Hidden Lake Campground & Resort Introduce
Seeking a "camping near me" destination that offers a blend of natural seclusion and access to outdoor activities? Hidden Lake Campground & Resort, located at 1481 Belltown Rd, Tellico Plains, TN 37385, USA, might be the place for you. Situated in the scenic region of Tellico Plains, Tennessee, this campground aims to provide a tranquil escape for those looking to reconnect with nature.
To help you make an informed decision about your next camping adventure, we've gathered information, including real customer reviews, to provide an objective overview of what Hidden Lake Campground & Resort has to offer.
The Environment: Secluded and Natural
As the name suggests, Hidden Lake Campground & Resort is described by one reviewer as "definitely hidden.. tucked away but close enough." This suggests a sense of seclusion and privacy, potentially offering a respite from more crowded campgrounds. The journey to the campground might involve navigating some less-developed roads, as one review notes, "On the trip in depending on the direction of travel you might question your decision on staying here. But don’t worry and don’t judge the destination by some of the properties." This implies that the campground itself might offer a different experience than the immediate surrounding area.
The location in Tellico Plains places Hidden Lake Campground & Resort within reasonable proximity to the Cherokee National Forest, a vast expanse of natural beauty offering opportunities for hiking, scenic drives, and exploring the rich Appalachian landscape. The presence of a lake (though its condition is a point of contention in reviews) and a river near the campsite suggests potential for water-based activities like fishing.
Services and Features: Simplicity and Potential Shortcomings
One positive aspect highlighted in a review is the kindness and friendliness of the owners, along with a simple and trustworthy check-in process. This suggests a personalized and welcoming approach to hospitality. The availability of a campsite "away from just about everyone" is also noted as a significant positive for those seeking peace and quiet.
However, other reviews present a contrasting perspective on the services and features. One reviewer describes the "lake" as "more of a scummy algae pond," which is a significant point to consider if lake access and quality are important to your camping experience. Concerns are also raised about the shower rooms, with complaints about "horrible heat" and a lack of warm water. These comments suggest potential issues with the campground's facilities.
Furthermore, one reviewer recounts a negative experience with the owner's assistant regarding campsite placement and subsequent contradictory instructions from the owner. This raises concerns about communication and organization within the campground management. The same review also mentions the lack of cell phone service and non-functional WiFi, which could be important factors for campers who need to stay connected.
Activities and Local Attractions
Despite some of the concerns raised, Hidden Lake Campground & Resort's location offers access to local attractions. One reviewer mentioned spending time fishing in the river and the lake directly in front of the campsite, indicating opportunities for angling. The nearby town of Tellico Plains offers options for dining out. Additionally, the Lost Sea, a unique underground lake attraction, is within driving distance for a day trip.
The proximity to the Cherokee National Forest opens up a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, and exploring scenic byways. While the immediate amenities of the campground might have limitations according to some reviews, the surrounding natural environment offers numerous possibilities for outdoor adventures.

Considering the Reviews: A Balanced Perspective
The customer reviews for Hidden Lake Campground & Resort present a mixed picture. On one hand, the owners are described as kind and friendly, and the secluded campsites are appreciated by those seeking tranquility. The location offers potential for fishing and access to regional attractions like the Lost Sea and the Cherokee National Forest.
On the other hand, significant concerns are raised regarding the condition of the lake, the quality of the shower facilities, issues with campsite management, and the lack of essential connectivity like cell service and reliable WiFi. One reviewer expressed strong dissatisfaction with their experience, particularly as a veteran.
Conclusion for Local Users Seeking "Camping Near Me"
Hidden Lake Campground & Resort offers a potentially secluded "camping near me" experience in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, with access to natural surroundings and local attractions. However, it is crucial for prospective campers to carefully consider the feedback provided in the customer reviews. The discrepancies in experiences suggest that while some guests have enjoyed the peace and quiet and the hospitality of the owners, others have encountered significant issues with the facilities and management.
If you prioritize a quiet and secluded campsite and are primarily interested in exploring the surrounding natural areas and local attractions, Hidden Lake Campground & Resort might be an option worth considering. However, it would be prudent to contact the owners directly to inquire about the current condition of the lake and the shower facilities, as well as to clarify any concerns regarding campsite management and connectivity. Weighing the positive aspects of seclusion and friendly owners against the potential drawbacks highlighted in the negative reviews will be essential in making an informed decision about whether Hidden Lake Campground & Resort aligns with your expectations for a "camping near me" getaway.

Hidden Lake Campground & Resort Reviews
Definitely hidden.. tucked away but close enough. On the trip in depending on the direction of travel you might question your decision on staying here. But don’t worry and don’t judge the destination by some of the properties. The owners were extremely kind and friendly. I enjoyed the simplicity and trustworthiness in the check-in process. Our sight was away from just about everyone, which was great. We spent 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Took some time to eat out in Tellico and visited the Lost Sea on a rainy day, as well as plenty of time fishing the river and the lake directly in front of the campsite.Highly recommended if you are looking for some peace and quiet.
Apr 27, 2025 · Dan HinstThe "lake" is more of a scummy algae pond. The shower rooms have horrible heat and the water itself is not warm either. The owners assistant will accost you while pulling in and have you move your camper 15 ways before he says it's ok. The owner will then come and tell you it needs to be moved. If you need to reach anyone good luck because the owner only comes around to complain. No cell phone service there and the "wifi" doesn't work either. For the price and how uppity the "resort is" I would expect more. I would avoid this place and find a real campground. I'm a veteran and I've never been treated so poorly in my life by any campground.
Apr 05, 2025 · Jessica HaThe lake area is lovely in the fall. No camp store. Owner was never seen. Had to call him to get instructions about the shower issue mentioned below. The Bath house needs rubber mats inside the stalls. My son slipped and fell while showering. Thank God nothing broke. He put down an extra towel the next time to keep from slipping again. You need signs in each stall with instructions on how to turn the water handle to get hot water and balance the temperature. My son took a cold shower the first morning. Then we called for instruction. Could have simply put up a sign inside the stall to tell folks. Not as big a campground as expected. The folks camping next to us on right side of Site 5, partied until about 1:30 am. We could hear them talking outside our bedroom window while trying to sleep. The fire pit is awkwardly placed and too close to the gravel road. This is a very hilly area with mostly gravel road. Not much grass area for the dogs at the site. The rest of the area is pretty nice, but we most likely won’t stay again.
Nov 02, 2024 · Londa HaydenAwesome campground full of great people. Everyone looks out for each other! Bath house and laundry are super clean. Very pet and kid friendly. There is very strong WiFi at the bathhouse, and it extends out pretty far (bring a network extender and you’ll be good).
Aug 11, 2024 · Rowan EdmondsHead out to hidden lake campground any time we get the chance! We were married right at the end of one of the docks in 2020. Our kids, pets and whole family enjoy the peaceful setting. The lake is great for fishing or jumping in to cool off. Jerry is always friendly and willing to help you in any way he can! Highly recommend reserving yourself a cabin or a tent space!
