Free Your Mind Camping Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in Northern California, seeking a tranquil and remote location that offers a respite from the everyday and a chance to connect with nature? Free Your Mind Camping, located at 1650 French Hill Rd, Gasquet, CA 95543, presents an opportunity for a peaceful camping experience in close proximity to the majestic Redwood National and State Parks and the Smith River. This introduction aims to provide a detailed overview of Free Your Mind Camping, drawing upon the available customer reviews to highlight its environment, services, features, and any potential drawbacks, to help you determine if it's the right camping destination for you.
Nestled in the remote area of Gasquet, California, Free Your Mind Camping boasts an environment that is truly away from the hustle and bustle of settlements. This secluded location offers a significant advantage for those seeking tranquility and an immersive natural experience. One of the standout features of this remoteness, as highlighted by a camper, is the exceptional opportunity for stargazing. Being far from city lights, campers can expect to witness a breathtaking display of the night sky, making it a potentially magical experience for astronomy enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates the beauty of a star-filled night.
The campground's proximity to the renowned Redwood National and State Parks is another significant environmental benefit. These parks are home to some of the tallest and most ancient trees on Earth, offering miles of hiking trails through awe-inspiring redwood forests, scenic drives, and opportunities for wildlife viewing. Additionally, the campground is a short drive from river access, likely referring to the pristine Smith River, known for its clear waters and recreational opportunities such as swimming, fishing, and kayaking. This strategic location allows campers at Free Your Mind Camping to easily explore the natural wonders of the region.
While the platform category is "camping near me," Free Your Mind Camping appears to offer a more rustic and self-sufficient camping experience. The reviews mention specific campsites, such as the "Fischer site" which is described as "nice and clean with a clearing big enough for a 10x10 tent." This suggests that the campground caters primarily to tent campers. While RVs might be accommodated, the reviews do not provide specific information on RV hookups or amenities. Therefore, those searching for full-service RV parks might need to inquire directly or consider other options in the area.
The services and features at Free Your Mind Camping seem to prioritize basic necessities and a connection with nature. A notable positive aspect mentioned by a camper is the host's provision of "potable drinking water jar and water for dousing fire in fire pit." This thoughtful gesture of providing drinking water, especially in a remote location, is a significant convenience and demonstrates a considerate host. The provision of water for fire safety is also commendable, emphasizing responsible camping practices.
Campers also appreciated the presence of a "toilet setup" and a "shower," which add a level of convenience often valued in more rustic campgrounds. The availability of a shower, in particular, can greatly enhance the comfort of a longer camping trip. Additionally, one review mentions that the "camp site also had a large water container for washing hands and bundle of firewood with kindling," further indicating that the hosts provide essential resources for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
However, the reviews also point out some areas that could be improved. A significant "con" mentioned by a camper is that "the manual lock at main entry tends to get stuck and can’t open the gate." This could be a source of considerable frustration for arriving or departing campers, potentially causing delays and inconvenience. It is something prospective visitors should be aware of and perhaps inquire about the current status of before their visit.
Another area for potential improvement is "the bathroom situation," although the specifics of what needs improvement are not detailed in the reviews. This suggests that while a toilet and shower are available, the facilities might be basic or could benefit from upgrades in terms of cleanliness, maintenance, or accessibility. Campers who prioritize well-maintained bathroom facilities might want to seek further information or manage their expectations accordingly.
Navigating to the campground seems to require attention to directions. One reviewer noted that "Google Maps took me to the owners house, which is one road past the campground entrance." They advise others to "just go through the gate with the campground sign" and to be prepared for "a lock on it so you'll need the combo to get in." This highlights the importance of obtaining clear and accurate directions and the gate combination from the host prior to arrival to avoid any confusion or delays.
Overall, the atmosphere at Free Your Mind Camping is described as "really quiet," which is a significant draw for those seeking a peaceful and relaxing camping experience away from noise and crowds. The combination of a remote location, proximity to natural attractions, and the provision of essential amenities makes it an appealing option for nature lovers and those looking to explore the Redwood region.

Free Your Mind Camping Reviews
Remote location. Can see stars at night because it’s far from settlements. Some campsites don’t have as much privacy. We got lucky with Woozle. Host is kind to provide potable drinking water jar and water for dousing fire in fire pit. That’s the first I’ve seen.Cons: the manual lock at main entry tends to get stuck and can’t open the gate. It was frustrating. The bathroom situation could be improved.
Jul 09, 2024 · PuruThe campground is nice and clean with a clearing big enough for a 10x10 tent at the Fischer site. Google Maps took me to the owners house, which is one road past the campground entrance. Just go through the gate with the campground sign. There's a lock on it so you'll need the combo to get in. It's really quiet there and they also have a toilet setup which is really convenient. There is a shower too. The place is a short drive from Redwood trails and river access. We had an awesome time and will definitely be coming back. The camp site also had a large water container for washing hands and bundle of firewood with kindling. Really cool.
Jul 07, 2023 · Jeremy K.I stayed in Bear campsite. It is quite small - I could not fit a hammock and a tent at the same time. Also, there was not much privacy - the picnic table is right close to all the other campsites. Toilet is great, and there is a running water hose right close to the camping spot, which is great. I think if I was the only one staying there I would have just loved it.
Jul 02, 2023 · Maria ChaderinaFree-Your-Mind-Camping was absolutely beautiful! My husband and I are doing a cross country trip and camping along our way to save $, and this was worth the $50! The campsites are private and quiet, and can hear all the animals throughout the night, it’s so peaceful. They provide starter and fire wood, drinking water, a picnic table, and a covered bathroom spot! I would absolutely camp here again! The owners of the property are very communicative, kind, and helpful! Thank you so much Renee, Carlos and Kirk! 🤍🌲
