Panther Flat Campground Introduce
Seeking an exceptional "camping near me" experience in the heart of Northern California's natural beauty? Panther Flat Campground, situated at 11000 US-199, Gasquet, CA 95543, USA, offers a compelling option for those looking to immerse themselves in the wilderness near the renowned Smith River. As a National Forest campground, Panther Flat typically provides a well-maintained environment and access to the stunning natural landscapes that characterize this region. You can reach them at (707) 457-3131 or +1 707-457-3131 for inquiries.
The environment surrounding Panther Flat Campground is a significant draw for visitors. Located near the Smith River, the campground likely benefits from the river's pristine waters and the lush forests that often accompany such waterways in Northern California. The Smith River is known for its exceptional clarity, scenic beauty, and opportunities for fishing and other water-based activities. Campers at Panther Flat can anticipate being surrounded by towering trees, diverse flora and fauna typical of a National Forest, and the potential for enjoying the natural sounds of the river and the forest. The proximity to the Smith River also suggests opportunities for hiking along its banks and exploring the adjacent wilderness areas.
Based on customer reviews, Panther Flat Campground offers several notable services and features. One reviewer highlights "clean restrooms with pay shower," indicating that while basic hygiene facilities are available, a fee might be associated with shower usage. This is a common feature in many National Forest campgrounds where maintaining such amenities requires resources. The presence of clean restrooms is generally a positive indicator of campground upkeep.
Another significant feature mentioned is the ability of some sites to accommodate RVs up to 30 feet. This makes Panther Flat Campground a viable option for RV travelers seeking "camping near me" with their recreational vehicles. However, the reviewer's wish for year-round reservations, particularly due to their trailer length, suggests that availability for larger RVs might be limited or that reservations are not consistently offered throughout the year. It is advisable for RV campers to inquire about site availability and reservation policies well in advance, especially during peak seasons.
The positive feedback regarding the current campground hosts working hard to keep the campground nice speaks to the level of maintenance and care provided at Panther Flat. Dedicated hosts often contribute significantly to the overall camping experience by ensuring cleanliness, providing information, and maintaining a pleasant atmosphere. This positive aspect can greatly enhance a camper's stay and contribute to a more enjoyable environment for everyone.
However, one recent review from 2024 and 2025 presents a contrasting experience. While the 2024 visit was described as "lovely" with a clean site, hot showers, and a "divine" location, the 2025 visit was marred by significant noise pollution from a gas-powered leaf blower. The reviewer reported hours of disruptive noise on multiple days, including a Saturday morning, which detracted significantly from the peaceful wilderness experience typically sought during camping trips. This negative experience led the reviewer to state they would not return, emphasizing the importance of peace and quiet in a natural setting.
This recent negative feedback regarding noise is a crucial point for prospective campers to consider. While the campground is praised for its cleanliness and location, the potential for prolonged periods of disruptive noise could impact the overall camping experience. It is unclear whether this was an isolated incident or a more regular occurrence. Individuals seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience might want to inquire about the campground's maintenance schedules or any policies in place to minimize noise pollution during visitor stays.
Despite this concern, the positive aspects of Panther Flat Campground, such as its proximity to the Smith River, well-maintained facilities (clean restrooms), and RV-friendly sites, remain attractive. The Smith River itself offers numerous recreational opportunities, including fishing, kayaking, and swimming in designated areas. The surrounding National Forest provides ample opportunities for hiking, nature viewing, and exploring the diverse ecosystems of Northern California.
As no specific promotional information is provided, it is recommended to contact Panther Flat Campground directly at the provided phone numbers to inquire about current rates, reservation policies, seasonal availability, and any specific guidelines or recommendations for visitors. Asking about potential noise concerns and the typical maintenance schedules might also be beneficial in setting expectations for your camping trip.
In conclusion, Panther Flat Campground near Gasquet, CA, offers a well-located "camping near me" option for those wishing to explore the Smith River area and enjoy the natural beauty of a National Forest. It provides essential amenities like clean restrooms and accommodates RVs up to a certain length. While past experiences have been largely positive regarding cleanliness and location, a recent report of significant noise pollution from maintenance activities is a factor that prospective campers should be aware of and potentially inquire about before planning their visit. Overall, Panther Flat Campground presents a base for enjoying the outdoor recreation opportunities of the Smith River region, but it is advisable to gather the most up-to-date information to ensure a satisfactory camping experience.

Panther Flat Campground Reviews
Excellent, well maintained National Forest campground near the Smith River.Clean restrooms with pay shower. Some sites will accommodate an RV up to 30 feet, such as our 30' travel trailer. The current hosts worked hard at keeping the campground nice.My only minor complaint is that I wish they allowed reservations all year, as our trailer length makes planning ahead often less stressful.
Oct 20, 2024 · Carl StrohmeyerCame here in 2024, had a lovely, lovely time. The site is clean, the showers are hot, and the location is divine. But we visited again this year and had a drastically different experience. We stayed Tues-Monday. The only day that didn't have hours, literally hours, of noise coming from a gas-powered leaf blower was Sunday. It echoed through the campground making it hard to hold a conversation. It drove us out of our campsite to seek peace elsewhere on more than one day. When it happened Wed-Fri, I thought maybe they were preparing for the weekend but it happened Saturday morning too starting at 9am. I go camping for peace and quiet of the wilderness, not endure the fluctuating roar of a 90 decibel leaf blower for hours on end. Sad to say, we won't be returning because I won't risk our much anticipated vacation being ruined by this nuisance again.
Apr 30, 2025 · Michelle RWe really enjoyed our stay at Panther Flat Campground. The swimming hole on the Smith River is deep and water is very cold. Very refreshing to take a swim in. The campground itself is very clean and well taken care of. Campground has showers available and the bathrooms are well maintained. The sites have a good amount of space and are separated enough between campers that you feel like your not camping right on top of another site. Be mindful that at certain times there are fire bans in effect and this means no campfire or charcoal bbq’s. Overall I highly recommend this campground for a family vacation spot.
Aug 21, 2024 · Louis HubbardNice place to camp. Lots of trees to help keep it cool on hot days. Good swimming hole pretty crowded but nice for swimming. They need to develop another trail the the first swimming hole could not find a way to it. The trail was washed out. Was a bummer no running water other than the flush toilets this season but the camp host had a large tank of water we could fill our containers with.
Jul 06, 2018 · Marlo FullertonLots of "first come, first serve" spots at $15 a night. Campground Host was friendly and took good care of the camp. Real bathrooms were available and limited fresh water, and possibly coin operated showers (though I didn't personally use the shower, it looked nice and clean). Each camp spot was clearly marked with a paved parking spot, picnic bench, and firepit. Lots of available loose wood to use for fires and most spots had lots of trees between the next one so you felt pretty secluded. The river is right there and made for a nice walk. Best to drive a truck or car, but RVs and trailers for easily into most spots too.
