Hemlock Hideaway Campground Introduce
Are you a local resident of Pennsylvania or the surrounding areas searching for a "camping near me" experience that offers a peaceful escape with a range of accommodation options and some appealing features? Consider Hemlock Hideaway Campground, located at 17621 Seclusion Ln, James Creek, PA 16657, USA. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground presents a mixed picture, offering a quiet environment and certain amenities while also highlighting some areas that potential visitors should be aware of.
The environment of Hemlock Hideaway Campground appears to be one of its key draws for those seeking a tranquil retreat. One reviewer who stayed with an extended family noted that it was "very quiet" during their mid-week stay, suggesting a peaceful atmosphere, at least in certain areas of the park and during less peak times. For local users prioritizing a serene "camping near me" experience where they can relax and enjoy the quiet of nature, Hemlock Hideaway Campground might offer that desired ambiance. The address, "Seclusion Ln," further hints at a more private and less crowded setting.
Hemlock Hideaway Campground offers a variety of accommodation options, catering to different preferences. The review mentions that the extended family rented "8 cabins and an RV," indicating the availability of both cabin rentals and RV sites. This versatility is a significant feature for local users who may have different camping needs or who are traveling with a group that prefers a mix of accommodation types. The presence of RV sites suggests that essential hookups are likely available, though the specifics (e.g., electrical amperage, water, sewer) are not detailed in the provided reviews.
In terms of services and features, Hemlock Hideaway Campground offers several amenities that can enhance a stay. The review mentions a "pool at the camp store," suggesting a convenient place for campers to cool off and enjoy some recreation. Additionally, the presence of a "horse shoe pit and volley ball" area indicates opportunities for outdoor games and activities, particularly appealing to families and groups looking for on-site entertainment. Another notable feature is "a nice place to keep boats in a sheltered shed," which is a significant advantage for local users who plan to bring or rent boats to enjoy nearby waterways (though the proximity to a specific lake or river is not mentioned). This boat storage facility adds a unique value proposition for water sports enthusiasts.
However, the reviews also bring to light some important considerations for potential visitors. One reviewer, who delivers sheds and thus has a keen eye for structural integrity, observed that "A number of the cabins have been there for quite a while and need to be re-leveled... and have siding repaired." This suggests that some of the cabin accommodations may be showing signs of age and require maintenance. While this might not affect all cabins, it's something to be aware of when considering this type of lodging.
Furthermore, the terrain of the campground is described as being "on the side of a pretty steep hill," which has resulted in "gravel roads hav quite some ruts washed into them." This could pose a challenge for some vehicles, as the reviewer noted that their "brother-in-law's full-size van with skirting was almost dragging on a lot of the driveways." This information is crucial for local users planning to visit, as it suggests that caution might be needed when navigating the campground roads, especially for vehicles with low clearance.
It's also important to acknowledge a negative customer service experience reported by a visitor who stopped by for ice cream. While this interaction didn't involve an overnight stay, it does raise a concern about the consistency of customer service at the campground. The reviewer detailed an "horrible" experience with an unfriendly staff member at the ice cream window, which left a "bad taste" in their mouth. While this might be an isolated incident, it's a point to consider, especially for those who value friendly and welcoming service.
Based on the available information and customer reviews, Hemlock Hideaway Campground offers a mixed bag for local users seeking "camping near me." Its key features and potential benefits include:
- Quiet Atmosphere: Particularly during off-peak times or in certain areas of the campground.
- Variety of Accommodation: Offering both cabin rentals and RV sites.
- Recreational Amenities: Including a pool, horseshoe pit, and volleyball area.
- Boat Storage: A sheltered shed for keeping boats, appealing to water enthusiasts.
However, potential visitors should also be aware of the following considerations:
- Potential Cabin Maintenance Issues: Some cabins may require re-leveling and siding repair.
- Challenging Road Conditions: Steep hills and rutted gravel roads may make navigation difficult for some vehicles.
- Inconsistent Customer Service: At least one negative experience was reported regarding staff unfriendliness.
