Shady Maple Campground Introduce
For local residents exploring 'camping near me' options, Shady Maple Campground, located at 18236 Shady Maple Rd, Broad Top City, Pennsylvania (16621, USA), presents a camping environment characterized by its shaded grounds and proximity to Raystown Lake. Based on available customer reviews, this campground offers a tranquil setting for those seeking a quieter camping experience, although it's important for potential visitors to be aware of its limited amenities and reported changes in management approach.
One of the frequently mentioned positive aspects of Shady Maple Campground is its environment. The campground is described as "mostly shaded," which is a significant advantage, particularly during the warmer months, providing welcome relief from the sun and creating a more comfortable outdoor living space. The presence of numerous trees contributes to this shaded environment, enhancing the natural beauty of the campground and offering a cooler atmosphere for campers to enjoy.
Another consistently highlighted feature is the friendly nature of the fellow campers. The sense of community among those who stay at Shady Maple seems to be a strong positive attribute, with neighbors described as "very friendly." This can contribute significantly to a pleasant and welcoming camping experience, fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect among guests.
The location of Shady Maple Campground is also noteworthy for those interested in exploring the popular Raystown Lake area. Situated "only a few miles to Raystown," the campground offers convenient access to the lake and its associated recreational opportunities, such as boating, fishing, and swimming. This proximity makes it a potentially attractive basecamp for local residents planning to spend time enjoying the lake while still preferring a quieter camping setting away from more bustling lakeside campgrounds.
However, it's crucial for prospective local campers to be aware of the amenities, or lack thereof, at Shady Maple Campground. According to one detailed review from a family with a long history at the site, the campground is described as lacking several common amenities found at other camping locations. Specifically, it is mentioned that there is "no pool or rec room," which might be a consideration for families with children or those seeking on-site entertainment options.
Furthermore, the review points out the absence of "paved roads, WIFI, cable TV service, pool, game room or general store." For campers who rely on these conveniences, Shady Maple Campground may not meet their needs. The lack of Wi-Fi and cable TV might be a drawback for those who wish to stay connected or have access to entertainment during their stay. The absence of a general store means that campers will need to ensure they bring all necessary supplies with them.
For boating enthusiasts planning to take advantage of the nearby Raystown Lake, it's important to note that Shady Maple Campground does not offer "under roof boat storage area." This might require boat owners to make alternative arrangements for storing their boats when not in use.
Tent campers should also be aware of the condition of the facilities. The review describes the "bath house and laundry" as "outdated" and "not clean and well kept." This is a significant consideration for those who rely on these facilities for hygiene and convenience during their camping trips. Compared to other campgrounds, Shady Maple is characterized as "a place for your camper but lacks a lot of amenities that other sites provide," particularly for tent campers.
Another point of concern raised in the review pertains to the management of the campground. It is mentioned that following the passing of the previous owner, the new management (his sons) are perceived as "significantly less than welcoming," creating a "toxic environment" that reportedly led some long-term campers to leave. While this is a subjective account, it is an important piece of feedback for local users to consider alongside the positive comments about the shaded environment and friendly neighbors.
For families with young children or grandchildren, the playground is described as "tiny" and "not well kept," with some equipment potentially being unsafe. This suggests that the playground facilities may not be a significant attraction or a reliable source of entertainment for young children.
Promotional information is not provided in the reviews. Local users interested in staying at Shady Maple Campground would need to contact them directly using the provided phone numbers, (814) 448-9000 or +1 814-448-9000, to inquire about site availability, pricing, reservation policies, and any potential seasonal rates or special offers. It would also be prudent to ask about the current state of the facilities and the management approach to get a more up-to-date perspective.
In conclusion, Shady Maple Campground in Broad Top City, PA, offers a mostly shaded and peaceful camping environment with a friendly community of fellow campers and convenient access to Raystown Lake. However, it is characterized by a lack of many common campground amenities, including a pool, rec room, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a well-maintained playground. Tent campers should be aware of the reported condition of the bathhouse and laundry facilities. Additionally, potential visitors should consider the feedback regarding the current management. For local users seeking a quiet, no-frills camping experience primarily focused on enjoying the natural surroundings and the proximity to Raystown Lake, Shady Maple Campground might be a suitable option, provided they are prepared for the limited amenities and inquire about the current management situation. Contacting the campground directly is recommended to obtain the most current information and make an informed decision.

Shady Maple Campground Reviews
I have my camper here and we love it so far! The campground is mostly shaded and all our neighbors are very friendly. There is no pool or rec room but if you just want peace and quiet this is a great place and only a few miles to raystown.😁🏞
Jul 07, 2022 · Angela WieczorekMy family had a camp at Shady Maple for just shy of 50 years. You will find the fellow campers friendly. The numerous trees provide welcome relief from the mid-day sun. Many great memories were made there, but time changes things. After the tragic passing of their father the boys now manage the camp, and you will find them significantly less than welcoming. This toxic environment caused many of my family members to leave and buy their own camps at other sites or stop going to the lake altogether. A few of us stuck it out till the end. If you are looking for a site to park your camper at Shady Maple here are some things to consider. If you have young children or grandchildren, there is a tiny playground that is not well kept and some equipment is not safe. There are no paved roads, WIFI, cable TV service, pool, game room or general store. For the boaters there is no under roof boat storage area. If you are a tent camper the bath house and laundry are outdated and are not clean and well kept. Compared to other sites, Shady Maple is a place for your camper but lacks a lot of amenities that other sites provide. Happy camping wherever you land.
