What a great park - one of GA finest.... we had a little change of plans and converted a stay from an RV site to a cottage, and it was just a phone call away and smooth! The cottage is phenomenal! A wonderland experience! Spacious, warm, cozy, all the amenities needed for a long, comfy stay. Right on the lake - which has a walking path around, View anytime of the day was spectacular. We've set by the fire ring a lot, cooked out on, viewing the lake... so wonderful!! The cottage has a huge screened in back porch, too, which goes great with morning coffee! Only down side to this place is we have to leave! There is plenty to do, yakn, fishing, great walking... do yourself a favor and come here a few days... It'll change your view on life!!PERSONAL NOTE: I give a single star because of one reason... you are not allowed to collect dead wood off the ground for a campfire! Ugh, duh? You have to buy it from them, or within 50miles of - which means if you're camping around the state more than likely you can't take your 'special' firewood with you!! And the reasonings are (from website): 1. Keeping people from cutting live trees, 2. Stopping the spread of harmful bugs. NEWS ALLERT... instead of punishing responsible people, make rules to stop irresponsible people - fine them $1000.00/jail time per, that would sure stop me!! And as far as bugs, you better kill every bird and animal around that travel and migrate more than 50miles for they carry far more insects than humans! It's called nature!!! - Michael Venning

The environment of Fort Yargo State Park Campground is consistently praised for its natural beauty. Situated right on a lake, the campground offers spectacular views at any time of day. One reviewer who stayed in a cottage highlighted the "wonderland experience" of being lakeside, with a walking path encircling the water. This proximity to the lake provides opportunities for various water-based activities such as kayaking and fishing, making it a prime location for those who enjoy being near the water. Beyond the lake, the park boasts beautiful trails, as mentioned by a camper who participated in the Fort Yargo 50k race. These trails are described as scenic and well-suited for activities like hiking. The campsites themselves are noted for being "very well shaded," "huge," and offering a good degree of "privacy," enhancing the natural and tranquil camping experience. The overall impression is of a well-maintained park that showcases the natural beauty of Georgia.

These cottages boast features like a "huge screened-in back porch," perfect for enjoying morning coffee with a lake view, and access to a fire ring for outdoor enjoyment and cooking. A unique feature, though met with some criticism by one reviewer, is the park's policy regarding firewood. Campers are reportedly not allowed to collect dead wood from the ground for campfires and must either purchase firewood from the park or from a source within a 50-mile radius. The park's reasoning, as stated on their website according to the reviewer, is to prevent the cutting of live trees and to stop the spread of harmful bugs. While one reviewer strongly disagreed with this policy, it's an important feature for local users to be aware of when planning their camping experience, especially if they typically rely on collecting firewood.

Promotional information can be gleaned from the overwhelmingly positive aspects highlighted in the reviews. The park is described as "one of GA finest," emphasizing its high quality and appeal. The "wonderland experience" offered by the cottages and the "wonderful" times spent by the lake and fire ring serve as strong endorsements. The cleanliness and maintenance of the campground, along with the spacious and private campsites, are also significant selling points. The positive experiences of both RV campers (who switched to a cottage) and tent campers (participating in a race) suggest a broad appeal across different camping styles. The easy reservation process and the helpful staff further enhance the park's attractiveness. Despite the firewood policy, the overall sentiment encourages others to "do yourself a favor and come here a few days... It'll change your view on life!!"
