Looking for the perfect group camping destination near you? French Gulch Group Campsite, located at 2600 CA-155, Lake Isabella, CA 93240, offers a range of appealing features for those searching for 'Camping Near Me.' Situated with a nice view overlooking the picturesque Lake Isabella, this campsite provides a blend of natural beauty and convenient amenities, making it a strong contender for your next group camping adventure. With a contact phone number of (760) 376-1269 or +1 760-376-1269, reaching out for reservations or inquiries is straightforward.
The environment at French Gulch Group Campsite is characterized by its stunning views of Lake Isabella and the surrounding beautiful scenery. Imagine waking up to the sight of the lake shimmering in the morning light, or gathering with your group to enjoy the sunset over the water. The campsite benefits from a great breeze, particularly noticeable up by the fire ring, which can make your outdoor experience more comfortable, especially during warmer days. This refreshing breeze adds to the overall appeal of the location, creating a pleasant atmosphere for relaxation and socializing.
One of the standout features mentioned by visitors is the presence of a "nice pavilion" and a "paved fire ring." The pavilion likely provides a covered area for gatherings, meal preparation, or shelter from the elements, enhancing the functionality of the group campsite. A paved fire ring offers a designated and safer space for campfires, essential for cooking, warmth, and the quintessential camping experience. These thoughtful additions contribute to the convenience and enjoyment of group camping at French Gulch.
Cleanliness and comfort are also highlighted in the reviews, with specific mention of "nice clean large bathrooms with showers." Access to clean and spacious bathroom facilities, including showers, is a significant amenity, especially for group camping where hygiene and comfort are important considerations. This feature elevates French Gulch Group Campsite above more primitive camping options, offering a touch of convenience that many campers appreciate.
However, it's important to be aware of potential drawbacks noted by visitors. One review mentions that the back side of the campground, located below the bathrooms, is very near the main highway (CA-155). This proximity can lead to noise from passing vehicles, which might be bothersome at night for those sensitive to such sounds. Additionally, this area is described as being warmer due to a lack of breeze, contrasting with the more airy spots near the fire ring. When selecting a campsite within French Gulch, groups might want to consider this feedback and try to secure a location further away from the highway if noise is a concern.
Another point to consider is the terrain for tent pitching. While the reviewer noted "lots of space," they also mentioned that there weren't really many "flat" areas for tents. This could mean that groups with multiple tents might need to spend some time finding the most level spots available or come prepared to work with slightly uneven ground. Despite this, the abundance of space suggests that accommodating larger groups should not be an issue in terms of capacity.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the convenience of French Gulch Group Campsite's location is a significant advantage. Being only about a 10-minute drive from town makes it easy to access supplies, whether you need to replenish food, purchase forgotten items, or explore local amenities. This proximity to town strikes a good balance between the feeling of being in nature and the convenience of having essential services within easy reach.
Adding to the positive aspects, one reviewer mentioned "great sunrise views at the boat ramp." While the boat ramp might be a short distance from the main campsites, the opportunity to witness a beautiful sunrise over Lake Isabella can be a memorable experience for the group. This suggests that the location offers not only scenic views from the campsites themselves but also opportunities for enjoying the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
The overall sentiment from the reviews is positive, with one visitor stating, "Beautiful environment and awesome scenery." This reinforces the idea that French Gulch Group Campsite is situated in a visually appealing location that enhances the camping experience. The combination of lake views, the surrounding environment, and the provided amenities makes it a desirable choice for group camping near Lake Isabella.
In summary, French Gulch Group Campsite offers a compelling option for those searching for 'Camping Near Me,' particularly for group outings. Its key features include a nice pavilion, a paved fire ring, clean and large bathrooms with showers, and stunning views overlooking Lake Isabella. The convenience of being just 10 minutes from town for supplies adds to its practicality. While some areas of the campground might experience highway noise and a lack of breeze, and finding perfectly flat tent spots might require some effort, the overall positive feedback regarding the environment, scenery, and amenities suggests a rewarding camping experience. For groups looking for a well-equipped campsite with beautiful lake views and easy access to necessities, French Gulch Group Campsite is definitely worth considering. Contact them at (760) 376-1269 to inquire about availability and make your group camping plans a reality.

French Gulch Group Campsite Reviews
NIce pavillion and paved fire ring. Nice clean large bathrooms with showers. Nice view overlooking the lake. Great breeze up by the fire ring. The back side of the campground (below the bathrooms) is very near the main highway, and can be loud at night if car sounds bother you. Its also very warm due to lack of breeze. But the Campsite is also close town (10 min) so you can easily drive in a get supplies. Would have given it a 5 if there were more "flat" areas for tents....lots of space, just not really flat...But great sunrise views at the boat ramp.

Sep 17, 2023 · Jess “Jesse” GonzalezI reserved French Gulch for my Vintage BMW Motorcycle club. Showers are an important amenity for us because you tend to get hot and sweaty riding. Much to my chagrin, the showers are not operational and apparently haven’t been for quite a while. Additionally, the general upkeep of the restrooms is lacking. The women’s restroom is down one stall, the hand dryer in the men’s is not operational, leaking fixtures, no hot water, etc. I complained at the Kernville ranger station and they called the concessionaire. The person on the line sounded shocked that such a situation exists and said he’d send out someone to “look at it”. Awhile later a person from the concessionaire did arrive. When I told him of my complaints, he responded: “there are no showers, no hot water and they are going to tear down the restroom building and replace it with pit toilets”. This is an example of why the Forest Service should not be using low bid contractors to run their facilities. The buck just keeps getting passed and nothing gets maintained or improved. Additionally, the idea of tearing down the facility is ridiculous. I would say that a few thousand dollars spent to repair the facility vs many tens of thousands of dollars to replace it with and inferior building is not the way to go. The Federal government should fund the Forest Service sufficiently to have their employees run the campgrounds, as they used to.
