Harper Lake Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Kimmell, Indiana area? Harper Lake Campground, located at 1006 S 900 W, Kimmell, IN 46760, USA, offers a welcoming and relaxed camping experience centered around Harper Lake. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground is appreciated for its friendly atmosphere, lake activities, and shady campsites, making it a potential choice for families and individuals seeking a more rustic and community-oriented outdoor getaway.
One of the standout features of Harper Lake Campground, according to reviewers, is the exceptional hospitality of the owners, Jim and Steph. One visitor described them as "very accommodating and friendly," which can significantly enhance the overall camping experience. Their approachability likely contributes to the welcoming atmosphere that guests have noted.
The sense of community at Harper Lake Campground also seems to be a significant positive. The reviews mention that the "seasonal residents and campers were also very friendly and easy going." One kind gesture highlighted was a seasonal resident helping a newcomer start a fire on their first night, illustrating the neighborly spirit of the campground. This friendly environment can be particularly appealing to those who enjoy interacting with fellow campers.
For those who enjoy lake activities, Harper Lake offers opportunities for canoeing, which was specifically mentioned as enjoyable by one guest. A notable feature of the lake that contributes to a relaxing experience is the "10mile an hour speed limit." This regulation ensures that the lake remains peaceful and safe for activities like canoeing, swimming (though not explicitly mentioned), and potentially fishing, without the disruption and safety concerns associated with high-speed boats. The emphasis on a family-friendly environment further supports the value of a calm lake atmosphere.
The natural environment of the campground also receives positive feedback, with one reviewer who stayed in tents mentioning they had a "nice shady lot." Shady campsites are often preferred, especially during warmer months, as they provide relief from the sun and contribute to a more comfortable camping experience.
Harper Lake Campground is also described as "family friendly," and it's noted that "our dog was also welcome." Pet-friendly campgrounds are a significant draw for many campers who like to travel with their furry companions, making this a notable feature for pet owners.
In terms of facilities, one reviewer provided a balanced perspective on the bathrooms. While acknowledging that they were "clean," they suggested that an update might be beneficial, noting that while it was acceptable for them ("It is camping after all :)"), their teenage daughter was less impressed. This indicates that while the basic hygiene needs are met, the facilities might be somewhat dated. However, the cleanliness is a definite plus.
Another long-term visitor who had been there for three years offered a pragmatic view, stating, "price wise I get what I pay for, its not a resort, its mainly for fishing and visiting other campers." This reinforces the idea that Harper Lake Campground offers a more rustic and community-focused experience rather than luxury amenities. They also echoed the friendly nature of most people, acknowledging that "just a few grouches" are to be expected anywhere. This reviewer encouraged others to "Come give a try but remember it's a rustic campground so don't expect resort junk." This honest assessment sets expectations for potential visitors who might be looking for a more traditional camping experience centered around nature and community rather than high-end facilities.
Based on these reviews, Harper Lake Campground appears to be a place where the natural beauty, the friendliness of the owners and other campers, and the lake activities (particularly canoeing and likely fishing, given the long-term resident's comment) are the primary draws. The environment is described as shady and welcoming to families and pets. The facilities, while clean, might be basic and could benefit from updates according to one guest.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Harper Lake Campground in Kimmell, IN, offers a family-friendly and community-oriented experience with a focus on enjoying the lake and the natural surroundings. If you appreciate a more rustic setting, value friendly interactions with fellow campers and owners, and enjoy activities like canoeing on a peaceful lake, this campground could be a good fit. Harper Lake Campground Reviews
My Family and I really enjoyed our stay at the Camp ground. We stayed in tents and had a nice shady lot. The Owners, Jim and Steph, were very accommodating and friendly. The other “seasonal” residents and campers were also very friendly and easy going. One of them even came over and helped my husband get the fire started the first night. We enjoyed the canoeing and really loved that there is a 10mile an hour speed limit on the lake. We did not feel like we were going to get run over by speed boats, so it made it very relaxing. This is a family friendly camp ground and our dog was also welcome. If I had to pick one negative thing, Albeit the bathrooms were clean, I would suggest an update. I was fine with it but not my teenage daughter. It is camping after all :) Overall, I recommend it and plan to visit there again.

May 22, 2013 · Sherry RenderOverall we absolutely love it here. It is quiet and peaceful and the scenery is wonderful. It is a little on the rustic side and the bathroom could use some improvements but the essentials are here. This is beautiful and homey place to spend a weekend and we highly recommend it.
