Haystack Reservoir Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Prineville, Oregon area? Haystack Reservoir Campground, located in Prineville, OR 97754, USA, with contact numbers (208) 270-0094 and +1 208-270-0094, is a potential destination for your consideration. Based on the available customer reviews, we can piece together an objective introduction to this campground, highlighting its environment, services, and features for local users.
One reviewer described their experience as a "quick stop overnight on the way elsewhere," indicating that the campground is conveniently located for travelers passing through the region. A significant positive aspect noted was that the campground is "very clean!" Cleanliness is a crucial factor for many campers, contributing to a comfortable and enjoyable experience. This positive feedback suggests that the management or caretakers of Haystack Reservoir Campground prioritize hygiene and maintenance.
The reviewer also mentioned the availability of "vault toilets." Vault toilets are non-flushable toilets that are common in more rustic or less developed campgrounds. While they are a basic amenity, their presence indicates that the campground provides restroom facilities for its visitors. The fact that they were specifically mentioned without any negative connotation suggests they were likely well-maintained and acceptable to the reviewer.
The beauty of Haystack Reservoir itself was also highlighted, with the reviewer noting that it is "pretty." Reservoirs often offer scenic views and opportunities for water-based activities, although this reviewer's interaction was limited to admiring it from the outside. A potential drawback mentioned was being "bit by flies while admiring it outside." This suggests that, depending on the time of year or specific conditions, insects might be present around the reservoir, which is something potential visitors should be aware of and prepared for with insect repellent.
The reviewer also observed that the reservoir was "not even half full, possibly due to air quality (in the yellow range)." This is an interesting observation, suggesting that environmental factors in the area might be influencing the water level and potentially the overall experience. Air quality in the "yellow range" typically indicates a moderate level of pollutants that could be a concern for some individuals, particularly those with respiratory sensitivities. The connection between air quality and the reservoir's water level is not explicitly stated but implies a potential broader environmental context that local users might be aware of.
Another reviewer described the area as "beautiful with great camping." This reinforces the positive aspect of the location's natural appeal and the overall camping experience offered. However, this reviewer also pointed out a significant "down fall," which was "the garbage in the lake." This is a concerning issue as it detracts from the natural beauty of the reservoir and can be harmful to wildlife and water quality. The reviewer mentioned that they "cleaned what we could but the wind may be the culprit" in bringing debris into the lake. This suggests that while the campground itself might be clean (as mentioned by the first reviewer), there might be an issue with litter entering the reservoir, possibly from surrounding areas or due to windblown debris. Despite this issue, the reviewer concluded with "Great place loved it," indicating that the positive aspects of the location and camping experience outweighed this drawback for them.
Based on these reviews, Haystack Reservoir Campground appears to be situated in a beautiful area with the reservoir being a key natural attraction. The campground itself is noted for its cleanliness and provides basic amenities like vault toilets. However, potential visitors should be aware of the possible presence of flies near the reservoir and the reported issue of garbage in the lake. The water level of the reservoir might also vary depending on environmental conditions.
Since no specific details about services and features beyond cleanliness and vault toilets were provided in the reviews, we can only speculate on what might be available. Typically, campgrounds offer designated campsites, which could range from primitive tent sites to RV-friendly spots. Other common features might include picnic tables, fire rings or communal fire pits, and potentially potable water sources. Given the presence of a reservoir, there might be a boat launch or designated swimming areas, although this is not confirmed in the reviews.
The reviews do not contain any promotional information about Haystack Reservoir Campground. Local users searching for "camping near me" would need to seek out additional information regarding reservation policies, fees, specific amenities offered (e.g., water hookups, dump stations, recreational areas), and any special rules or regulations of the campground. Contacting the campground directly using the provided phone numbers might be the best way to obtain this information.
For local users in the Prineville, Oregon, area, Haystack Reservoir Campground offers the appeal of camping in a beautiful setting with a reservoir as a central feature. The cleanliness of the campground is a significant positive, as is the availability of restroom facilities. However, potential drawbacks to consider include the presence of flies near the water and the reported issue of garbage in the lake. It would be beneficial for prospective campers to inquire about the current conditions of the reservoir, any efforts being made to address the litter issue, and the specific amenities available at the campsites.
In conclusion, Haystack Reservoir Campground in Prineville, Oregon, appears to be a clean and scenic location for "camping near me." The reservoir is a key attraction, although visitors should be prepared for potential encounters with flies. While the campground is praised for its cleanliness and the availability of vault toilets, there is a reported issue of garbage in the lake that potential visitors should be aware of. For more detailed information about services, features, and any promotional offers, local users are encouraged to contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers.

Jul 10, 2019 · bj bandStayed at the South Shore group site this weekend with 25 Boy Scouts and 10 adults. Was a perfect place for our needs. Felt like the camp host went out of his way to accommodate us and look after us. Had a wonderful time and grateful for the extra effort that Camp Host Bob put in to ensure we had a fun and comfortable stay. Thank you Bob!
