Tidewater Campground Introduce
For local users exploring 'camping near me' in the Hampton, New Hampshire area, Tidewater Campground, located at 160 Lafayette Rd, presents a camping option with a focus on orderliness and safety, as indicated by some long-term seasonal campers. However, recent feedback also highlights a potentially strict environment that may not be suitable for all types of campers. To provide an objective introduction, we will consider both the positive aspects mentioned by some and the concerns raised by others.
The Environment: Described as Tidy with an Emphasis on Rules
One of the key environmental characteristics of Tidewater Campground, according to a long-term seasonal camper, is that it is "very tidy." This suggests that the campground management places a strong emphasis on cleanliness and orderliness throughout the grounds. A well-maintained and tidy environment can contribute to a more pleasant and comfortable camping experience, ensuring that common areas and campsites are kept in good condition.
The same positive review also mentions that "the rules are to keep everyone safe." This implies that Tidewater Campground has established regulations aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers. While specific rules are not detailed, the sentiment suggests a focus on maintaining a secure environment for all visitors. This could include guidelines related to campfires, vehicle movement, and general conduct within the campground.
However, a contrasting perspective from a more recent short-term visitor paints a different picture of the campground environment, particularly concerning the enforcement of these rules. This review describes feeling "unwelcome" and recounts instances of being told to quiet down shortly after the stated quiet hours began (10:01 pm) despite being away from other sites and engaging in quiet activities like playing cards and laughing. This suggests a potentially low tolerance for noise, even at levels that might be considered reasonable by some campers, especially families with children.
Furthermore, the same review mentions being told to slow down after going what was perceived as an extremely low speed (5 mph), with the reviewer stating they "could not even touch gas peddle!!" This indicates a potentially very strict enforcement of speed limits within the campground, which some visitors might find overly restrictive.
Services and Accommodation: Long-Term Satisfaction Versus Short-Term Discomfort
Feedback regarding the services and accommodation at Tidewater Campground is somewhat divided based on the provided reviews. The long-term seasonal camper expresses great satisfaction, specifically mentioning "Theresa ..and Lee. And Wally" as "exceptional." This suggests that the staff at Tidewater Campground are capable of providing excellent service and fostering positive relationships with long-term residents. The fact that this camper stayed for 12 years and would return if circumstances allowed speaks highly of their positive experiences with the campground and its staff.
However, the short-term visitor's experience paints a contrasting picture. This reviewer felt unwelcome, which could indicate issues with the overall hospitality or the way rules are communicated and enforced with temporary guests. While the campground may offer standard amenities such as campsites (potentially for tents and RVs), restrooms, and other basic facilities, the negative experience reported by this visitor overshadowed these aspects.
The mention of having "5 sites and 6 kids" in the negative review suggests that Tidewater Campground does accommodate families and group bookings. However, the subsequent interactions regarding noise and speed indicate that families, particularly those with children, might need to be especially mindful of the campground's rules and the strictness with which they are enforced.
It is important to note that the provided information does not detail specific amenities such as laundry facilities, recreational areas, or Wi-Fi availability. To obtain a comprehensive understanding of the services offered, contacting Tidewater Campground directly would be necessary.
Features and Highlights: A Focus on Tidiness and Strict Regulations
Based on the limited information, the key features and potential highlights of Tidewater Campground appear to be:
- Tidy Environment: The campground is described as very clean and well-maintained.
- Emphasis on Safety Rules: Regulations are in place to ensure the safety of all campers.
- Positive Experience for Some Seasonal Campers: Long-term residents have expressed high satisfaction with the staff and the overall environment.
However, potential drawbacks to consider include:
- Potentially Unwelcoming Atmosphere for Short-Term Visitors: At least one recent visitor reported feeling unwelcome due to strict enforcement of rules.
- Strict Noise Policy: Even quiet activities after the stated quiet hours may be met with reprimands.
- Very Low Speed Limit Enforcement: The strict enforcement of a low speed limit within the campground might be inconvenient for some.
The contrasting experiences suggest that Tidewater Campground might cater more towards a specific type of camper – perhaps those seeking a very quiet and highly regulated environment – and might not be the best fit for families or those who prefer a more relaxed camping atmosphere.
Promotional Information: Word-of-Mouth and a Note of Caution
The provided information does not include any explicit promotional offers or discounts. The most compelling promotion comes from the positive testimonial of the long-term seasonal camper, highlighting the tidiness of the campground and the exceptional staff. This positive word-of-mouth could attract other campers seeking a well-maintained and safe environment.
However, the negative review serves as a cautionary note. The description of the campground as "where fun goes to die!!!!!!" is a strong statement that potential visitors, especially those looking for a lively or relaxed family camping experience, should take into consideration. While rules are in place for safety and order, the perceived strictness in their enforcement might deter some campers.
Local users considering Tidewater Campground for their 'camping near me' option should carefully weigh these contrasting perspectives. If a very quiet, orderly, and strictly regulated environment is preferred, and if they anticipate adhering closely to all campground rules, Tidewater Campground might be a suitable choice, particularly given the positive experiences of long-term residents. However, those seeking a more relaxed or family-oriented atmosphere with greater tolerance for quiet social interactions, even slightly past quiet hours, might find the environment less appealing.

No one near our sites, kids were playing cards and laughing. We were told to slow down after going 5mph!! We could not even touch gas peddle!! Never camping here again!! The campground where fun goes to die!!!!!!

Jan 11, 2025 · Maureen KaneWe were loyal customers for three seasons. However when we had a family emergency,The campground was not kind or empathic in any way. Instead they decided to charge for time we were not there despite our notifications to the campground and still staying more than the required 3 nights. Many of said how bad the management is, now I have to agree with all the one star reviews. They have lost our business.
Aug 29, 2024 · Moose KernoffSpent one night while traveling. Due to the way the roads intersect where the turn in is located we had trouble several times trying to get into the campground. The staff was nice. Had to purchase a $10 (refundable) key card to access the campground. Most spots were tightly packed. Lots of trees in the area we were assigned. Lots of signage about speed limit being "walking". Quite area. Saw several wild turkey in the park.