As there is no explicit promotional information in the provided reviews, the campground's primary appeal to local users would likely be its quiet environment, the availability of both cabins and RV sites, and the presence of amenities like a pool and boat storage. To attract more local campers, Hemlock Hideaway Campground could consider addressing the maintenance issues with the cabins and improving the condition of the roads. Highlighting the peaceful setting and the unique boat storage facility in local advertising might also be beneficial.
For local users considering Hemlock Hideaway Campground for their next "camping near me" trip, it is recommended to:
- Contact the campground directly at (814) 658-3663 or +1 814-658-3663 to inquire about the specific types of cabins and RV sites available, the condition of the cabins, and the accessibility of the roads for your vehicle.
- Ask about the amenities in more detail, such as the hours of the pool, the availability of equipment for the games, and any rules regarding boat storage.
- Inquire about recent improvements or maintenance that might have been done to address the issues mentioned in the reviews.
- Consider the time of year and day of the week for your visit if a quiet atmosphere is a top priority, as the level of quiet might vary depending on occupancy.
- Be prepared for potential challenges with road conditions if you have a vehicle with low clearance.
In conclusion, Hemlock Hideaway Campground offers a potentially quiet and secluded "camping near me" experience in James Creek, PA, with the added benefits of cabin and RV accommodations, a pool, recreational games, and boat storage. However, local users should also be aware of the reported maintenance needs of some cabins and the potentially challenging road conditions within the campground. By contacting the campground directly for more detailed information and considering these factors, local campers can make an informed decision about whether Hemlock Hideaway Campground is the right fit for their next getaway.

Hemlock Hideaway Campground Reviews
My daughters and I came here to get ice cream on 07/06. We were told it was really good and we had to try it. Honestly I’ll say that the service that we received from start to finish from the young bleach blonde girl was horrible. She obviously either doesn’t like her job or maybe it’s something deeper but she was very unfriendly. We ordered our ice cream and I took one bite of it and couldn’t eat anymore. I really think it was the way we were treated that left a bad taste in my mouth but we will not be going back. Customer service is HUGE and that is what has people coming back to spend their hard earned money on overpriced ice cream. Please train your staff to be kind even if they are having a bad day or keep them out of the window.
Jul 11, 2024 · SHANNON BWe stayed as an extended family and had 8 cabins and and RV rented. We got there Sunday afternoon and stayed until Wednesday morning. It was very quiet as there were very few other campers (in our area of the park at least). Our teenagers enjoyed the horse shoe pit and volley ball one evening. The pool at the camp store was nice. There is a nice place to keep boats in a sheltered shed while staying here.A number of the cabins have been there for quite a while and need to be re-leveled (I deliver sheds and noticed this first thing!) and have siding repaired. The camp sits on the side of a pretty steep hill, and the gravel roads have quite some ruts washed into them. My brother-in-law's full-size van with skirting was almost dragging on a lot of the driveways.
Aug 01, 2023 · Calvin ShirkThe cabins were clean and very nice for what you pay. The boat parking area helps when you want to go out and visit the local State Forest. Mini-golf at the campground was well built and entertaining even for adults. We didn't get a chance to try the pool, but it looked clean. Campground staff were very helpful and kind. This campground is about 5 minutes away from the marina/public beach which is perfect. We will return for sure.
Sep 15, 2018 · C WilliamsI will not be back. The Pros: Quiet, friendly staff, close to the lake and very nice camp store. The Cons: Nothing is level except the pads the campers sit on. Beware the sections along the main road. The owners allow boaters to park trailers along the roadway and it makes it difficult to navigate with a large combination in an already challenging roadway. Turning around is very challenging because it is on a hill and the owners did not make much room to maneuver. The camp store seem to be only open on the weekend when we were there. I do not know when it is open during the week. The store hours are not posted on the door. There is almost no cell service. The Wi-Fi worked fine close to the camp store only. On the weekend when the campground was full it dropped often.
Sep 04, 2020 · David Speicher SrWent for my 40th birthday weekend. Had a Blast on the lake and when we were at the campground staff was extremely friendly and prices were perfect for the stay. Can't wait too return.
