Fox Creek Horse Camp Introduce
Are you a local equestrian enthusiast looking for "camping near me" that caters to both you and your horses? Consider Fox Creek Horse Camp, located at 3078 Fairwood Rd, Troutdale, VA 24378, USA. While the available information is somewhat limited, it provides insights into the environment, some aspects of its services, and key features relevant to those interested in camping with horses.
One of the primary takeaways from the reviews is the camp's emphasis on equestrian activities, as indicated by its name "Horse Camp" and the comparison made by a reviewer to "Uwarrhie," another horse camp. This suggests that Fox Creek Horse Camp likely offers facilities and access suitable for horseback riding, such as trails and potentially hitching posts or other amenities for horses. For local users in the "camping near me" category who own horses and are seeking a place to camp and ride, this focus is a significant feature.
In terms of the environment, one reviewer described the location as having an "Excellent location, beautiful scenery." This suggests that campers can expect picturesque surroundings, likely in the natural landscapes of the Troutdale, Virginia area. This would be a strong draw for anyone looking for a scenic "camping near me" experience, especially those who enjoy exploring the outdoors on horseback.
Regarding services and features, one review notes, "cons - no power/primitive." This indicates that Fox Creek Horse Camp operates on a more primitive level, meaning there are likely no electrical hookups available at the campsites. Campers should be prepared for this by bringing their own power sources if needed, such as generators or battery packs. The lack of power also likely implies that other amenities might be basic, similar to other primitive campgrounds.
The same reviewer also mentioned another con: "manure removal was not convenient." This is a specific point relevant to those camping with horses. It suggests that the process for managing horse manure at the campsites might not be as straightforward or convenient as some might prefer. Equestrian campers should be aware of this and potentially come prepared with their own methods for handling manure in accordance with the camp's guidelines.
A separate review highlighted a specific rule regarding generator usage: "There is a new rule that you can only run your generator 2 hrs. At a time during the day so as not to disturb those in the campground that don't ride horses." This is an important piece of information for campers who rely on generators for power, especially those who might want to run them for longer periods to power RV amenities like air conditioning, particularly if traveling with pets. The rule seems to aim to balance the needs of different types of campers, including those who are not there for horse-related activities. This might be a consideration for those who prioritize having continuous power during their camping trip.
The reviewer who mentioned the generator rule also stated, "We like to carry or dogs with us. We usually leave them in the living quarters with the AC on and we may ride more than 2 hrs." This illustrates how the generator rule could impact campers traveling with pets who require climate control for their comfort and safety, especially during longer periods away from the campsite while riding. This highlights the need for potential visitors to understand and consider this rule when planning their stay.
Based on the available information, we can summarize the environment, services, and features of Fox Creek Horse Camp for local users seeking "camping near me," particularly those interested in equestrian camping:
- Environment: Located in an area with "beautiful scenery" and an "excellent location." Likely situated in a natural setting conducive to horseback riding.
- Services: Primitive camping with no power hookups. Manure removal may not be convenient for those camping with horses. There is a rule limiting generator usage to 2 hours at a time during the day.

Fox Creek Horse Camp Reviews
I only have one issue. There is a new rule that you can only run your generator 2 hrs. At a time during the day so as not to disturb those in the campground that don't ride horses. We like to carry or dogs with us. We usually leave them in the living quarters with the AC on and we may ride more than 2 hrs. Even though it's a horse camp just like Uwarrhie, we have to cater to the ones that want rules to accommodate them just for being there.
