Hampton Beach State Park Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a "camping near me" experience with the allure of the Atlantic coast, Hampton Beach State Park Campground, located at NH-1A, Hampton, NH 03842, USA, offers a unique opportunity to camp right by the ocean. With contact numbers (603) 926-8990 and +1 603-926-8990, this state park campground is a popular choice due to its prime location and access to the renowned Hampton Beach and nearby attractions. However, recent customer reviews provide a balanced perspective, highlighting both the undeniable advantages and some potential drawbacks that local users should consider when planning their coastal camping trip.
When searching for "camping near me," the appeal of Hampton Beach State Park Campground is its direct proximity to a beautiful beach and the vibrant atmosphere of Hampton Beach. The availability of full hookups is also a significant draw for RV campers. However, it's crucial for potential visitors to be aware of the specific rules and conditions, as outlined in recent reviews, to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Let's delve into an objective overview of the environment, services, and features of Hampton Beach State Park Campground based on the provided customer feedback:
The Environment: Ocean Views and Beach Access with Potential Crowding
The most significant environmental feature of Hampton Beach State Park Campground is undoubtedly its beautiful ocean views and close access to a very nice beach area. The sand is mentioned as a positive aspect, and the beach provides ample space for activities such as walking and running, especially enjoyable for families with toddlers. The proximity to the ocean allows campers to easily enjoy the sights, sounds, and feel of the coast. Furthermore, its location offers walking or biking distance to many of Hampton Beach's attractions, making it a convenient base for exploring the local area.
However, the popularity of this location can also lead to crowding, both in the campground and on the beach, especially during peak seasons. While the reviews don't explicitly detail the size of the campsites or the overall layout, the mention of waiting for showers suggests a potentially high occupancy rate. Additionally, one reviewer noted that despite the rules stating "no dogs" on the campground and beach, people were observed ignoring this, which could be a concern for visitors with allergies or those who prefer pet-free environments.
Services and Amenities: Full Hookups with Reported Limitations
One of the key services mentioned is that the campground has full hookups, which is a significant advantage for RV campers, providing water, electricity, and sewer connections at their sites. This amenity enhances the comfort and convenience of staying in an RV. However, the reviews also point out some limitations and areas needing improvement:
- Limited Shower Facilities: A significant issue raised by one reviewer was the inadequacy of the shower facilities. They reported having to wait for five other people before their group of six could take turns to wash off the sand. This suggests that the number of showers may be insufficient to accommodate the number of campers, leading to potentially long wait times, especially after a day at the beach.
- Parking Restrictions: Strict parking rules are in place, with a time limit until 8 pm. Vehicles parked beyond this time risk being towed. This restriction could be particularly inconvenient for campers wanting to enjoy the evening in Hampton Beach or deal with unforeseen circumstances, as highlighted by the reviewer whose toddler had a skin rash and needed additional cleanup. The authoritative enforcement of these rules, even in seemingly extenuating circumstances, was a point of frustration for at least one visitor.
- Cleanliness and Maintenance: One reviewer explicitly stated that "The campground could be cleaner and better maintained." This suggests that while the location is a major draw, the upkeep of the facilities might not meet the expectations of all visitors. Specific areas needing improvement were not detailed in the provided reviews, but this is a point for potential campers to consider.
While the availability of full hookups is a positive aspect, the reported limitations with shower facilities, strict parking rules, and potential cleanliness issues are important factors for local users to be aware of.
Features and Highlights: Beach Proximity and Nearby Attractions
The primary features and highlights of Hampton Beach State Park Campground revolve around its location:
- Direct Beach Access: The immediate access to Hampton Beach is a major draw, allowing campers to easily enjoy the sand, the ocean, and various beach activities.
- Ocean Views: Many campsites likely offer beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean, enhancing the camping experience with scenic vistas.
- Proximity to Attractions: Being within walking or biking distance to the many attractions of Hampton Beach is a significant advantage. This could include restaurants, shops, arcades, entertainment venues, and other recreational activities, offering plenty to do beyond the campground itself.
