One enthusiastic reviewer proclaims Hidden Acres as the "Best Campground in CT!" They highlight the campground's natural beauty and its unique setting tucked away from the road, creating an authentic "camping in the woods" feel. This is in stark contrast to campgrounds that are heavily cleared, lacking trees and offering cramped campsites. Hidden Acres boasts a variety of site types to cater to different preferences, including sites directly on the river with "gorgeous views," sites in grassy fields, and those nestled within the woods. Importantly, the reviewer notes that the sites range from "big to bigger," providing ample space and privacy for campers.
The cleanliness of the facilities at Hidden Acres is consistently praised, with the reviewer stating they are kept "spotless." This attention to hygiene is a significant factor for many campers when choosing a location. Furthermore, Hidden Acres offers a wide array of activities, ensuring that there is "a lot to do" for campers of all ages. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, the natural beauty of the surroundings provides ample opportunity to unwind and "take in what nature has to offer."
The staff at Hidden Acres are described as "very friendly," and their dedication to maintaining the campground is evident, as they are "constantly making sure everything is in tip top shape." This commitment to guest satisfaction and campground upkeep contributes significantly to the positive camping experience. A notable feature is the on-site dining option, where campers can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner if they prefer not to cook themselves. The reviewer attests to the deliciousness of the food, adding another layer of convenience and enjoyment to the stay. The reviewer concludes by strongly recommending a visit, suggesting that it's a place where you'll "find yourself going back again and again!"
Another satisfied camper echoes the sentiment of a "really well operated campground," emphasizing that "the staff really cares about you and your stay" and goes "above and beyond" to ensure comfort and that all needs are met. This level of attentive service can make a significant difference in the overall camping experience. The reviewer shares a positive anecdote about a necessary tree work near their site, where the staff generously compensated them with complimentary amenities from the store, highlighting their commitment to customer satisfaction even during minor inconveniences.
The cleanliness of the grounds is again mentioned as a key positive aspect, and the campground offers a "wide selection of activities," catering to diverse interests. The Front Desk associates are consistently described as "kind and welcoming," setting a positive tone from the moment of arrival. The location is lauded as "perfect for a relaxing and restoring getaway," underscoring the peaceful and rejuvenating atmosphere of Hidden Acres.
One practical piece of information shared by this reviewer is that electric and sewage sites are limited and tend to book out quickly. This is an important consideration for RV campers planning a visit. Additionally, the booking process is described as "analog" and done on paper, meaning online booking is not currently available. However, the reviewer notes that the staff is "pretty good about answering their phone," suggesting that reservations can be made by calling the provided numbers.
Finally, this reviewer offers a valuable tip for those planning a stay: "highly recommend making sure you have adequate bug spray!" They attribute this to the campground's beautiful riverside location, acknowledging that being near the water can attract insects. Despite this minor consideration, the reviewer is confident that visitors will "enjoy your time" at Hidden Acres.
Considering the environment of Hidden Acres Family Campground, its off-the-road location and the presence of mature trees create a genuine "camping in the woods" experience, a significant draw for those seeking natural immersion. The variety of campsite settings, including riverfront, grassy fields, and wooded areas, allows campers to choose the environment that best suits their preferences. The Juniata River frontage not only provides scenic views but also potential opportunities for water-related activities (though not explicitly detailed in the reviews). The emphasis on beauty and shade further enhances the appeal of the natural surroundings.
The services offered at Hidden Acres appear comprehensive. The availability of on-site dining for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is a standout feature, providing a convenient alternative to cooking. The spotless facilities indicate well-maintained restrooms and potentially showers (though not explicitly mentioned). The friendly and attentive staff, who are proactive in ensuring guest comfort, contribute significantly to the overall service quality. The provision of a camp store (implied by the complimentary amenities offered) suggests that basic camping supplies and perhaps snacks might be available.
