One enthusiastic camper described the location as "absolutely beautiful" and praised the "spectacular" management. They stayed for three nights and "absolutely loved it," highlighting the peacefulness despite some mentioning of bridge noise. This suggests that while the campground is conveniently located near a road for easy access, the overall ambiance leans towards tranquility, especially in certain areas of the grounds. The reviewer also commended the staff for being "couldn’t be more accommodating," indicating a high level of customer service.
Another reviewer lauded the efforts of Justin and Miranda, the management, noting that they have put "so much love into this place." This personal touch seems to contribute significantly to the positive experience at Gooney Creek Campgrounds. The facilities were also highlighted, with "clean bathrooms" and "hot showers" being specifically mentioned. For added convenience, the campground provides "kindling in every fire pit" (and every site has one), along with "electric and water hookups everywhere," catering to both tent and RV campers. The "well maintained landscaping" adds to the aesthetic appeal, and the thoughtful inclusion of a "wash station for your utensils and dishes" demonstrates attention to campers' needs.
The natural environment of Gooney Creek Campgrounds is a significant draw. One camper described the "fresh water running down the creek with the birds chirping" as their "happy spot," and their stay fulfilled this desire for connection with nature. While the campground is near an overpass bridge, which some might notice, reviewers consistently point out that there are "plenty of spots away from the overpass bridge if that’s your only concern." One camper who slept close to it in a tent reported that it "didn’t bother me at all," suggesting that the noise may not be as intrusive as some might fear.
The overall sentiment from the reviews is that Gooney Creek Campgrounds offers excellent value for its price. One reviewer explicitly stated that "if you want a to sleep by a beautiful stream with birds chirping and a little touch of Mother Nature, all at a very reasonable cost, then this should be your home." This positions it as an attractive option for those seeking an affordable yet enjoyable "camping near me" experience without the high costs associated with more "high end" places.
Another camper found the campground "very comfortable," noting the easy access due to its proximity to a road. While the road wasn't described as "terribly loud," its presence led to a 4-star rating instead of 5. However, this same reviewer discovered a trail leading away from the road that became "very serene and beautiful," highlighting the opportunity to find peaceful natural spots within the campground. They also cautioned that the creek was "fairly deep and fast flowing" in mid-April, advising that while it could be a great place for kids if supervised, the water conditions might require caution.

Gooney Creek Campgrounds Reviews
This place is absolutely beautiful and the management is spectacular. Stayed for three nights last week and absolutely loved it. I know people complain about the bridge noise , but there is plenty of peace to be had. The staff couldn’t be more accommodating .As of the grounds, Justin and Miranda have put so much love into this place. The bathrooms are clean, showers are hot, there’s kindling in every fire pit (every site has one), electric and water hookups everywhere, and well maintained landscaping. They even have a wash station for your utensils and dishes. The fresh water running down the creek with the birds chirping is my happy spot in life and this stay fulfilled that need for me. There are plenty of spots away from the overpass bridge if that’s your only concern. I slept close to it in a Tent and it didn’t bother me at all.Final thoughts,If you are looking for a high end place that cost a ton, then this place isn’t for you, but if you want a to sleep by a beautiful stream with birds chirping and a little touch of Mother Nature , all at a very reasonable cost, then this should be your home.Goonies for Life!!!
May 02, 2025 · James HankelVery comfortable campground. It's next to a road, which means easy access, and the road isn't *terribly* loud... so THAT'S good! I found a trail yesterday that led away from the road, and it became very serene and beautiful! I was so glad i went on that walk! I didn't click the kid friendly option on the review because the creek is fairly deep and fast flowing (at least, in mid-April). If you watch your kids, it would be a great place to bring them! And the road so close was the reason this for 4 stars, instead of 5.
Apr 19, 2025 · Dawn ManicsunrisePricing is higher than what is posted online. Seems to have been raised about $5-$10.The creek is wonderful! We stayed for 3 nights during the Hurricane Debbie storm. It was amazing, quite the adventure! We hiked up stream the first day and played around in the little bit of water the creek had to offer. It was in extreme drought condition. However after the storm it was significantly higher, with much louder & swifter currents. Too dangerous to get into. We were the only campers there on our 3 nights. Staff is helpful and nice. Working Bathhouse with toilets (flushing) and hot showers. A small library available. Most all sites have a table, fire pit, and wire grill top to use on top of fire to cook.I would recommend this campground.
Aug 10, 2024 · Kristen HyltonThis was a disappointment for us. We're very used to primitive camping. We have 600w of solar and 200amh of lithium, so we're very capable of being off grid. But when I booked it, I guess I didn't ask the right questions. They have sites with water and electricity, but that's not what we're wanting. We specifically got this camper so that we don't have to be connected. I made the mistake of assuming that since they have water and electric sites that I'd be able to get some water so we can do dishes, flush the toilet, and small little water uses like that. But nope. We booked a primitive site and they wouldn't allow us to get any water. At $25, you'd think I'd be able to get some water. The camp is very small, very tight, but even though we're a truck camper we're pretty big. The creek running behind most of the sites is very pretty and relaxing! That's the best part of this campground. Oh.... Nothing could be done about it... But the road noise from the big elevated bridge that runs right through camp is.... Well.... It's noise.
Jun 08, 2024 · Bruce ClarkPam was extremely helpful and accommodating for our group! We went tubing at FRO and straight into our group campsite under the bridge after. The location is perfect and everything I was looking for.We had no cell service (the goal was to keep everyone off their phones), plenty of room for our vehicles + 6 tents + 1 hammock + stand up grill and firewood available for purchase on site. The showers, bathroom and sink for dishes were EXTREMELY helpful. Those that complain about the quality of these should stick to KOAs, these are a luxury when thinking of independently owned campsites. We were prepared to hear vehicles on the bridge, so it did not bother us at all, our group site was very private, and we were able to enjoy being away from others. The main firepit sits under a clearing surrounded by trees, perfect for star gazing while sitting by the fire. The only downside we had was looking for a place to properly dispose of our garbage, we didn't want to cause overflow in the trash cans.Other than that, everything was great, and we loved it! Thank you, Pam.