- Full Hookups: For RV travelers, the availability of full hookups provides a comfortable and convenient way to enjoy the coastal location.
The combination of a beachfront location with easy access to the amenities and entertainment of Hampton Beach makes this campground a desirable option for those wanting a lively coastal experience.
Promotional Information: Popular Location - Book Accordingly
The reviews do not contain specific promotional offers or discounts. However, the consistent mention of its popularity ("The campground ... is popular because of the location") suggests that local users interested in staying at Hampton Beach State Park Campground should book well in advance, especially during peak seasons and weekends, to secure a site. The high demand is likely driven by its prime beachfront location and proximity to attractions.
To inquire about availability, seasonal rates, and specific site information, local users can contact the campground directly at:
- Phone: (603) 926-8990
- Mobile Phone: +1 603-926-8990
When booking, it might be beneficial to inquire about the location of the showers relative to potential campsites and any specific regulations regarding parking and pets to ensure a clear understanding of the campground's rules and facilities.
Real Customer Experiences: A Mix of Beach Enjoyment and Frustrations
The provided customer reviews offer a mixed perspective on Hampton Beach State Park Campground. One reviewer highlighted the enjoyment of the beach for their toddlers and the good weather but expressed significant frustration with the limited shower facilities and the strict parking enforcement, especially in a situation involving a child's discomfort. This suggests that while the location is ideal for beachgoers, the infrastructure and rules can be challenging.
The second reviewer also praised the beautiful ocean view and the convenience of being within walking or biking distance to attractions. They appreciated the full hookups for RVs but pointed out the need for better cleanliness and maintenance. The issue of non-compliance with the "no dogs" rule was also raised as a significant con.
These reviews collectively paint a picture of a campground with an exceptional location that offers direct beach access and proximity to Hampton Beach's attractions. The availability of full hookups is a plus for RVers. However, potential drawbacks include potentially overcrowded shower facilities, strict parking regulations, concerns about cleanliness and maintenance, and the reported disregard for the no-dog policy by some visitors.
In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" and prioritizing a beachfront location with easy access to Hampton Beach's amenities, Hampton Beach State Park Campground is a viable option. The ocean views and the convenience of walking or biking to attractions are significant draws. However, it is essential to be aware of the potential limitations regarding shower availability, parking restrictions, and the reported issues with cleanliness and adherence to pet rules. By considering these factors, local campers can make an informed decision about whether this campground meets their needs for a coastal getaway.

Hampton Beach State Park Campground Reviews
I loved the sand, the water was cold but it's okay, the weather that day was good. Our toddlers got to walk, run, and enjoy the beach. However, there were just some frustrating situations like parking restrictions and shower. There was not enough showers to clean up and wash the free sand away 😂... We ended up waiting for 5 people before 6 of us got our turn. The parking time allowed was only till 8pm so, you gotta roll or your vehicle will be towed. On our way out, it happened that one of our toddlers got a skin rash and needed to clean up more, so there was this old man who manages the parking lot, came to us to let us know the rules with a very authoritative inflection and said, I don't care about your troubles, parking is only till 8pm. It's either you roll or get towed. Hence, our family just dealt with our toddler's need as fast as we could and drove away. We prayed for the old man to overcome whatever difficulties he's experiencing in life 🙏
Jul 11, 2023 · Nemia Bigata SkrockiBeautiful view of the ocean with close access to a very nice beach area. Walking or biking distance to many attractions. The campground has full hookups and is popular because of the location. The campground could be cleaner and better maintained. Biggest con: the campground and beach say no dogs, people ignore that, have them in the campground and on the beach and don’t clean up after them.
May 04, 2023 · J ListI have been visiting here for 40 years. A great spot of sand beach close to home. The beach extends for miles and provides lots of walking. Sunbathing, swimming if you are brave to venture into the ocean and the cold water.I enjoy the fresh salt air, sand dunes and sun. There is also a camping area for RVs but no shade if you are into that kind d of camping.
