Camp On the Kentucky, located at 5486 Cummins Ferry Rd, Versailles, KY 40383, USA, offers a camping experience along the banks of the Kentucky River. You can reach them for inquiries or reservations at (859) 879-6402 or their mobile number +1 859-879-6402.
Based on recent customer feedback, experiences at Camp On the Kentucky appear to vary significantly. One camper described their stay in a tent camping site with a van/camper as wonderful and peaceful. They highlighted the helpfulness of the staff, the cleanliness of the bathrooms, and the amazing view of the river. This positive experience led them to express an intention to return with friends and noted the availability of Wi-Fi despite the lack of cell service.
However, another recent review paints a starkly different picture. This camper expressed strong dissatisfaction, stating they were "never so happy to leave a place" and reported feeling unsafe during their stay. They specifically cautioned against attempting to access the campground with a big rig, suggesting it is unsuitable for larger vehicles. This reviewer also felt that the campground needed to better advertise its remote location, describing it as "headed off civilization." Furthermore, they found the gentleman they encountered to be unfriendly and were disappointed by the limited view of the Kentucky River, questioning the campground's high rating. This negative experience led to an urgent desire to depart at the first light of day.
Considering these contrasting reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully weigh the potential benefits and drawbacks of Camp On the Kentucky. The positive review suggests a peaceful environment for tent campers and smaller RVs, with helpful staff and clean facilities. The availability of Wi-Fi in an area with no cell service could be a significant advantage for those needing to stay connected.
On the other hand, the negative review raises serious concerns about safety, accessibility for larger vehicles, the remoteness of the location, and the friendliness of the staff. The discrepancy in the perceived view of the Kentucky River is also noteworthy. The comment about the campground's high rating being perplexing suggests a potential disconnect between online reputation and individual experiences.
For local users specifically searching within the "camping near me" category, Camp On the Kentucky presents a location directly on the Kentucky River in Versailles. However, the strong caution against big rigs implies that RV owners with larger vehicles should likely consider alternative campgrounds with better accessibility. Tent campers seeking a potentially peaceful riverside experience might find it appealing, especially given the reported helpful staff and clean bathrooms. However, the feeling of unsafety reported by one reviewer is a serious consideration that potential visitors should not overlook.
The lack of cell service, while potentially contributing to a peaceful atmosphere for some, could be a significant drawback for others who rely on mobile communication. The availability of Wi-Fi might mitigate this issue for some, but it's important to confirm the reliability and accessibility of this service upon booking.
In conclusion, Camp On the Kentucky offers a riverside location that has provided a positive experience for at least one tent camper. However, significant concerns regarding safety, accessibility for big rigs, the perceived remoteness, and staff friendliness have also been raised by another recent visitor. Local users exploring "camping near me" options should carefully consider these contrasting viewpoints and potentially seek more information or recent reviews from multiple sources before making a decision. It would be prudent to inquire specifically about road conditions, accessibility for your vehicle type, and measures taken to ensure guest safety when contacting the campground.

Mar 18, 2025 · A AI've never been so happy to leave a place! I didn't feel safe. If you are a big rig, don'teven try! They need to advertise well headed off civilization! The gentleman wasn't very friendly. It might be on the Kentucky River, but you see very little. How they have such a high rating is beyond me. Couldn't wait for daylight so we could get the heck out of there!!
Sep 05, 2024 · Janice ZSadly, after 3 voicemails and an email trying to reschedule or receive a partial refund for a stay we booked months in advance, No one has called us back. No where on their website does it state they have a no refund policy. We had to cancel for health reasons in my pregnancy and tried to do so weeks prior to our arrival. I recommend paying only the non refundable fee for booking or they will keep your money and refuse to contact you back if your plans change. Nice place if you dont mind the junk yard in theback loop, small shower house w 1 shower, rv lots are very close together, pretty views of the river and convenient boat ramp but because they blatantly ignored our attempts of contact we will choose a different campground for our annual trips to KY. Not friendly or family like feeling.
Jul 26, 2024 · C StoneThere were a few iffys about the campground. There was no stated check in/check out time in an email or online, no updated pictures or map of the grounds, only one shower per gender in the only bath house on the entire property, and the tent spaces were no less than 8 feet apart. We could hear both of our neighbors talking in their tents at night. We assumed we could walk out to the river from our campsite but none of the sites can access the water
Jun 03, 2024 · Madison TaylorI camped there for 2 days while heading back to the east coast. Great place and very friendly people. Road to campground is very picturesque with rolling hills and horse farms all around! Will definitely go back.
