Fourth of July Campground

Carson, WA 98610, USA

My parents took me up here back when it had the tower at the top. Rough road.Don't get caught up there in deer fly season. The area gets thick with em.There are ONLY black bears. Deer stalk the campground for food, too close. They pissed all over the cooler after we went to sleep.I know someone who went missing up there for 24hrs. They found their way back to camp. They went on to merry my manager. On the 4th on a clear night you can see the fireworks. - Jonathan Wallace

Fourth of July Campground Introduce

For those searching for "camping near me" in the Carson, Washington area, the Fourth of July Campground, located in Carson, WA 98610, USA, presents a unique camping experience with both appealing aspects and important considerations. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground offers a blend of natural beauty and potential challenges that prospective campers should be aware of.

The environment of Fourth of July Campground is described as a "large open area with some ‘peek-a-boo’ views into the valley." This suggests a landscape that is not heavily forested directly within the camping area, offering more expansive views rather than secluded, shaded campsites. The lack of significant tree cover means campers should be prepared for "full sun," which could be a benefit during cooler times of the year but a potential drawback during hot summer months. One review mentions a "rough road" leading to the campground, indicating that access might be challenging for some vehicles, particularly larger rigs, although another review notes that it's "definitely easier to access driving westbound on NF-41 than eastbound (especially for larger rigs)." This suggests that the approach route can significantly impact ease of access.

The services and features of Fourth of July Campground are somewhat implied through the reviews rather than explicitly stated. The presence of a campground suggests designated camping spots, although the nature of these (e.g., tent pads, fire rings, picnic tables) is not detailed. The mention of wildlife, including black bears and deer, indicates that campers should expect to be in an area where these animals are active, necessitating proper food storage and awareness of wildlife safety guidelines. One review humorously recounts deer "pissed all over the cooler," highlighting the boldness of the local deer in seeking food. The historical mention of a "tower at the top" suggests a past feature that may no longer be present, but it hints at the potential for elevated views or a landmark associated with the area. The quiet and peaceful atmosphere during the week is noted as a positive feature, likely appealing to those seeking a tranquil camping experience away from crowds.

A significant feature of the Fourth of July Campground, as its name implies and one review confirms, is the potential to see fireworks on the 4th of July, particularly on a clear night. This could be a major draw for those camping during the holiday period, offering a unique vantage point for local celebrations. However, it's important to note that this is a seasonal and weather-dependent feature.

Several concerns and considerations are also highlighted in the reviews. The issue of trash left behind by other campers is a disappointing aspect mentioned by one reviewer, indicating a potential lack of adherence to Leave No Trace principles by some visitors. The strong warning about "deer fly season," during which the area reportedly gets "thick with em," is a crucial piece of environmental information for potential campers, suggesting that planning a trip outside of this season might be advisable for those sensitive to insect bites. The presence of black bears, with the specific note that "there are ONLY black bears," underscores the need for bear safety precautions, such as using bear-resistant containers for food and being aware of bear activity in the area. The anecdote about someone going missing for 24 hours, though they returned safely and later married someone related to the reviewer, serves as a cautionary tale about the potential for getting lost in the surrounding area, emphasizing the importance of hiking safety and staying aware of one's surroundings.

Promotional information for Fourth of July Campground is not explicitly available in the provided reviews. Typically, campgrounds might promote themselves based on scenic views, specific amenities, proximity to attractions, or unique features like the fireworks viewing. Given the open environment with valley views and the potential for seeing fireworks, these could be aspects that the campground might highlight. However, without official promotional material, this remains speculative. The quiet and peaceful weekdays could also be a selling point for those seeking a more secluded experience during the week.

The contrasting experiences and warnings in the reviews suggest that Fourth of July Campground is a location that requires careful planning and awareness. The lack of tree cover necessitates preparation for sun exposure. The rough road and potentially challenging eastbound access on NF-41 should be considered when choosing a vehicle and route. The active wildlife, particularly black bears and deer, demands adherence to safety guidelines to prevent encounters and protect personal belongings. The seasonal issue of deer flies should also influence the timing of visits for some campers. Despite these challenges, the "pretty great" sentiment of one reviewer and the potential for fireworks viewing indicate that the campground has its merits, particularly for those who appreciate open landscapes and a quieter setting during the week.

For those searching for "camping near me" in the Carson, WA area, Fourth of July Campground offers a unique experience characterized by open valley views and the potential to witness fireworks on the Fourth of July. However, prospective campers must be prepared for the environment, including the lack of shade and the presence of wildlife such as black bears and deer. Awareness of deer fly season and the potentially rough road access is also crucial. While the campground offers a quiet and peaceful atmosphere during the week, visitors should also be mindful of leaving no trace to maintain the area's beauty. Further research into specific amenities, fees, and current conditions might be beneficial before planning a trip to Fourth of July Campground.
