Green Gate Camping Area & Hall

185 Court St, Exeter, NH 03833, USA

4.0
This Campground is mostly seasonal campers, most were very friendly. The owners were also very friendly, there is a long list of policies and rules, nothing to unreasonable. It's close to Portsmouth and Hampton Beach. The only issue was all sites are under mostly pine trees which are very beautiful, until we realized the Pine trees were dripping pine pitch all over the camper and our vehicle. It also got all over our shoes. We went to the store and got some Goo Gone which did clean most of it up, we then covered what we could with table cloths and extra coverings we had in the camper. It was a bit disappointing. The site looks like it had not been raked or cleaned in some time. I'm giving 3 stars because it wasn't the best experience but everyone was nice , it was a quiet place, and close to attractions. - Rita

Green Gate Camping Area & Hall Introduce

For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Exeter, New Hampshire area, Green Gate Camping Area & Hall, located at 185 Court St, Exeter, NH 03833 (phone: (603) 772-2100, mobile: +1 603-772-2100), presents a camping option with a mix of positive and negative feedback from recent visitors. If you're looking for a campground with a friendly atmosphere and convenient access to nearby attractions like Portsmouth and Hampton Beach, Green Gate Camping Area & Hall might be of interest. However, it's important to be aware of certain aspects concerning the facilities and environment based on the available reviews.

Environment: Green Gate Camping Area & Hall is characterized by its abundance of mature pine trees, which are described as "very beautiful" and provide ample shade over most campsites. While the trees contribute to the aesthetic appeal and offer a shaded environment, a significant drawback noted by a camper is that these pine trees drip "pine pitch" all over campers and vehicles, as well as shoes. This sticky residue required the use of a cleaning product to remove and prompted the campers to cover their belongings. Another environmental aspect mentioned is that at least one campsite appeared to be "not raked or cleaned in some time," suggesting a potential lack of immediate site maintenance. Despite these issues, the campground is described as a "quiet place," which can be a desirable attribute for those seeking a peaceful camping experience.

Services: Based on the limited information in the reviews, the services at Green Gate Camping Area & Hall appear to be somewhat basic and potentially dated:

  • Friendly Owners: The owners are described as "very friendly," contributing to a positive interaction upon arrival and during the stay.
  • Mostly Friendly Seasonal Campers: The campground seems to host a significant number of seasonal campers, most of whom were reported to be "very friendly," potentially fostering a sense of community.
  • Rules and Policies: There is a "long list of policies and rules," which one reviewer noted were "nothing too unreasonable." However, another reviewer expressed concern about the owners not taking enough responsibility for the condition of the restroom facilities despite the extensive rules for campers.
  • Outdated Bathrooms: A significant concern raised is that the bathrooms are "old & very outdated" and appear to have not been significantly upgraded since the campground reportedly opened in 1964.
  • Pay-Per-Use Showers: Campers are required to pay for showers. One reviewer found the coin machine for the showers difficult to use.
  • Limited Sink Facilities: One sink faucet was reported to be loose and difficult to use, requiring one hand to hold it down to get water, making it challenging to wash both hands simultaneously.
  • Toilet Stall Issues: The toilet facilities reportedly had issues with the stall doors, including one stall with no lock and two others where the hooks were either too short or too long to properly latch the door, raising concerns about privacy and functionality.
  • No On-Site Store: A notable lack of service is the absence of any kind of snack or general store on the premises. Campers needing supplies are advised to plan on leaving the campground to purchase them.

Features: Green Gate Camping Area & Hall offers a few features that might appeal to certain campers, along with some drawbacks:

  • Proximity to Attractions: A key advantage is its location, which is "close to Portsmouth and Hampton Beach." This makes it a potentially convenient base for exploring these popular New Hampshire coastal destinations.
  • Quiet Atmosphere: The campground is described as a "quiet place," which can be appealing to those seeking a more relaxed and less noisy camping environment.
  • Spacious Sites (Implied): While not explicitly stated, the comment about the pine trees being "all sites" suggests that there are multiple campsites available. One reviewer also mentioned the "size of our site" as a positive aspect, implying that at least some sites are generously sized.
  • Seasonal Camping Focus: The prevalence of seasonal campers might foster a stable and familiar community for those who camp for extended periods.

Promotional Information: The provided reviews do not contain any information about specific promotional offers or discounts at Green Gate Camping Area & Hall. For local users considering "camping near me" at this location, it would be advisable to contact them directly at (603) 772-2100 or +1 603-772-2100 to inquire about:

  • Current Rates: Obtain information on daily, weekly, and seasonal rates for campsites.
  • Seasonal Camping Details: If interested in seasonal camping, inquire about the terms, duration, and any specific requirements or benefits.
  • Potential Discounts: Ask if there are any discounts for local residents, seniors, or other groups.
  • Group Rates: If planning a trip with a larger group, inquire about special rates or arrangements.
  • Amenities Included: Clarify what amenities are included in the site fees and what, if any, have additional costs (e.g., showers).
  • Facility Updates: Inquire if there are any plans for upgrades or improvements to the bathroom facilities.
  • Site Conditions: Ask about the typical condition of the campsites and if there are specific areas less affected by pine pitch.

In conclusion, Green Gate Camping Area & Hall in Exeter, NH, offers a friendly atmosphere and a convenient location for exploring nearby attractions like Portsmouth and Hampton Beach. The quiet environment and potentially spacious sites might also be appealing to some campers. However, prospective visitors should be aware of the reported issues with pine pitch from the abundant trees, the outdated and problematic bathroom facilities (including pay-per-use showers and malfunctioning fixtures), and the lack of an on-site store. The strong focus on seasonal campers might also influence the overall dynamic for short-term visitors. Local users considering "camping near me" at Green Gate Camping Area & Hall should weigh the positive aspects of location and friendly service against the concerns raised about the facilities and environmental factors. Direct communication with the campground management is recommended to obtain the most current information and to address any specific questions or concerns before making a reservation.
