Hickory Ridge Campground Reviews
Campground was easy to access in large RV, but roads up were a little scary if choosing a large vehicle :) Decent bathrooms and showers. The park has been on my list to visit, and it did not disappoint. Absolutely beautiful. My family hiked the 9 mile summit trail. We were able to see a herd of ponies with foals and a group of the long horned cattle. Although we took a picture of the trail map and that the trail is clearly marked, there are a few areas with a lot of intersections that could be confusing if you are not paying close attention. This was one of my favorite hikes.
Jul 22, 2023 · Amanda Lentz-RonningThis is a great campground with super friendly hosts! The sites are a little tight, but still pretty great. We also manage a campground and greatly appreciate when the hosts are welcoming and friendly. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were hot. Only a 2 mile walk or drive to see the wild ponies.
Oct 04, 2023 · Candie SmithMarci the Head Ranger is hospitable and more than capable in a demanding career. Thank you, Marci for your kindness after the severe storm. This is a great campground, with numerous trails, including a chance to see the ponies. We will be back!
Oct 08, 2024 · David HughesSpent four days here hiking the trails. The camp site was nice size and fit my 34' camper just fine. The fire pits at campsites, need to have a concrete base. It was raining on and off while there. So the fire pit would fill with water, making the pit useless at night when not raining. Also spend $8 for firewood from campground host, which would not stay burning. Also who cleans the showers? Someone had left there items on day 2 of my stay. They where still there after day 4. There is a nice little general store. can can pick up some needed items. Would I stay here again, yes, but I'll be visiting different parks first.
Sep 05, 2023 · Timothy B (T-Bone)Grayson highlands park is absolutely beautiful, and worth the trip! The campsite was okay at best. The sites are small, too close together, and you cannot choose your site until arrival. We were only provided with one parking pass, despite having a 2 vehicle per site allowance. I paid for a pass the first night, and when I asked for that fee to be reimbursed they would not do it.The camp hosts are mostly unavailable. I was unable to find them to purchase wood in the evening and the following morning. I saw them drive by twice with a bundle on their golf cart, but they passed us without stopping even after trying to flag them down. We actually purchased several bundles of wood from the general store and it was MOLDY.We went hiking with our dogs for most of the day. Upon returning we secured them at our site and started preparing lunch. The camp host drove by our site slowly, then the woman urged her husband to stop the golf cart. They stopped for a few minutes before driving on, causing the dog to bark. A few minutes later he started barking again, and there was the camp host standing there. She states they'd had complaints of dogs barking since 10am. We had been gone with our dogs from 7am-almost 1:00 PM. It was clear she enjoys antagonizing the dogs to make them bark as it was the only time they had an issue. She then introduced herself as the camp host-although I never witnessed anything host like or welcoming from the two of them.We will return for a day trip, but will not return for camping.
