Hayspur Campground

Fish Hatchery Pl, Gannett, ID 83313, USA

The campground is currently closed, which the only way to know was the sign at the entrance. If you have small children the water is perfect for them. The fish are very small and the bigger trout are considered trophy trout, but aren't big enough to waste time on, and no dogs allowed near the water. This i kind of understand, but is a turn off for me. - Brandy Stevens

Hayspur Campground Introduce

For those in Idaho and surrounding areas searching for "camping near me" with a focus on a potentially serene and budget-friendly experience, Hayspur Campground near Gannett offers a unique, donation-based camping opportunity. Located near Fish Hatchery Place, this campground has garnered some feedback from visitors regarding its environment, services, and specific regulations. It's important for potential campers to be aware of these aspects, including a recent report of its temporary closure, to make informed decisions about their outdoor plans.

The environment of Hayspur Campground, situated near Gannett, Idaho, appears to be characterized by a peaceful and natural setting. The mention of "shade trees" in a review suggests that some campsites benefit from natural cover, providing relief from the sun, particularly during warmer months. The campground's proximity to a fish hatchery and water sources implies a location that could be attractive to anglers and those who enjoy being near water. One reviewer noted that the water is "perfect for small children," suggesting a shallow and safe area for younger visitors to enjoy. However, it's also mentioned that dogs are not allowed near the water, a regulation that potential campers with pets should take into account. The overall atmosphere seems to be one of quietness and cleanliness, as highlighted by a visitor who described it as "Clean quiet." The "pack it in, pack it out" sign indicates a focus on Leave No Trace principles, emphasizing the need for campers to maintain the cleanliness of the area and take all their waste with them upon departure.

In terms of services, Hayspur Campground offers a somewhat basic yet functional setup, consistent with a donation-based model. A "pit toilet" is mentioned, indicating the type of restroom facility available, which is a more rustic option compared to flush toilets. The presence of "potable water" is a significant convenience, ensuring that campers have access to drinking water. "Fire rings" at the campsites suggest that campfires are permitted, likely within designated areas, allowing for cooking and enjoying a traditional camping experience. The 10-day limit on stays indicates that this campground is geared towards shorter visits rather than long-term camping. The donation-based system implies that there are no fixed fees, and campers contribute voluntarily based on their experience and ability, which can make it a very affordable option for those comfortable with the available amenities.

The features of Hayspur Campground are somewhat nuanced based on the provided reviews. The proximity to water, potentially linked to the fish hatchery, is a key feature that appeals to some, particularly families with small children who can safely play in the shallow areas. Fly fishing is mentioned as an activity enjoyed by one visitor's husband, suggesting that the water source may be suitable for fishing, although another reviewer noted that the fish are generally small, with larger trout being considered "trophy trout" but not worth the effort for some anglers. The absence of dogs near the water is a notable regulation that might be a drawback for pet owners who enjoy having their dogs with them during water-related activities. The shade trees contribute to the comfort of the campsites, especially during hot weather, and the quiet atmosphere enhances the appeal for those seeking a peaceful retreat.

A critical piece of information from a recent review is that "The campground is currently closed, which the only way to know was the sign at the entrance." This is essential for anyone planning to visit Hayspur Campground. Potential campers should be aware that they might need to check local sources or even physically visit the entrance to ascertain its current operating status before making plans. This lack of readily available information online about closures can be a significant inconvenience.

Given its donation-based nature, specific promotional information in the traditional sense is unlikely to be available for Hayspur Campground. The primary draw is the affordability and the natural setting. The "pack it in, pack it out" ethos underscores a commitment to environmental stewardship and relies on the cooperation of campers to maintain the area's cleanliness. The 10-day limit could be seen as a way to ensure that the campground is available to a wider range of visitors throughout the season.

For those searching under the "camping near me" category who are looking for a no-frills, potentially budget-friendly option near Gannett, Idaho, Hayspur Campground presents itself as a possibility. The presence of potable water and fire rings are basic necessities that enhance the camping experience. However, the current closure status, the pit toilet facilities, the restriction on dogs near the water, and the reported small size of the fish might be deterrents for some. The quiet and clean environment, along with the shade trees, could be appealing to others. The donation-based system offers an element of flexibility in terms of cost.

Potential visitors should be prepared for a rustic camping experience at Hayspur Campground. The "pack it in, pack it out" rule requires campers to be responsible for all their waste. The pit toilet indicates a lack of modern plumbing. The limited information about the campground online suggests that it might be a more informal or locally managed site. Therefore, it's crucial to gather the most up-to-date information about its operational status and any specific rules or recommendations before traveling there.

In conclusion, Hayspur Campground near Gannett, Idaho, offers a donation-based camping experience in a potentially clean and quiet environment with shade trees and access to water. It provides basic amenities such as potable water and fire rings, with restroom facilities being pit toilets. Anglers might find the fishing less than ideal due to the small size of the fish, and pet owners should note the restriction on dogs near the water. The current closure, as indicated by a recent visitor, is a significant factor that potential campers must verify before planning a trip. Despite these considerations, for those seeking a simple and affordable "camping near me" option and who are comfortable with rustic amenities and the donation system, Hayspur Campground could be a viable choice, provided it is open and the specific conditions meet their needs.
