Seeking a peaceful and affordable "camping near me" experience in the Frankfort, Kentucky area? Look no further than Kentucky River Campground & RV Park, located at 1489 Steele Branch Rd, Frankfort, KY 40601, USA. You can reach them at (502) 227-2465 or +1 502-227-2465 to plan your relaxing getaway along the scenic Kentucky River. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers a clean, quiet, and budget-friendly option with some notable perks and a beautiful natural setting.
The environment surrounding Kentucky River Campground & RV Park is frequently praised for its natural beauty. The drive into the campground itself is described as a "beautiful drive winding down along a creek, with the land ascending on both sides," offering a picturesque descent from the main road to the river level. Once at the campground, you'll find it situated right by the Kentucky River, providing opportunities for riverfront camping. The overall atmosphere is reported to be quiet and spacious, allowing for a tranquil retreat. While specific details about the types of trees or terrain are not extensively mentioned, the emphasis on the river and the scenic drive suggests a natural and appealing setting for outdoor enthusiasts.
In terms of services, Kentucky River Campground & RV Park offers both RV sites and tent camping areas. While the exact number of RV sites with specific hookups (water, electric, sewer) isn't detailed in the reviews, it functions as an RV park, implying the availability of such amenities. However, it's explicitly mentioned that the tent sites are "sparse at only 3 locations" and are not electric. This is attributed to previous flooding that affected the electrical infrastructure in those areas. Therefore, tent campers should be prepared for a more primitive camping experience without electric hookups. A significant and appreciated service offered by the campground is free firewood, a notable perk that enhances the camping experience, especially for those planning to enjoy campfires.
One of the key features of Kentucky River Campground & RV Park is its affordability. A reviewer specifically mentioned paying only $25 for a night of tent camping right by the river, highlighting it as "a great deal." This makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers and local users looking for an inexpensive "camping near me" option. The quiet atmosphere is another frequently mentioned feature, contributing to a relaxing and peaceful stay. The convenience of a nearby convenience store is also a plus, allowing campers to easily access essential supplies without having to travel far.
The location of Kentucky River Campground & RV Park is also a significant feature, particularly for those looking to explore the surrounding area. It is described as being "located very close to Frankfort & Buffalo Trace," making it an ideal spot for camping while visiting the city and the renowned bourbon distillery. This proximity allows campers to enjoy the tranquility of the natural setting while still having easy access to urban amenities and tourist attractions.
Another positive feature highlighted in a review is the friendly nature of the permanent residents encountered at the campground. They were reported to be very welcoming, stopping by to say hello to new campers, often accompanied by their dogs. This adds a friendly and community-oriented feel to the campground, making visitors feel welcome and safe.
However, there is one notable potential environmental factor to be aware of: the presence of local wildlife. One reviewer mentioned being woken up by coyotes running in a nearby field at 3 am, followed by the sound of foxes playing by the river and campsite at 4 am. While these encounters are part of the natural camping experience, light sleepers might want to come prepared with earplugs. It's also a reminder to secure food properly to avoid attracting wildlife to your campsite.
The positive review also specifically thanked the staff running the park, mentioning "weiland, hope, & baby’s owners" for making their stay pleasant and helping them find the amenities needed. This suggests a friendly and helpful staff dedicated to ensuring a positive experience for their guests.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. To learn about any current discounts, seasonal rates, or special offers at Kentucky River Campground & RV Park, it is best to contact them directly at (502) 227-2465 or +1 502-227-2465. Given the mention of affordability, it's worth asking if they have any ongoing promotions to further enhance the value of your stay.
In conclusion, Kentucky River Campground & RV Park offers an appealing "camping near me" option in Frankfort, Kentucky, particularly for those seeking an inexpensive, clean, and quiet riverside experience. The free firewood is a significant perk, and its convenient location near Frankfort and Buffalo Trace makes it a great base for exploring the area. Kentucky River Campground & RV Park Reviews
Inexpensive. Clean. Convenience store nearby. Free firewood. Quiet place.Camped in a tent last night.right by the river. It was 25 for the night. A great deal. The drive in from the main road takes you from up high, down to the river. A beautiful drive winding down along a creek, with the land ascending on both sides. The campground is spacious and clean. I checked in quickly and was able to pick my tent spot.A very quiet night with a pretty fire made my stay wonderful.
Oct 29, 2024 · Thamas MginassWonderful place to stay. Tent sites are sparse at only 3 locations but all in all a beautiful location. Located very close to Frankfort & Buffalo trace makes it an ideal spot to camp while visiting the city. The permanent residents we ran into were very friendly & all stopped by & said hello along with their dogs. Only hiccup would be the coyotes that woke us up at 3 am running in the field by the site, followed by the less startling sound of foxes playing at the river & campsite at 4 am. The sites are not electric which is to be excepted since they have had flooding that fried the sites electricity previously. A really nice perk was the large amount of dried free fire wood we were able to use to start a fire in the fire ring. Thank you to the staff running the park, weiland, hope, & baby’s owners who all made the stay very pleasant & helped us find the amenities we needed to make the stay an enjoyable one.
Jul 23, 2024 · Rick SchroederWe rented the on site camper and were very pleased with the cleanliness and comfort of the camper. It was well stocked and very clean, everything one might need for a comfortable getaway was there. Just bring groceries. Definitely would do it again.
May 20, 2024 · Nicole AndelWe had a great time at the campground met many nice people that truly made us feel at home and as if we’ve known them our whole life. Angie the manager was fantastic, she hads made the campground a family affair which we rarely see on our travels around the Country. We hope to return again soon and visit with our new found friends in Kentucky!
Jul 19, 2023 · El MarineroIf you’re looking for peace and quiet this is NOT the place. It’s loud and there’s music going on all hours of the night. Spaces are squeezed in there like sardines. Literally there is inches between your space and your neighbors. Most of the people who stay here are full timers so there’s golf carts everywhere and people stopping in the street to have conversations and all kinds of weird permanent structures. We stayed the weekend. The cable connection did not work. We asked them to fix it or move us and they did neither. I asked for a partial refund of my fee and I was promptly ignored. We won’t be returning.
