Crescent City / Redwoods KOA Holiday Introduce
If you're searching for 'camping near me' in the stunning region of Crescent City, California, with the majestic Redwood National Park as your backdrop, the Crescent City / Redwoods KOA Holiday located at 4241 US-101, Crescent City, CA 95531, USA, is one option to consider. As part of the well-known KOA network, this campground aims to provide a variety of accommodation options and amenities for travelers exploring the area's natural beauty. However, recent customer feedback suggests that potential visitors should be aware of certain aspects of the campground experience.
The campground boasts a potentially appealing setting with redwood trees and gravel roads, contributing to a rustic and natural ambiance. It offers a range of accommodation types, including RV sites, tent sites, and small cabins, catering to different preferences and travel styles. The presence of small cabins suggests an option for those seeking a more sheltered experience while still enjoying the outdoors. Additionally, the mention of a "half jack dog park" indicates that the campground is pet-friendly, which is a significant plus for travelers with furry companions.
However, several recent reviews highlight significant concerns regarding site conditions, amenities, and customer service. One reviewer who had booked a 50-amp pull-through site reported being moved to a back-in site upon arrival due to a septic issue. This change was accompanied by a site that was described as not being well-maintained, with overgrown bushes significantly encroaching on the usable space. The reviewer noted having to request maintenance to trim the vegetation, which took over an hour. Even after trimming, the site was deemed too small for a 32ft fifth-wheel RV, with limited space for stairs and slide-outs, and very close proximity to a neighboring RV. This experience suggests that some RV sites may be smaller than advertised or may not adequately accommodate larger rigs, and that site maintenance could be inconsistent.
Adding to the negative experience, the same reviewer reported a complete lack of water the following morning, affecting the entire campground, including the dump station. This indicates a potential issue with the campground's infrastructure and reliability of essential utilities, which could significantly impact the comfort and convenience of guests.
Another deeply concerning review shared a distressing experience related to customer service and communication. A long-time loyal KOA customer recounted trying to contact the campground multiple times by phone without success during a personal family tragedy. An email explaining the situation also went unanswered initially. When contact was finally made, the reviewer described a lack of empathy and a rushed demeanor from the staff member. Furthermore, attempts to adjust the reservation due to the circumstances were met with unclear information and a subsequent inability to reach anyone at the campground despite numerous phone calls and emails. This lack of communication and apparent insensitivity during a difficult time has understandably left a lasting negative impression.
Based on these recent reviews, while the Crescent City / Redwoods KOA Holiday may offer a visually appealing environment with its redwood trees and a variety of accommodation options, potential guests should be aware of potential drawbacks. These include the possibility of smaller or poorly maintained RV sites, potential issues with essential utilities like water, and concerns regarding the responsiveness and empathy of the customer service.
The positive aspects mentioned, such as the rustic setting, cabin rentals, and pet-friendly policy, might still appeal to certain types of campers, particularly those with tents or smaller RVs who prioritize the natural environment. However, it is crucial for prospective visitors to weigh these potential benefits against the reported issues with site suitability, maintenance, and customer service.
For those specifically searching for 'RV parks near me' in the Crescent City area, it would be prudent to inquire in detail about the specific dimensions and layout of the RV sites when making a reservation, especially if traveling with a larger rig. It would also be wise to inquire about the current status of utilities and any ongoing maintenance or infrastructure concerns.
If you are primarily interested in tent camping or cabin rentals and value a rustic setting near the Redwoods, this KOA might still be a viable option. However, the reported issues with communication suggest that confirming reservations and any special requests in writing might be particularly important.
Given the mixed feedback, it is recommended that potential guests contact the Crescent City / Redwoods KOA Holiday directly at (707) 464-5744 or +1 707-464-5744 to get the most current information on site availability, amenities, and any recent updates or improvements. Asking specific questions based on your individual needs and travel setup will be essential in making an informed decision about whether this campground is the right fit for your 'camping near me' experience in the Redwood region.
In conclusion, while the Crescent City / Redwoods KOA Holiday benefits from its location near the Redwood National Park and offers a range of accommodation options in a rustic setting, recent customer reviews indicate potential challenges related to site conditions, utility reliability, and customer service responsiveness. Potential visitors should carefully consider these factors and directly communicate with the campground to ensure it meets their expectations for their camping experience.

Crescent City / Redwoods KOA Holiday Reviews
I was scheduled to get a 50 amp pull through, when I arrived I was told they had an issue with the septic. I was put into a back in but the site has not been gardening maintained so I had a foot between the bushes, I called the front desk and was met with a super lacking response of "well we are full, maybe try restarting your back in" !I found the maintenance team and I was able to get him to trim the site, it took 45 minutes for him to cut back all the shrubs and another 20 minutes to pickup. The site was definitely too small for my 32ft 5R.I adjusted my rig a few times to just get a spot where my stairs come out and my main slide out even with all that trimmed I still only had about a foot between the bushes not to mention this back in site had a neighbor behind me like 3.5 feet from my rear to their rear.Next morning I go to flush and what no water! The entire campground was without water not even the onsite dump station. The park itself is pretty cool with redwood and gravel roads and small cabins, it was a good size but had really small sites and a half jack dog park. If you want rustic tent or cabins this is your spot. This place needs a lot of work.
Apr 30, 2025 · Gabriel CarneyI’ve always been a loyal KOA customer, but after my recent experience, I’m incredibly disappointed by the lack of communication, empathy, and overall poor customer service. Two days in a row, I tried calling the campground with no response. The situation was already stressful: my daughter went into preterm labor and tragically lost her baby on the morning of our check-in. I emailed the facility early in the day, explaining the situation, but received no response.Later that afternoon, someone from the campground called me to ask if we were keeping our reservation. I explained the heartbreaking circumstances, but the person on the phone showed no empathy whatsoever. She seemed in a rush to get off the phone and barely acknowledged the situation. I wasn’t even asking for a full refund—just more than $30 on a $220+ reservation seemed unreasonable under the circumstances.Because my reservation was for a cabin and the other part of our group had a tent site, I offered to let them take our cabin to help ease their stay. The person on the phone said this might be possible, but they would lose some of the money the other group paid. She asked me to call back once I had decided what to do. However, despite calling at least 20 times after that, no one answered the phone or responded to my emails. This experience was not just frustrating but deeply hurtful during an already painful time. I’ve always supported KOA, but this lack of sympathy and poor communication has left a lasting negative impact on me and my family.
Mar 25, 2025 · Gabriela ZapienThe location was great! I was car camping and got to wake up looking through my panoramic sunroof right at redwoods. It was in an off season so the office was closed when I arrived and when I left which sucked. (closed at 3pm) Bathroom was clean.Only bad thing is because it's off season not much in near by city was closed early.
Mar 05, 2025 · Laura RisheillUpon arrival we used the restrooms and found them dirty. Shower was clogged with 4 inches standing water in the mens room. At 4am we noticed a guy showering then quickly left in truck out front??? We love the location and sites but it does need TLC to maintain the value. Trash cans are full and tree debris needs to be cleaned up. I hope we can continue to recommend this campground to our friends and family.
Apr 19, 2025 · Rob CDecent enough. A little older KOA, but still has plenty to keep the kids occupied on your way through. Quiet nights sleep...most important. Dog park, walking trails, and playground for little ones. They are in the process of sprucing things up. Some good sized Redwoods on the property. Definitely would stay here again.
