Gypsy River Resort Introduce
Seeking a tranquil riverside camping experience near you? Gypsy River Resort, located at 8690 River Rd, New Braunfels, TX 78132, USA, offers a unique setting along the picturesque Guadalupe River. Situated within the popular "camping near me" category for those in and around the New Braunfels area, this resort provides direct access to the river and a more secluded atmosphere, particularly during the off-season. You can contact them at (830) 964-2227 or their mobile number +1 830-964-2227 for reservations and inquiries.
The environment of Gypsy River Resort is defined by its prime location on the Guadalupe River. Campers can expect convenient access to the water, with some RV sites reportedly very close to the river's edge. The natural beauty of the Guadalupe River and its surroundings offers opportunities for relaxation and enjoying the outdoors. One reviewer noted the appeal of visiting during a time when the river is less congested, suggesting a more peaceful experience compared to peak seasons. The presence of picnic tables in the water is highlighted as a unique and enjoyable feature, allowing campers to immerse themselves directly in the river environment. However, one camper also pointed out the issue of litter, specifically beer cans, in the river and suggested that the resort staff could take a more active role in maintaining the river's cleanliness. This highlights the importance of responsible enjoyment of this natural resource while camping.
Based on the available customer reviews, the services and features at Gypsy River Resort appear to vary, particularly depending on the time of year. One reviewer mentioned that during the off-season, the office and camp store were unattended, making it impossible to rent items or purchase snacks on-site. However, this same reviewer had a positive interaction with a staff member cleaning the property who willingly sold them beer and ice, indicating a degree of helpfulness even when official services were limited. This suggests that while some standard campground amenities might be less accessible during certain times, individual staff members may still provide assistance.
Another key service discussed in the reviews is the shower facilities. One camper found the warm water to be a positive aspect but noted several drawbacks, including the need to pay for showers without the provision of a towel hook or a place to hang clothes. Additionally, the showerheads were described as being significantly clogged with mineral deposits, impacting the shower experience. The absence of grills at the campsites was also mentioned as a limitation by one reviewer.
On the other hand, a camper who visited during the winter season praised the beauty and tranquility of the location, particularly enjoying the lack of crowds. They noted the convenience of having a pop-up camper situated just ten feet from the water's edge, complete with water and electric hookups. The presence of nice seating along the river and the overall quiet atmosphere were also highlighted as significant positives. This suggests that for those seeking a peaceful, waterfront camping experience, especially during less busy times, Gypsy River Resort can be quite appealing.
Considering the varying experiences reported, potential services and features at Gypsy River Resort may include:
- Riverside RV and tent sites: Offering direct access to the Guadalupe River, with some sites very close to the water.
- Water and electric hookups: At least some sites are equipped with these utilities, as mentioned by a winter camper.
- Picnic tables: Including the unique feature of picnic tables located directly in the river.
- Restroom facilities: Available for campers.
- Shower facilities: Available for a fee, though with potential issues regarding cleanliness and amenities like towel hooks.
- Potential for a camp store: Though its operation may be limited during the off-season.
- River access for recreational activities: Allowing for swimming, tubing, and enjoying the waterfront.
- Seating along the river: Providing designated areas to relax and enjoy the view.
The absence of grills at the campsites and the potential limitations in on-site services during the off-season are important factors to consider. Additionally, the cleanliness of the river, while not directly a service of the resort, is a factor that can impact the overall camping experience.
Currently, no specific promotional information is provided in the customer reviews. To inquire about any seasonal discounts, off-season rates, or other special offers, it is recommended to contact Gypsy River Resort directly at (830) 964-2227 or +1 830-964-2227. Given the positive feedback regarding the peacefulness and beauty of the resort during less crowded times, it might be worth asking about potential benefits of camping during the shoulder or off-seasons. The "camping near me" platform may also sometimes list seasonal promotions or discounts if the resort actively participates in such offers.