The features of Hidden Acres Family Campground are numerous and appealing. The diverse campsite options (riverfront, field, woods), the spacious sites, the cleanliness of the facilities, the wide range of activities, the friendly and caring staff, and the on-site dining all contribute to a well-rounded camping experience. The secluded yet accessible location offers a peaceful retreat without being too remote. The availability of fire pits (common in campgrounds, though not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews) is also a likely feature that would enhance the traditional camping feel.
From a promotional perspective for local users searching for "camping near me," Hidden Acres Family Campground offers a compelling package. The consistent praise for its beauty, cleanliness, friendly staff, and diverse activities makes it a highly attractive option. The variety of campsite environments ensures that different preferences can be accommodated. The on-site dining adds a level of convenience not always found at campgrounds. The positive testimonials from repeat visitors speak volumes about the quality of the experience. While the analog booking system and the potential for bugs near the river are mentioned, these seem to be minor considerations compared to the overall positive attributes of Hidden Acres.
For local families and individuals in Connecticut looking for a top-tier camping destination, Hidden Acres Family Campground in Preston appears to be an excellent choice. Its commitment to maintaining a beautiful environment, providing clean facilities, offering a range of activities, and ensuring guest satisfaction through a friendly and attentive staff makes it stand out within the "camping near me" category. While booking in advance, especially for electric and sewage sites, is recommended, and bringing bug spray is advised, the overwhelmingly positive reviews suggest that a stay at Hidden Acres will be a memorable and enjoyable experience, likely leading to repeat visits.

Hidden Acres Family Campground Reviews
Best Campground in CT! The campground is beautiful. It's set in off the road, and they keep it so you so you actually feel like you're camping in the woods! Not like those campgrounds that are all cleared out ( no trees, sites so small you feel like you're on top of the sites next to you). There's sites that are on the river, that have gorgeous views. They have sites that are in grass covered fields. And then the sites that are in the woods. The sites range from big to bigger! All the facilities are kept spotless. There's a lot to do with all the activities they offer. Or you can just relax and take in what nature has to offer. The staff is very friendly, and you can see them constantly making sure everything is in tip top shape. They have a place where you can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner,if you don't feel like cooking yourself. Everything I tried was delicious! If you haven't been there yet, you should definitely go. You'll find yourself going back again and again!
Dec 16, 2024 · Andy BrodesserThis is a really well operated campground; the staff really cares about you and your stay and will go above and beyond to make sure that you are comfortable and that you have everything you need. They needed to do some tree work adjacent to our site during our stay this year and more than well made up for it by offering us complementary amenities from the store, which was very kind and though not even necessary, quite generous. The grounds are clean and they offer a wide selection of activities. The Front Desk associates have always been so kind and welcoming. The location is so perfect for a relaxing and restoring getaway. They don’t have too many electric and sewage sites so they book out fast! Booking is also done in an analog fashion on paper, not being able to book online is a little tricky, but they’re pretty good about answering their phone! You won’t regret your stay here. But I highly recommend making sure you have adequate bug spray! Being on the river is absolutely beautiful, but comes with bugs! Regardless, we are sure you’ll enjoy your time.
Jul 18, 2024 · Sophia LilyMy family brought our 5th wheel camper here for the first time and they were absolutely wonderful! They have a beautiful property with a gorgeous view of the river. My kids loved taking walks, riding their bikes, swimming in the pool, and playing at the playground. They offer activities on weekends like hay rides and dances which were also a blast, one weekend they even had a little petting zoo! 10/10 will definitely be going back here! Such a family friendly environment with loads of awesome people!
Jul 04, 2024 · Morgan JohnsonNice campground with friendly people. Mostly seasonal campers here but very welcoming. We've been to many campgrounds that made you feel like they were doing you a favor for letting you stay at their property. Gotta say the owner/owners here are some of the nicest people you could meet. Just a nice place to be.
Sep 05, 2024 · Ralph SommerVisited for Columbus Day weekend. Had a beautiful site on the river! Everyone was so friendly. I was a little disappointed at the lack of activities for a holiday weekend. I also found the campground to be a little outdated.
