the campsite. - Tazz1775

Fort Worden State Park Forest Campground Introduce

For local residents seeking "camping near me" within a location rich in both natural beauty and historical significance, Fort Worden State Park Forest Campground near Port Townsend, Washington, offers a compelling option. Situated within the expansive Fort Worden State Park, this campground provides access to a wide array of activities, stunning views, and unique features like historic military bunkers. While reviews suggest it caters primarily to RV campers, it still holds appeal for others seeking a well-maintained camping experience within this remarkable state park. This introduction aims to provide a detailed overview of the environment, services, and features of Fort Worden State Park Forest Campground, drawing from recent camper feedback to offer an objective perspective for prospective visitors.

The environment surrounding Fort Worden State Park Forest Campground is characterized by its location within a "very cool place" that offers "amazing views." Being part of Fort Worden State Park, campers are immersed in a setting that blends natural landscapes with historical structures. The park's grounds encompass beaches, forests, bluffs, and the iconic remnants of a former military fort. This diverse environment provides a rich backdrop for camping and exploration. The specific mention of "amazing views" suggests that the campground or nearby areas offer scenic vistas, likely overlooking the Puget Sound or the Olympic Mountains, both of which are prominent features of the Port Townsend area.

One of the notable features of Fort Worden State Park, and accessible to those staying at the Forest Campground, is the presence of "old bunkers." One reviewer found these bunkers to be "very cool for all ages," suggesting they offer a unique and interesting element to explore during a camping trip. These historic structures provide a tangible link to the past and can be a fascinating attraction for visitors of all ages, adding an educational and adventurous dimension to the camping experience.

In terms of services and facilities, one reviewer highlighted that the "bathrooms are some of the cleanest I've seen." This is a significant positive aspect, as clean and well-maintained restrooms contribute greatly to the comfort and overall satisfaction of campers. This suggests a commitment to hygiene and camper well-being at this particular campground within Fort Worden State Park.

However, the reviews also provide some important considerations regarding the campsites themselves. One reviewer noted that it's "a campground mostly for RVs" and that the "campsite are very flat and lack shade." This information is crucial for tent campers. The flatness of the sites might be advantageous for setting up RVs, but it could potentially make tent camping less comfortable or offer less natural definition to individual spaces. The lack of shade is another significant factor, especially during warmer months, as it could lead to hot and exposed campsites. Tent campers should be prepared for potentially sunny conditions and consider bringing their own shade structures if necessary.

Another aspect to be aware of is the potential for traffic. The reviewer mentioned that there "can be a lot of traffic coming and going with the day use right next to the campsite." This suggests that the campground is located in close proximity to areas of the park that attract day visitors. This could result in increased vehicle and pedestrian activity, potentially impacting the peace and quiet of the campground, especially during peak hours. Campers seeking a secluded and tranquil experience might want to consider this potential for traffic when choosing a site within the campground, if site selection is possible.

The second review offers a more general positive sentiment, stating, "It was great, the views were amazing and there were so many amazing activities and views." This reinforces the appeal of the location in terms of its scenic beauty and the abundance of things to do within Fort Worden State Park. These activities likely include exploring the historic fort, visiting the lighthouse, walking or biking on the numerous trails, beachcombing, and potentially visiting the various museums and educational centers within the park.

The provided reviews do not offer specific details about other services that might be available at the Fort Worden State Park Forest Campground, such as water hookups, electrical hookups, sewer hookups for RVs, the availability of potable water sources, fire rings, or picnic tables at individual campsites. To obtain this detailed information, contacting the provided phone numbers, (360) 344-4431 or +1 360-344-4431, is recommended. The park staff can provide comprehensive details about the amenities offered at the Forest Campground, as well as any specific regulations or guidelines for campers.

Similarly, there is no mention of any promotional information in the reviews. To inquire about potential discounts, special rates for local residents, or seasonal promotions for camping at Fort Worden State Park Forest Campground, direct communication with the park authorities is necessary. They can provide information on any current deals or packages that might be available.

In conclusion, Fort Worden State Park Forest Campground offers a unique camping experience within a historically significant and naturally beautiful setting near Port Townsend. Its proximity to the park's attractions, including the fascinating old bunkers, and the availability of exceptionally clean bathrooms are significant advantages. The "amazing views" and the multitude of activities within Fort Worden State Park itself contribute to its appeal. However, potential campers, especially those with tents, should be aware that the campsites are described as mostly flat and lacking shade. Additionally, the campground's proximity to day-use areas might result in higher traffic levels at times. For RV campers, the flat sites are likely a benefit. To obtain detailed information about campsite amenities and any potential promotional offers, contacting the park directly is recommended. Overall, for those seeking "camping near me" with a blend of history, scenery, and activities, Fort Worden State Park Forest Campground is a worthy option to consider, keeping in mind the specific characteristics of the campsites and potential for traffic.