In conclusion, Gypsy River Resort offers a unique camping experience centered around its location on the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels, making it a relevant option for those searching within the "camping near me" category. While it appears to offer appealing aspects such as waterfront access, particularly quiet and scenic during less busy times, potential campers should be aware of the reported limitations regarding shower facilities and the possible lack of on-site services during the off-season. The issue of river cleanliness, though external to the resort's direct services, is also a factor to consider for those planning to enjoy water-based activities. Contacting Gypsy River Resort directly for the most up-to-date information on services, features, and any promotional offers is highly recommended to ensure it meets your specific camping needs for a local getaway.

Gypsy River Resort Reviews
RV sites are convenient to the river and there were only 2 or 3 other campers here. We had a great time. It’s a nice time of year to be on the Guadalupe if the river congestion isn’t your favorite experience. Loved the picnic tables in the water. Didn’t love all the beer cans in the water. I picked out a dozen or more. The Gypsy Resort staff could be better stewards of the river by cleaning up what may (or may not) be their guests’ debris.Because it was off season, they didn’t have anyone in the office/camp store so renting anything or grabbing quick snacks wasn’t an option. I did ask the gentleman cleaning the property to sell me some beer and ice and he was happy to accommodate and very polite. The showers were not my favorite. I didn’t mind paying for the showers but I’d like a towel hook, or place to hang my clean/dry clothes. The shower heads were very clogged with mineral deposits. On the bright side, the water was warm. Lastly, no grills available. For the price per night, I just want a nice shower, so that’s mostly why I gave it 4 stars.I think I’d rebook this again next fall for another quick weekend getaway.
Oct 06, 2024 · Suzanne WatsonWe love winter camping mostly because of less people around. Today we are the only people here and this place is absolutely beautiful. Our popup is literally 10ft from the water's edge. Has water and electric hookup. Nice seating along the river. Super quiet. I'm diggin this place.
Dec 21, 2024 · Johnnie DangerA good friend of mine referred this little gem in the river. I had the pleasure of staying with Thelma last weekend. Thelma is an old soul after my own heart. She’s helped a lot of people on their journey and I’m glad to be one of them. After a day of playing in the sun, floating and catching cans outta the river, it was true comfort to come back home to Thelma. Check in was easy and fast. I booked her the same day and arrived a few hours later. it was the most chill weekend ever. I think I found my new favorite getaway.I’ll be back Thelma 🚐 🍁 🌙 💕
Oct 24, 2024 · Brandis TylerWe spent my husband's birthday weekend here and we had a blast! Everybody who worked there was so incredibly nice. It was a fun and laid back atmosphere. The river is absolutely gorgeous and it's a great spot to hang out and cool off. The view from the bungalows is so pretty, and there are so many trees that we had shade pretty much all day. We will be back!
May 21, 2024 · Emily PhillipsAbsolutely the worst experience I've ever had camping on the river. They make you pay extra $25 PER TRIP, if you want to actually float the river so be prepared to pay more than you should for a tiny camping spot and to float. We couldn't even use 1 out of 8 camping spots I reserved because it barely even fit an SUV. So we had to give up a non refundable spot because they refused to move the person that was invading the spot we couldn't use. Then we got yelled at by the owner. How absolutely unprofessional. You could have handled everything at a respectful manner and not immediately try to get use removed for a simple question. I'll never come back, and I would suggest a different place to camp because this place is not it. The only person who was helpful was Nicole. They also barely follow their own rules and still allow dogs even tho it states no dogs during a certain time, and saw 4 dogs on the property that were not a service animal. Also the showers at .25 cents for 3 minutes and they let the women's restrooms go without toilet paper all morning on Sunday. They have no fire pits, no grills, and everything is WAY overpriced. I should have gone down the road for half the price but choose Gypsy due to personal recommendations and prior stays. But NEVER AGAIN.I'll be going back to FIMFO, a 100% more family friendly and WAY more to do!
