Kentucky Horse Park Campground Introduce
Are you searching for the perfect "camping near me" experience in the heart of Kentucky? Look no further than the Kentucky Horse Park Campground, nestled within the world-renowned Kentucky Horse Park at 4089 Iron Works Pike, Lexington, KY 40511, USA. This campground offers a distinctive camping environment for local users seeking a blend of natural beauty and convenient access to a variety of attractions and amenities.
The Kentucky Horse Park Campground provides a unique setting, allowing campers to immerse themselves in the equestrian culture and scenic landscapes that define the region. Imagine waking up to the gentle sounds of nature and the possibility of catching glimpses of magnificent horses grazing nearby. The campground benefits from the expansive green spaces of the Kentucky Horse Park, offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. While one review mentions beautiful "Trees of the Horse Park Campground!" and fantastic fall weather, it's important to note that another review describes the sites as potentially muddy and the pads as cracked and uneven. This suggests that while the overall environment can be appealing, site conditions may vary, and it's advisable to inquire about specific site conditions when making a reservation.
In terms of services, the Kentucky Horse Park Campground offers essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. You can reach them at (859) 259-4257 or their mobile number, +1 859-259-4257, for inquiries and reservations. While the campground does not offer sewer hookups at each site, a significant point raised in a customer review, they do provide a convenient solution. A local septic business is available to pump your holding tanks directly at your campsite, eliminating the need to move your rig. This service, though an added cost, can be a significant convenience for longer stays. It's crucial to note that contrary to some online reviews, the campground itself does not have full hookups with sewer connections at each site, as confirmed by a recent customer. The website information regarding hookups should be considered the most accurate source.
For waste disposal, the campground provides two dump stations to serve over 200 campsites. This limited number of dump stations can lead to congestion, particularly on check-out days after a busy weekend, as highlighted in one of the reviews. Campers should plan accordingly, especially during peak seasons, to avoid potential delays. The helpfulness of the staff is consistently praised in the reviews, with one camper specifically mentioning their assistance with various needs. This positive aspect of customer service can significantly enhance the overall camping experience.
The features of the Kentucky Horse Park Campground extend beyond the basic amenities. Its prime location within the Kentucky Horse Park offers campers unparalleled access to the park's attractions. Visitors can explore the International Museum of the Horse, attend equestrian events and shows, take horse-drawn trolley tours, and learn about the rich history and culture of the horse industry. This unique integration with a major tourist destination sets the Kentucky Horse Park Campground apart from many other "camping near me" options. The presence of playgrounds is also mentioned in a review as a positive feature, making it an appealing choice for families with children.
While specific promotional information was not provided in the input, potential local users should check the Kentucky Horse Park's official website or contact the campground directly for any seasonal specials, discounts for local residents, or package deals that might include park admission and camping fees. Given the positive feedback regarding the October activities, it's worth inquiring about any planned events or themed weekends that could enhance your camping experience, especially during the fall season.
In summary, the Kentucky Horse Park Campground offers a unique camping opportunity for local users seeking a getaway that combines natural beauty with access to world-class equestrian attractions. While some aspects, such as the lack of individual sewer hookups and potential for muddy sites or dump station congestion, should be considered, the helpful staff, convenient on-site septic service, and proximity to the Kentucky Horse Park's amenities make it a compelling choice for many. For those searching for "camping near me" with a distinctive flavor, the Kentucky Horse Park Campground provides an experience unlike any other. Remember to verify site conditions and availability when booking your stay and be mindful of potential wait times at the dump stations, especially during peak periods. By planning ahead and being aware of the campground's specific features and services, local campers can enjoy a memorable and enjoyable stay at this unique Kentucky destination.

Kentucky Horse Park Campground Reviews
I give this a 4 Star ONLY because they need sewer hook ups. They do have a local septic business that can come pump you at your site and you don't have to move which is nice. The staff is always helpful with things you may need and the October activities they plan are the absolute BEST! We stayed here this fall and I wanted to show you the beautiful "Trees of the Horse Park Campground!" The weather has been absolutely fantastic! Thank you Horse Park Staff for a great stay!!
Oct 28, 2024 · David HopewellAll of the glowing reviews for this park has to be from people of are horse fanatics. The campground is a hot mess. Yes the staff is friendly and the playgrounds are nice but that is where it ends. The sites them selves are mud pits. Then the pads are cracked and uneven. If you have a larger rig then you are gonna add to the mud pit because you will have to park in the grass next to your rig. Then there are the review lies. There are NO sewer hookups. Yes the website says this but reviewers on here say that they have full hookups. This makes people think that maybe the website hasn’t been updated. Speaking of sewer issues, the campground only has two dump stations to accommodate 200+ camping sites. So guess what happens on check out days after a long weekend. Grid lock and rigs meeting each other going the wrong way into oncoming traffic trying to leave and/or get to the dump station. You are at the World Equestrian Games site KY Horse Park Campground. Do better!!!
Apr 13, 2025 · Tom CrimsonGreat campground, LARGE lots with asphalt pads. The pads are 6" tall so some rv's will have a rather tall first step (im going to buy a portable step like my brothers) that's the only negative thing I can say about this place. Lots of shade trees, benchs and fire rings. Nice campground store with clean ADA bathhouses. Basketball courts, pool and a Hugh playground. No sewer hookups so a line at the dump station on Sunday mornings. I am camping with a large group of family and friends so we had 5 travel trailers along the paved road, quite nice.Highly recommend !
Nov 03, 2024 · Renault SmithFantastic campground for kids. Several playgrounds, pool, well kept bathhouses, stocked general store and relatively flat for bicycles. We were one of the few tent campers in the main loops. No reservations aloud at the primitive sites. Loop A and C work best for us, placing our tent further away from the camper/RVs and under the large shade trees. Easy bike access to the pond/arenas/museums/visitor center via the Electric Primitive Campground and connecting Greenway beyond. About ten minute bike ride with our six & eight year old. Don't forget to purchase your discounted KY Horse Park tickets at the camp general store prior to venturing out.
Aug 19, 2024 · Vick CarsonI stayed at spot 86. It was a mud pit. The bathrooms are a hike away from that spot. There were plenty of showers and seemed nice. Warm water. They are building the Southern Lights displays and it was pretty cool walking out to see completed ones, the super loud impact guns or whatever monstrosity they use to build them was not cool at all at 7am.
