For local users in the Lexington, KY area searching for "camping near me," the campground located on Campground Rd, Lexington, KY 40511, USA, presents a conveniently situated and reasonably priced option. You can contact them at (859) 233-4303 or their mobile number +1 859-233-4303 to inquire about availability and make reservations. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground offers several appealing features, particularly its location and price, but also has some limitations that potential visitors should consider.
One of the most significant advantages highlighted by reviewers is the "excellent location!" The campground's proximity to "many attractions" makes it a compelling choice for those looking to explore the Lexington area. While the specific attractions are not detailed, Lexington is known for its rich equestrian heritage, beautiful horse farms, historic sites, and vibrant downtown area. The campground's location likely provides easy access to these points of interest, making it a convenient base for sightseeing and activities.
Another key benefit mentioned is the "great price." Affordability is often a crucial factor for campers, and this campground appears to offer a budget-friendly option for those seeking "camping near me" without breaking the bank. This combination of a prime location and reasonable rates adds to its appeal for a wide range of campers.
For added convenience, the campground features a "camp store" that reviewers note "has everything you need." This on-site store can be a significant asset, providing essential camping supplies, snacks, and other necessities, saving campers from having to make frequent trips off-site for basic items. The availability of a well-stocked camp store enhances the overall camping experience by offering easy access to required goods.
Booking a site at this campground is reported to be "very easy" thanks to its online booking system. The ability to reserve a campsite online streamlines the planning process and offers convenience for users. This ease of booking can be a major advantage, especially during peak camping seasons when availability might be limited.
A notable perk for visitors interested in the local equestrian scene is that the campground offers "discounted tickets for the horse park at the camp store!" Lexington is renowned as the "Horse Capital of the World," and the Kentucky Horse Park is a major attraction. The availability of discounted tickets directly at the campground provides a valuable benefit for those planning to visit this iconic destination.
However, alongside these positive aspects, the reviews also point out some notable drawbacks that potential campers should be aware of. One significant limitation is the lack of "sewer hookups" at the campsites. This means that RV campers will need to utilize the campground's dump station for waste disposal, which might be less convenient than having a direct sewer connection at their site.
Another potential issue is "bad phone reception if you have Verizon." For Verizon customers, this could mean limited or no cellular service at the campground, which might be a concern for those needing to stay connected or rely on their phones for navigation and communication.
The quality of the "showers" is also a point of concern, with one reviewer describing them as making you "feel like you're getting deloused in a prison." This vivid description suggests that the shower facilities might be outdated, poorly maintained, or offer a less than pleasant experience. For campers who prioritize clean and comfortable bathing facilities, this is a significant factor to consider.
Despite these negatives, the reviewer who mentioned the phone reception and showers still stated that they "had a fantastic time!" overall and "would recommend" the campground, suggesting that the positives, such as location and price, might outweigh these drawbacks for some visitors.
Another review provides a more balanced perspective, categorizing aspects as "THE GOOD" and "THE BAD." On the positive side, the reviewer noted that it is a "Nice campground with decent site size" and that the "showers, bathroom" are "Clean." The "Good camp store" and the availability of "Power and water only" at the sites are also mentioned as positive attributes.
However, this same reviewer also highlighted several significant "BAD" aspects. One major issue is that there is "Only 1 bathroom / bathhouse in center of park," while the park has a "double circle layout." This configuration leads to a lack of "pathways to center bath/store area," forcing campers to "must walk through other's sites" to access these central facilities. This lack of direct pathways could be inconvenient and potentially disruptive to other campers.
Another concern raised is the timing of maintenance activities, with "Maintenance staff start cutting grass at 8:20 am. When 20 ft behind our camper. TOO EARLY for that." This suggests that early morning noise from maintenance could be an issue for campers hoping to sleep in or enjoy a quiet start to their day.
Finally, the reviewer noted that the "Site are somewhat muddy due to a lot of bare ground." Muddy campsites can be unpleasant, especially during or after rain, and can make it difficult to keep tents and gear clean.
In conclusion, this campground near you in Lexington, KY, offers a compelling combination of an excellent location close to attractions, a great price, a well-equipped camp store, and easy online booking, including discounted tickets for the Kentucky Horse Park. However, potential visitors should be aware of the limitations, including no sewer hookups, potential Verizon phone reception issues, concerns about the shower quality, the central and potentially inconveniently located single bathhouse, early morning maintenance noise, and potentially muddy campsites. Despite these drawbacks, many visitors seem to have an overall positive experience, likely due to the prime location and affordability. Local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh these pros and cons based on their individual priorities and needs when considering a stay at this Lexington campground.

Excellent location! Great price. Camp store has everything you need. Close to many attractions. Very easy to book a site online. They offer discounted tickets for the horse park at the camp store!Only a couple of negatives: no sewer hookups, bad phone reception if you have Verizon and the showers make you feel like you're getting deloused in a prison. But, other than that we had a fantastic time! Would recommend.

Jun 27, 2023 · Joe Mason IIAbsolutely a must see. We camped for 4 days and loved every minute. We went to the the horse museum, saw beautiful horses and enjoyed our surroundings. Donna, the manager is terrific and always there if you need something. Donna gets 5 stars also. Highly recommend if ever in Lexington, KY area.
Jun 14, 2022 · Michael WhelanThis is a nice campground, but unfortunately has many, many golf carts driving all over the grounds. We are not opposed to having golf carts in the campground,; however, they need to be limited. Also, there were many youngsters, definitely NOT of age to be driving, who were speeding around at approximately 15-20 mph. It was definitely unsafe for the little ones riding their bicycles/trikes around. This noise went on well past 10pm and absolutely took away from the quiet family campfire time. I would like to see this patrolled and rules enforced before the unavoidable accident occurs. Please make some changes to prevent this from happening.
Jun 18, 2023 · Laura VantressI love this campground!!!! It's quiet and peaceful! The site I stay at has water and electric. Showers are hot! I LOVE that they have an ADA shower stall in the womens bathroom! They have 2 playgrounds. A pool. Laundry facilities. They do not have App enabled laundry. It is quarter only. The game room could use a makeover. It's not really a game room. It just has a couple claw machines and those quarter machines you get little prizes from. BUT! Quiet and peaceful is all I need when I'm there.
